Saw Evel do 16 cars back in '71. Dumped it intentionally on the landing runout.

Saw Evel do 16 cars back in '71. Dumped it intentionally on the landing runout. I saw some fat guy jump 6 cars with a stuntwoman on back. Seriously, I did. That's the kind of shit you'd see at Boothill Speedway in Shreveport Louisiana. www.cyclejumpers.org/biged.html

I've always been a fan of inline 4 Japanese bikes, but I want a street version of that bike.
It looks like it is a lot of fun to ride.
I had a Virago 920 for a while and the combination of big V twin and shaft drive made it scary to drive. You had to remember if it would lift or squat depending on which way you were exiting a corner.

Other than the ramps the run up and run out areas consisted of 4X8 sheets of plywood laid end to end on the grass. At the end of the run out was a pile of haybales protecting the inner rail of the horsetrack. He laid it down when he realized he wasn't gonna stop normally and pounded the hay. He limped back up to the landing ramp and thanked everybody for coming. Next day the 16 cars was down to 10.

I am old enough to remember all those times that Evel grabbed the microphone and told the crowd they had just witnessed his last jump, after a bad landing put him on the ground.
I think ABC Wide World of Sports were his biggest backers.

If Pastrana had some real balls he would have done these half drunk and pretty stoned like Evel was.

I got to meet him at the height of his popularity, right around the time of the Snake River jump. I came away with the profound realization that he was just an asshole. He treated every one around him like garbage. When we got home I threw my Evel Knievel toys away. You have to be a pretty bad jerk to make an 8 year old that idolizes you hate you. He was that. Sometimes it is better to never meet your idols.
