What’s Going on at Laguna Seca? County Responds.Racing will continue to go on this year at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, according to the County of Monterey. This word comes despite a lawsuit from the Highway 68 Coalition to stop motorsports events at the storied track. Who’s the Highway 68 Coalition? Per the legal complaint filed in December, they are “an unincorporated association of property owners living and owning property in the Highway 68 corridor of Monterey County.” They made the complaint against the County of Monterey and the Monterey County Board of Supervisors. The group also named the concessionaire at the track, Friends of Laguna Seca, as a “Real Party in Interest.” (Read that as, hey, you’re involved.) Boiling down the 17-page document, the Highway 68 Coalition contends the use of the public grounds for motorsports is unlawful. In fact, they state, “Motor vehicle racing and race car driving are neither allowed nor permitted uses,” citing zoning and permits dating back to the 1980s. grassrootsmotorsports.com/news/whats-going-on-at-laguna-seca-county-responds/?utm_content=buffer81da3&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=GRMFacebook&fbclid=IwAR0a1W7loOTKKYgraGILBL827zgpYgcmO2aUCe1IinfZx2tITygFJQL4kI8

Team forming around Larson's Indy 500 effortKyle Larson’s Indianapolis 500 debut is continuing to take shape with Arrow McLaren. The 2021 NASCAR Cup champion completed his latest test run with the Chevy-powered team on Monday at Phoenix International Raceway where the No. 17 McLaren-Hendrick entry was in action and turned 172 laps in the process on the 1.0-mile oval. “It was great to be able to test again,” Larson said after having his outing at PIR moved up by one day due to oncoming weather. “Kinda like The Clash this past weekend for NASCAR, I was not expecting to race then and I wasn’t expecting when I woke up yesterday that I was going to be running an Indy car, so I had to get my mind right to prepare myself for that. But overall, I was pleased to get to test in great conditions with weather yesterday.” Unlike his rookie test at the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Larson got a feel for the Dallara-Chevy on the shorter PIR oval without an excessive amount of downforce piled onto the car where he caught at least one slide. racer.com/2024/02/06/team-forming-around-larsons-indy-500-effort/?utm_source=RACER+%2F%2F+Newsletter&utm_campaign=cd6628d82d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2024_02_06_06_54&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-cd6628d82d-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D

IndyCar bans Newgarden's Indy 500 Turn 4 moveJosef Newgarden’s aggressive efforts to defend his lead exiting Turn 4 on the final lap of the 2023 Indianapolis 500 will not be allowed at future editions of ‘The Greatest Spectacle In Racing.’ As part of the NTT IndyCar Series officiating revisions for its biggest race, Newgarden’s hard turn to the left coming out of Turn 4 on lap 200, which saw the driver of the No. 2 Chevy dive at full speed into the lane used to slow and enter pit lane —with his pursuers following suit to try and maintain an aerodynamic draft on the sprint to the checkered flag — and late return to the front straight is off-limits when the next Indy 500 is held on May 26. Under the new guidelines, IndyCar will police against the defensive maneuver, which brought the eventual Indy 500 winner closer than desired to the attenuator that sits in front of the outer pit wall. New instructions will be given to all drivers to avoid racing inside a line that extends from the attenuator back to Turn 4. “We’re going to officiate that line,” IndyCar president Jay Frye told RACER. “So think of what Newgarden did when he went below that line going into pit-in. That would be illegal in ‘24. He certainly did nothing wrong in ’23, but this is what you do as a series when it comes to officiating. Things happen, and you have to react. “Something happened, and it was a little aggressive, which is the best way to put it. So we’re going to take that opportunity to be aggressive by going low towards the pits away when they’re coming out of Turn 4.” racer.com/2024/02/22/indycar-bans-newgardens-indy-500-turn-4-move/?utm_source=RACER+%2F%2F+Newsletter&utm_campaign=da2b75e4e7-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2024_02_22_07_32&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-da2b75e4e7-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D

^ I thought that was a very dangerous move when he did it. If it wouldn't have been the final lap, I think they should have brought him in for a stop-n-go.

With less than 1 week away, Dale Coyne Racing is yet to conform their line-up. These next 2 days, DCR will test out Jack Harvey and 35-year-old Sports Car veteran Colin Braun for their 2 car line up. Other drivers available are Katherine Legge, NXT driver Nolan Siegel and Benjamin Pedersen who may test out their machinery. It will be the final pre-season test before the season-opener at St. Pete. racer.com/2024/02/25/braun-harvey-drafted-in-to-test-with-dale-coyne-at-sebring/
