I can't believe they use that type of barrier. Most tracks in the US have gotten rid of those a long time ago. Way too many deaths caused by them.

This is why we have the halo If is not for the halo, the outcome would have be catastrophic.

How the hell does that meet F1 standards? Or anyone else’s standards for that matter?

Doubt that that Haas will be screwed back together.

That section of the track is not a section where things like that typically happen. That was a freak accident in many ways. Typically cars in that part of the track would have side impacts, not straight in.

If not for the Halo, RoGro would have been decapitated. All those against it and the IndyCar version should now STFU forever.

Typically cars in that part of the track would have side impacts, not straight in. That is the fallacy that many apply to 'freak' accidents - that it was a freak happening; however, the facts are if it happened once it can happen again.

Armco is still the hallmark of Watkins Glen Yes, they use those Armco barriers at all the tracks I run. I'm surprised. The tracks I've been to in the last couple decades have replaced them. A lot of stories of those barriers coming through the cockpit. No matter, RoGro is one lucky guy today. When I saw it live I thought we were looking at a fatality. When I saw it in replay and him getting out of the car it was even worse. RoGro will be in highlight reels forever now.

The halo looked broken at the joint between the down leg and the hoop. That was HARD hit.

Reminds me of the old saying, “racing rule books are written in blood”.
