McLaren on the podium.........................I'm gonna' ban myself. Ban me too. It'd be funny if it wasn't true. Maybe Ferrari got the wrong McLaren driver for next year?

Why wasn't Hamilton given a drive through penalty? That was a pretty blatent and intentional infraction and considering the impact on Albons race the penalty was very light.

And again, he was pretty much turned in as far as he could go. There was still a car-width on the outside. It is not clear that he could have actually done anything different given that he held his turn from before the apex and before Albon was fully alongside. You can only turn so much and he left a car width.

Alfa Romeo handed €5,000 fine for Raikkonen wheel incidentHearts were in mouths at the penultimate Safety Car restart in Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix, as the front-right wheel of Kimi Raikkonen’s Alfa Romeo C39 fell off the car, bouncing down the track before coming to a stop – with the stewards later handing out a €5,000 fine to the team for failing to affix the wheel properly during Raikkonen's pit stop. The Finn had pitted under the Safety Car, brought out after the retirement of Williams’ George Russell, on Lap 51 of 71. But a cross-threaded wheel nut led to the wheel not being fitted correctly, meaning that when Raikkonen got back up to racing speed at the restart four laps later, the wheel parted company with the car. www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.watch-sparks-fly-as-raikkonen-loses-a-wheel-late-in-austrian-gp.Bb7FF7uci9HvwolR4bwG5.html

My point is that he was taking a line that started before the corner; it is not clear he could have changed his line part-way through to give any more room. His path was pretty constant entry through exit and left a car width on the outside. Look at his wheel; he was not unwinding it and if anything turning in even a bit more. Anyway, it is what it is. The rule says that when two cars overlapped they both must leave a car's width of track space for each other. Albon was at the very edge of the track leaving Lewis all the rest but Lewis continued to squeeze Albon off track and in doing so did not leave enough space. That is an automatic penalty.

Look closely at the video. Heck, not even that closely! When they touch Albon's front tires are likely still on the black, and his rears are perhaps barely on the red and white even AFTER he has started is spin with the rear. There was room, though not much. Unfortunately Albon's video seemed broken.

The stewards got it right. Ham could have lifted, he didn't.

Though I would add that Vitantonio Luzzi has a lot of experience being passed so I appreciate his insight.

The stewards got it right. Ham could have lifted, he didn't. Do stewards have the car data at that moment? That will really tell the tale. There was still room but the question is could Lewis have done something to avoid it. If they did it by video I would expect an appeal.

At that point Lewis' tires were already interlocked with Albon's. Albon could not have driven any wider to get around Lewis. Lewis didn't leave room, that is an automatic penalty.
