It looks like the McLaren deal will happen next year.
I hope they add a new car to the entry list, and not just become the fourth Andretti car, pushing someone else out.

I don't see any corporate benefits to McLaren in having to race the Spec Dellara chassis.
The last time McLaren, outside of Alonso's guest appearance, competed at Indy was with their own chassis.

Yeah, but they might actually be able to win some races here, and that's gotta be good for their image!

Robin Miller recently responded to an email of mine and the topic was network races on NBC next year. He referred to Gateway as the season finale and that hopefully it will be on NBC. If Gateway replaces Sonoma, that would be fantastic.

Part of the problem with all Professional level sports - take your pick - the participants at the top level rarely make STUNNING mistakes. The stunning mistakes are what make the sport REAL for Joe Fan, because it leaves him with the 'feeling' that he could do better than whoever made the mistake. The reality is the pros are so good that they make the diabolically difficult seem so easy anyone can do it.

These manufacturers (Chevy, Honda, Ford, Toyota) say they sell cars on Monday even with spec cars and engines that they don't build for street cars. s long as they keep paying up, I'm not going to argue. I don't understand it, but their business is selling cars so I'll go with it. They also like spec because they don't have to worry about a spending war with the other automakers, and they like having a level playing field. So I guess in that regard, Spec is better than BoP.

For Chevy, Honda I can understand participation in IndyCar - their names are associated with building the engines. McLaren doesn't build a mass market road car and thus doesn't need that wide ranging exposure that mass market manufactures require to sell their product. I don't know that much about McLaren finances. Does the company depend upon their F1 sponsorship or road car sales as the basis of their finances?
