Because they view F1 as a British sport, and since most of the teams are based there I understand that.

Yes; I was riffing off the theme in this thread about Brits winning, noting that European drivers and teams are still dominating. They race all over, but the drivers and teams are primarily from Europe and therefore the winners are generally from Europe.

Red Bull is majority owned by the Thai based family of it's co-founder so it's a 49% Euro team. But to put a finer point on things the A OP was exclusively talking about British drivers, not European ones.

There were as many drivers from North America as there were from Britain this year. That's not common, even when you consider it's a country-plus, versus a continent.
