Latest "inside info" posting in the Corvette forum has Chevy pulling off a surprise C8 reveal at the NAIAS Detroit show on the opening day Jan. 14. Both a coupe and a convertible will pop out of the cake.

First, all GM products are shifting to a new electrical architecture—the means by which 100 or more computer modules per vehicle communicate on what’s called a CAN (computer area network) bus. Engineers are having difficulty working the bugs out of the new Global B party line serving Corvette and several other new models.

The second issue is a structural distortion of the aluminum spaceframe experienced during testing a prototype equipped with the 900-1000 horsepower twin-turbo V-8. The twist in back was enough to fracture the glass hatch covering the engine. Be glad this flaw was discovered in advance of your top speed runs in Chevy’s designated Ferrari-beater.

Had that happen to me once. The problem was intermittent and never set a code all the while driving everybody crazy. It stopped one time and refused to start so I had it towed to the dealer and unloaded. While I was talking to the service rep one of the dealers people got in it, started it, and drove it into the garage. Problem was finally traced to a loose ground wire connection on the main fuel pump. Funniest part was from the first stoppage I had told the dealer I may be an old fuck but this felt exactly like when the old mechanical fuel pumps used to fail. New cars are complex but they still need air, fuel,and spark to run. Did I ever mention I own a 2007 Vette?

The ground strap from chassis to battery goes bad, no start, no anything.

Gotcha, thought it might be one of those Barrett Jackson deals. A straight up raffle sounds pretty sweet.

But I understand the taxable angle. Like a low income game show contestant that wins a trip around the world 'worth' $25,000. All they won is a big tax bill.

Picture of rear fascia along with a rendering that I think was done earlier than the picture. The other rumor is the engine which is, at least in the base model, a 6.2 litre version of the normal V8 labeled the LT2. It's still a pushrod, with direct injection,variable valve timing, etc. with around 500 hp which is pretty similar to the base V8 in the C7's.
