Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto Built in 1986 and hosting its first Grand Prix one year later, the circuit of Jerez is now one of the most popular MotoGP venues and the focal point for a city fanatical about sport. Set in a slight valley in the south of Spain, Jerez is blessed with consistently good weather and beautiful scenery, its numerous grandstands providing the perfect viewing facilities for up to 250,000 spectators. With two alternative road circuits (4,423m and 4,428m), which were resurfaced during 2005, Jerez is a popular venue used by many race teams for testing throughout the year, whilst its recently updated corporate and media facilities have proven to be a popular addition to the complex. Other facilities such as the control tower and pit boxes have also been vastly improved.

2024 Rider Market: Confirmed signings and latest rumours Signed, sealed and delivered Let’s start with who has been signed, sealed and delivered for 2025. Brad Binder struck a new deal with KTM at the tail end of the 2023 season, which will see the South African remain until 2026 with the Austrian brand. Early in the 2024 season, Ducati tied down the services of defending World Champion Francesco Bagnaia until 2026, while they also secured the future of Moto2™ starlet Fermin Aldeguer. At Yamaha, 2021 World Champion Fabio Quartararo committed his future to the Iwata factory for a further two years as the Japanese brand continue their rebuilding project. Whilst Honda have both Luca Marini and Johann Zarco locked in until the end of the 2025 season. The rumour mill Ducati Most riders are out of contract come the end of the current campaign, and some are in direct duels for coveted factory seats. The biggest up for grabs is the right to partner Bagnaia in the factory Ducati team from 2025, with incumbent Enea Bastianini renewing rivalries with Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) for factory honours. Last year’s Championship runner-up has made his intentions clear more than once already this year, with the Spaniard demanding a factory seat, but whether that comes aboard a Desmosedici or elsewhere remains to be seen. Eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez is also in the mix, with the #93 on a single-year deal with Gresini Racing, but it is unknown what his preference will be as he continues to acclimatise to the GP23. For the likes of Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio, one feels the future of the VR46 team will need be resolved before they know on which bike they’ll be riding in 2025, while there is still little indication yet on where Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) and Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) will be next season. Aprilia One of the lingering questions at the Noale factory is whether Aleix Espargaro will opt to hang up his leathers at the end of the season. The 34-year-old is the grid’s elder statesman, but like a fine wine, has produced some vintage performances in his later years. The three-time race winner previously stated that the decision is in his hands. On the other side of the box, Maverick Viñales is out to secure a contract for 2025, but performances like the Americas GP should bolster his cause no end. At Trackhouse Racing, Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez’ futures are up in the air as they continue to help bed the American team into MotoGP™. KTM A factory seat alongside Binder for 2025 is up for grabs, and as things stand, it seems a straight shootout between Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) for a place alongside the South African. Augusto Fernandez’ future is also undecided at GASGAS Tech3. Yamaha Six-time race winner Alex Rins competes alongside Quartararo on the factory Yamaha team, having joined from Honda in the off-season. The Spaniard is on a one-year deal. The Iwata factory have been without an Independent team since 2022, and are on the hunt for new partners to help add two extra YZR-M1s to the grid in the future, with both VR46 and Pramac Racing linked. Honda Repsol Honda's Luca Marini and LCR’s Johann Zarco both signed contracts in 2023 that extend beyond the current season, both having joined from Ducati over the winter break. That leaves LCR's Takaaki Nakagami and Repsol Honda's Joan Mir seeking to resolve their futures over the coming months.

