doesn"t mean a lot? It means a boat load. Especially the part where's 3/10ths faster then his team mate. OGR it's not meaningless, but I suspect Russell is trying a lot harder than Bottas is. Q1 is drivers sorting their cars out. Its not meaningless but speeds pick up in later sessions. It looks like Bottas is trying too hard and overdriving the car but we shall see where they end up.

Doesn't look 'right' without HAM near the top of the scoreboard.

Russell is screwing himself. Mercedes has no interest in having 2 competitive drivers. Yeah, but someone with a GOOD car is going to want a competitive driver. So Russell is ensuring himself a future drive with a top team. I think he's more likely ensuring his place at Mercedes should Lewis retire or any contract negotitatations with Bottas hit some serious snags.

OGR it's not meaningless, but I suspect Russell is trying a lot harder than Bottas is. I’m sorry to disagree with you Wilmy. But I think Bottas is going 10/10th out there. Trying his hardest. He knows what’s at stake. He knows if Russell shows him up the embarrassment is huge and the clamor for Russell to replace him will be deafening. P2, 39 minutes to go. Russell is back on top. Bottax is 6/10ths down. Make no mistake. Bottax is driving for his reputation if not his F1 life.

I promise you this, if Botax didn't have a contract for next year, Mercedes would be snapping up Russell with no second thoughts. Yeah, Hamilton has accomplished everything they ever wanted for them, BUT, he ain't gonna live forever. Always plan for the future.

Russell is prolly gonna have the fastest time in P2 as they're now doing long runs. the squawk group were saying if ya add up individual sector times Bottax is faster.

FP2 - Russell - P1 It's the car. makes me wonder if he had enough time to wrap his head around the whole movable steering wheel thing.

Wait just a minute. Didn't the popular opinion used to be that Mercedes would be leaving the sport? Wasn't the sale to Ineos imminent? Isn't Toto taking his money to Kansas or Racing Point or something?

FP2 - Russell - P1 It's the car. Bottas p12 Its the car If you followed the practice Bottas had his fastest time deleted. Would have been P2-ish with a valid time. And weren't you the one saying all this "craftsmen" drive stuff? Craftsmen my ass. That car just needs a competent driver.

I have been calling Bottas a doormat for the past 2 years.

Finally got to watch Practice 2. Bottas really looked like he was having a hard time coming to grips with the car/tire/track. He blew the track limits at T8 over and over. I doubt he is a very happy man at the moment.
I am surprised at how large the rear wings are on the cars. I figured we would have Monza paper-thin, but they actually had some thickness to them. Am I just screwed up? That's a definite possibility :-) The only reason I could think that they might do so would be the higher-speed chicanes (versus those at Monza).
The track is pretty boring but the race might be spicy!

Bottas got busted for limits 6 times, Russell 3 times. Some people would say he was just finding the cars' limits. Usually short track racing puts a premium on passing because there's always traffic. Might be the place that the setups are being looked at.

The way i see it Russell will only get faster, Bottas has been with the team going on for years and we're seeing ALL that's there. Going forward lulu isn't gonna last forever, Bottas has already hit the wall and Russell has more growth potential than either.
If Merc is serious about hanging around dump Bottas, give lulu an extension on his current deal (with generous performance clauses) and sign Russell to a 2 year #2 contract, done.

They seem to think they're running the extra rear downforce to help with the lack of traction out of the turns but to me it looks like it's causing a lot of understeer problems in the new section.
