His dad must made a fuckin' awesome kart!! How about if we live in the Here-And-Now? In the here and now - a great car in the hands of a less than great driver is a mid pack runner. In today's here and now, LuLu and Max are great drivers compared to the rest of the field. It takes a great driver to demonstrate that they are driving a great car. For whatever the reasons (and they are multitude) the differences between great and mid-pack are closer this year than they have ever been in the history of F1.

The here-and-now is that he is a seven time WDC in the pinnacle series of car racing. Anything else is just noise.

But the rest of the field drive slower cars so who's to say, I think Norris, Gasly, Russel and Fred would all be in the mix in a Merc or RB, and I wouldn't bet against LeClerc or Sainz either. So that's at least 6 other drivers that could hang with those two.

But sure, I do not doubt that the ones you named are basically the top ten drivers in the world (I could quibble about Gasly and I would include Vettel, but I get it...). That is a far different argument than saying that Lewis (or Max) would get beaten badly in a spec car.

If there were an IROC type of series for open wheel cars, I predict that LuLu would suck. Mainly because he drives the best car in F1, but yet whines and cries like a little baby if everything isn't perfect.
Since he wouldn't have the huge advantage he enjoys now, he would suck.

And they sponsored him because he sucked? That's a lot of money to sink into someone who sucks at what they do.

McLaren sponsored many young kart racers at the time but they tried something different with Lewis. He was given the best of everything all the time, including the setup engineering of his kart. Throughout his entire career Lewis has never won jack with average equipment. Put him in an average car and he becomes average. The same goes for every F1 driver ever 99.9% of the time. The car and the engineering behind are everything.

As did alonso. Ya had to go to the count back to say that lulu beat Alonso. Then there's this. At the race in maybe Japan that year lulu gets on the mic to the pits and asks ronzo, who are we racing, as the race was confused with a lot of rain. Ronzo tells lulu your not racing kimi, your racing Alonso. This is all from memory so ya can google it and ya will prolly find that I got most of it right

Yeah, he was 13, i remember he was on the cover of Autoweek back then and it wasn't THAT unusual. McLaren had been doing that kind of thing for a while, they got the idea after linking up with the Autosport BRDC Award (now sponsored by Aston Martin) to give the winning driver an F1 test. Lulu walked up to Ronzo one day and said he'd drive for him one day, Dennis though it was cheeky and gave him a small contract.

And if he would have sucked then he wouldn't have gotten anything. Again, if the drivers matter so little then they'd be paid $50k/yr. Bottas is a damn good driver, better by far than anyone on this board, and he cannot achieve it. The last 0.1% is pretty important.

This is all from memory so ya can google it and ya will prolly find that I got most of it right It was China and the race started on a wet track with most drivers taking inters. Lulu was ahead in the championship and started from pole, he wore his tires out trying to stay ahead of the faster kimi on a drying track. After he slid wide at the hairpin and let the Ferrari through Ronzo kept him out to make sure he would beat Fred (to prove a point) but Hamilton's tires where cooked. He beached the car in the pit entrance and lost the WDC right there, i always blamed McLaren for that because lulu was a rookie and should have never been put in that position, he basically did the same thing Coulthard did in OZ back in the 90's.

Did you even read the article? If Lewis didn't produce with the equipment he was given he would potentially still be racing karts for fun. Incredible grasp of the obvious. Did you even read the article? The point is you could have given may young kart racers the same treatment and they also would have won championships because they had the best equipment. 99.9% of the time championships are won by the racers with the best equipment.

He sucks. I think Bottas will go to another series rather than run Haas or some other last place Team, he can see what's happening to Kimi and Vettel and neither is doing much more than saying they are still driving in F1. Sure Vettel is near or just in the points in some races but right now even Stroll is better than him in the same car, YES it's Vettel's first year and YES everyone hopes he does better but....
