Bezzecchi makes history snatching first-ever MotoGP™ pole in India The Italian is looking in fine fettle as he denied Martin pole position with the title-fighting trio making up the front row The first-ever MotoGP™ qualifying at the Buddh International Circuit has drawn to a close and has served as the perfect precursor to the racing action at the IndianOil Grand Prix of India! Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) stamped his authority on the chasing pack, with his 1:43.947 standing as the all-time lap record in India. Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) was the man to beat following practice but was denied by the Italian as the Spaniard fell just 0.043s short of his title rival for the pole. The Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Tram) was leaving some hefty dark lines on the Indian Circuit as the champ slid his way to take the final front-row spot to keep himself well in the fight ahead of lights-out. The Q1 battle The green flag dropped on Saturday's Q1 session and it was an intense time-attack battle that decided the final two Q2 spots. It was Raul Fernandez (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™ Team) who won the Q1 fight taking the top spot with a 1:44.410 as he consolidated a Q2 spot. Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) suffered a crash in the closing stages but did take the 2nd spot with the yellow flags out on the circuit. The other Gresini machine of Fabio Di Giannantonio was also battling it out for the top two positions but just missed out, with Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) falling victim to the yellow flags once again. Game on in India! The banker laps came in and it was Jorge Martin who was on top as the riders returned to the pits. There was still plenty of life left in the Q2 session, however. Fresh rubber then went in and the battle for pole was on for the first time in India! Martin and Bezzecchi lit up the timing screens on their first flyers out of the box. Bezzecchi struck first with the first-ever 1:43 lap at the Buddh Circuit. Attacks came in from Martin and Luca Marini but no one could match the Italian's time as he took pole. Bagnaia came out of the pits with fire in his belly as he had Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) glued to his rear wheel. The Italian chipped away at his lap time as he bagged an important front row beside his title rivals. As close as you like in MotoGP™! Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) will head the 2nd row after finishing 0.268s away from the top spot in P4. The Italian will be joined by a delighted Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) who bagged a positive P5 to make it two Repsol Hondas on row two with Marc Marquez in P6. Taking the 7th spot on the grid was Johann Zaro (Prima Pramac Racing) with his compatriot Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) enjoying a solid weekend for him in P8. The Frenchman will start from the middle of row three with Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) taking P9. Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) will be one to keep an eye on as he'll be looking to carve his way through the grid from P10. The Spaniard will line up alongside Raul Fernandez who fought his way up through Q1. Alex Marquez didn't put a lap in Q2 following his Q1 crash. The Spaniard has been declared unfit ahead of the Tissot Sprint

Masia motors to wet-weather pole with Holgado failing to make Q2 The Spaniard put together an absolute wet-weather masterclass, destroying the field by seven tenths! Saturday at the IndianOil Grand Prix of India saw torrential conditions delay proceedings ahead of Moto3™ Q2. Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) excelled in the rain as the action got underway at the Buddh International Circuit. The Spaniard put on a dominant display as he got to grips with the conditions to set the fastest lap of the session on his final tour with a 2:09.336. Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team) bagged 2nd place 0.727s back from the polesitter with Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) taking a much-welcomed front row. It wasn't a great day in the office for Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) as the Championship Leader failed to fight his way through Q1 and will have to start the Grand Prix of India from P19. On the second row, it was Scott Ogden (VisionTrack Racing) who snatched the front spot after an impressive display, with Kaito Toba (SIC58 Squadra Corse) and Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets - MSI) joining him in 5th and 6th. Stefano Nepa (Angeluss MTA Team) had a decent wet-weather showing and snapped up P7. Joining the Italian on the third row will be Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) and Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) in 8th and 9th, with David Salvador (CIP Green Power) rounding out the top 10.

Dixon beats Acosta to snatch pole in India A wet-weather showdown saw the Brit take the top spot by a whisker ahead of Acosta and Garcia A damp Buddh International Circuit played into the hands of Jake Dixon (Inde GASGAS Aspar Team) as an exchange of fast laps with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) saw him come out on top with a 2:01.924. The Championship leader was forced to settle for 2nd place as his time saw him just 0.032s shy of pole. Sergio Garcia (Pons Wegow Los40) was also setting red sectors after fighting his way up from Q1. Getting those extra laps in the earlier session helped the Spanish rookie take his first Moto2™ front row. Zonta van den Goorbergh (Fieten Olie Racing GP) was another who came through Q1 and put his extra track time to good use as he took P4 to head the Indian GP front row. The Dutchman will be joined by Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) and Alonso Lopez (GT Trevisan SpeedUp) who took 5th and 6th. Tony Arbolino (Elf MarcVDS Racing Team) didn't show the wet-weather form we know he's capable as the Italian finished a second off the pace in P7. He'll be joined on row three by Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team) and Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) with Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) rounding out the top 10.

