....leaving ticket holders and campers totally in the dark on this weekend's vintage car and Trans Am weekend.
Here is what I know:
1. Mid-Ohio issued update on June 12 telling race fans that they were working closely with the state on the Opening Responsibility plan. M-O said they were seeking to reopen without grandstand seating, which hardly anyone uses most of the weekend anyway.
2. On June 18, the president of the Trans Am series told Racer they were told they would be racing without spectators. However, he acknowledged M-O's above statement so the door was still open.
3. Today, a gal who I work with, who has season passes and camping permit for the camper area down in the esses, has not been informed, yet, if they can attend or not. They usually take their camper to Mid-Ohio on Thursday to get in the staging area and go in to set up.
So, if you have tix to an event this close to the actual date and you still haven't heard if it is happening yet? It better be happening because not everyone attending is local.
Green/Savoree, who own M-O and also run St. Pete's, Toronto, and Portland, haven't actually been willing to offer refunds to ticket holders to their races, in the event of cancellation or no spectators. So far, they are only willing to offer credits to races that have been rescheduled for this year or towards races next year. The credit option is not ideal for all of their tix holders, obviously. I have heard of some fans who are considering filing a class action lawsuit against Green/Savoree if they do not offer tix holders the option of a full refund. I think Ticketmaster ran afoul of the government, on their refund policy, for canceled or postponed concerts early in the spring. They originally were not going to refund postponed events, just canceled events. However, fans complained to their local congressman/women and Ticketmaster hand was forced to offer refunds to postponed events. However, if Ticketmaster is handling ticket distribution on behalf of a venue, say Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, the venue has to offer the refund option. For my Foo Fighters show in May, that was postponed to October, Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse did reach out to me and did offer me a refund, which I declined. I want to see the Foo Fighters goddammit! I think Green/Savoree will be forced into a similar situation that Tickemaster had to submit to, eventually.
The lack of info from M-O has been pretty pathetic. If Cedar Point can reopen, there is no real reason why M-O can't also.