Viñales returns: "We have suffered a lot" ‘BatMav’ etched his name into the history books in Austin following an emotional return to the Sunday top step Pole position, Tissot Sprint win, race win. Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) manufactured the perfect weekend at the Americas GP and in doing so became the first rider in the MotoGP™ era to win on three different types of machinery. ‘BatMav’ has returned. And in some style too. “Never give up” Before we go any further, let’s hit reverse and back up to the 2021 Styrian GP for a moment. Viñales and Yamaha’s relationship ended abruptly at the Red Bull Ring in circumstances that no one could have predicted. That moment could have signalled the end of Viñales’ MotoGP™ career. Thankfully, it didn't. “Now, looking back to when I didn’t know what to do, you should never give up. In Austria, I didn’t know what to do.” Viñales has climbed back up the premier class ladder from rock bottom. With the help of Aprilia, his family and sheer grit to succeed again, the Spaniard has gone from being jobless and staring never winning again in the face to doing what every rider craves on a daily basis: winning. The perfect weekend The signs were there in Portimao. A debut Sprint win was richly deserved before a gearbox issue cost Viñales a chance of standing on the podium on Sunday at the Portuguese GP. Most wondered if that form would continue in the USA. It did. Earning pole position by 0.3s was a statement. Leading from lights out to chequered flag in the Sprint and winning by 2.2s was an even bigger gauntlet thrown down ahead of Sunday’s main event. Two Sprint victories in the first three races were excellent, but it’s the 25-point haul that riders and teams thirst for. And it’s not that Viñales backed up his weekend dominance with the most important weekend accolade on Sunday afternoon. It's how his historic win was clinched that left millions wide-eyed. Going from being P11 on Lap 1 to the win doesn’t happen often, but Viñales made passing multiple World Champions look like a walk in the park. Zero panic, zero mistakes. In the end, it was a comfortable, commanding victory that handed the 29-year-old the coveted honour of winning with three different manufacturers. Emotions flow But this win meant more than 25 points. Just under three years ago when the fallout unfolded at the Red Bull Ring, that achievement was lightyears away. That’s why, when speaking to Spanish broadcaster DAZN, Viñales couldn't hide his emotions. “I have no words... It has been very hard up to this point. We have suffered a lot,” said Viñales. “My family knows it well. All the effort I have put into this has been rewarded in the end, so I am very happy. Of course, I really want to hug my wife and my girls, who suffered with me. “In Austria I didn't know whether to stop, not run anymore, and now I'm at the top of everything. It only teaches me one thing: you don't have to give up, trust in yourself and keep growing,” continues Viñales, reiterating the point about experiencing such a low in 2021.

Pedrosa: "Acosta is surpassing expectations" The three-time World Champion heaped praise on the rookie sensation when they spoke on DAZN after the Americas GP The world is quickly running out of superlatives to portray Pedro Acosta. Two podium finishes in his first three races see the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 star sit P4 in the MotoGP™ Championship ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix – where he’ll be joined on track by Dani Pedrosa. For the second year running, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing test rider will take part in a wildcard at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Neito and following his classy performances in 2023, both in Jerez and Misano, expectations will be a little higher than they were last year for the MotoGP™ Legend. However, not as high as they are for his younger compatriot. What does Pedrosa think of Acosta's performances? Alongside his work as KTM’s test rider, Pedrosa often links up with Spanish broadcaster DAZN for some punditry work and after another exceptional performance at the Circuit of The Americas, the three-time World Champion assessed Acosta’s start to life as a MotoGP™ rider. "I would point out that there were a lot of expectations about Pedro, how well he could do, how strong he was coming from Moto2™, but he is surpassing even those expectations." What can Acosta and Pedrosa produce at the Spanish GP? After Sunday’s P2 finish, Pedrosa had the chance to chat with Acosta before joining the #31 on track in Jerez next time out. Both riders will receive a rapturous reception at their home GP, and expectations from the home faithful will be sky-high for the duo. "What a race, it was a spectacle to see that start of the race. It was a luxury to see you fighting for the victory and you should be very proud; in three races you've been on the podium twice. "I hope you give me a bit of a wheelie! It was going to be the other way around, you're learning, but with how fast you're going it's going to be my turn to follow you," commented Pedrosa. "I don't think that will happen," replied Acosta, who is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and ignoring the outside noise. "We still have a lot to learn, especially what I told you: we are taking Saturday's races to see how it will be on Sunday because yesterday's race helped us to see that with the soft tyre we couldn't make it." Acosta praises "spectacular" RC16 developed by Pedrosa The chat between the two stars continued, with Acosta heaping praise on Pedrosa and his work in helping guide the RC16 into a competitive MotoGP™ package. "You're giving us a bike that goes spectacularly, that hardly moves at all. Let's see if little by little I can tune it up too!" After a weekend off, excitement will quickly escalate ahead of the Spanish GP where the packed Jerez hillsides will be filled with the sound of fans cheering on numerous home heroes, but maybe two in particular: Pedrosa and Acosta.

2024 Jerez MotoGP FP1 Results: Marquez Brothers Lead The Aprilias By David Emmett | Fri, 26/Apr/2024 - 02:45 Alex Marquez has topped the timesheets in the first session of free practice for the MotoGP class at Jerez. The Gresini Ducati rider used a new soft rear tire to take half a second advantage over his brother and teammate Marc Marquez, who stuck with the same set of tires for the entire session, as did the majority of the grid.
The factory Aprilias followed in third and fourth Maverick Viñales ahead of Aleix Espargaro, both riders using a new medium rear tire to set their best time, while Franco Morbidelli ended the session in fifth. Dani Pedrosa was the best KTM rider in seventh, fractionally ahead of Brad Binder.
Pecco Bagnaia struggled at the start of the session, a clutch problem on his first bike necessitating a complete change revision, leaving him to take his second bike out for most of the session.