Gresini “have opportunity” to sign Marc Marquez Paolo Ciabatti, Ducati Corse Sporting Director, believes that the Italian outfit are on of the options available to the HRC superstar One of the hottest topics within the paddock over the last few weeks, speculation is rife that we may see eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez end his long-standing partnership with Repsol Honda. Rumours have surfaced in recent weeks that the #93 may opt for a switch to Ducati, chiefly alongside his brother Alex at Gresini Racing, and now Ducati Corse Sporting Director Paolo Ciabatti has not only fanned the flames, but doused the fire with fuel in his latest interview with MotoGP™ Pitlane reporter Jack Appleyard. "As far as Gresini goes, I think it obviously looks like they have this opportunity and they are waiting for Marquez’s decision. I see here that Marquez is very fast with the Honda so yeah, we hear what you hear. He will talk to Honda management in Japan and make a decision but it is something up to him and the team. We as Ducati have four contracted riders which are the two at Lenovo and Pramac and that’s it. "This is what we hear, I think everybody knows. I think there are no other options left, it’s the only bike without a rider and Marquez says he had three options. For sure one is to stay with Honda, the other two we can only guess so don’t ask me more, you should ask Marc Marquez and Gresini, people from Gresini, what’s going on. We are negotiating nothing." It's perhaps the biggest hint yet that Marquez to Ducati machinery is very much on, and it seems just a matter of time until we find out for sure.

Martin's title charge continues as Marquez makes top-three return The Spaniard got the better of Bagnaia yet again as it was a case of damage limitation for the reigning champ History was made on Saturday at the IndianOil Grand Prix of India as Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) won the first Tissot Sprint on Indian soil, making it three victories in a row for the Spaniard- two sprints and one GP. The Pramac man put on a dominant display to deny Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) victory as the Italian tamed his Ducati beast to bring home crucial points in P2. It was a positive day in the Repsol Honda camp as Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) tried all he could to cling onto the Bologna bullets and brought home a solid top-three result. Martin hits the ground running The lights went out in India for the first time in MotoGP™ history and it was a lightning start for Jorge Martin who took the holeshot into Turn 1. Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) lost buckets of time after dropping through the order due to a Turn 1 collision with Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) which saw his teammate go down and out of the race. Meanwhile, at the front, Martin had Pecco Bagnaia for company as the reigning champ was eager to latch himself onto the rear wheel of his title rival. Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) also got a brilliant start from 5th on the grid to put himself into P3 on lap 1. It wasn't long before he fell into the clutches of teammate Marc Marquez however as the eight-time champ put himself into the top three. Brad Binder was a man on a mission in the opening stages as the South African flew his way from 14th to 5th on the grid to latch himself onto the Repsol Honda duo who were shadowing Bagnaia's every move. Disaster then came for Joan Mir as a mistake saw him drop down the order, and in a desperate attempt to make up lost ground hit the deck and was out of the race Martin had the bit between his teeth in the lead as he flew away from the World Champion, stretching the gap to two seconds and controlling his lead to the chequered flag. Bagnaia tried all he could to chase down the Spaniard and subsequently pulled away from the clutches of Marc Marquez to bring home crucial points in P2. Marquez vs Binder With the laps ticking away Marc Marquez had plenty on his hands as Brad Binder was breathing down the #93's neck. With the chequered flag drawing nearer and nearer it felt as if it was only a matter of time before South African was going to make a move. Binder had nothing in the tank for the Repsol Honda man however, and Marquez brought home an extremely positive top three on his Honda machine, forcing Binder to settle for 4th. Bezzecchi on the charge… Marco Bezzecchi put together an incredible recovery after dropping down the order on lap one. With 6 laps to go the Italian had already pushed his way into the top 10, and managed to pip Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) for a top 5 finish after putting down the fastest lap of the race on the final lap - beating the previous that was also set by the Italian. Quartararo himself enjoyed a very positive Indian Sprint. The Frenchman finished just 4.327s back from the victory and was under 2 seconds away from the top three as he brought home P6. Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) snapped up 7th place ahead of Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing), with Raul Fernandez (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™ Team) taking the final point in P9

From a Deckchair on the Iceberg And for what? Now that they're universal, Hole-Shot + Variable Ride Height add fuck-all but mayhem to the sport.
How hard is it for MotoGP to understand that pilots can't brake safely without full-stroke suspension in T1?
David Emmett Banning holeshot and ride-height devices would be the biggest contribution to safety MotoGP could make. They are clearly creating a huge amount of risk at the start.
