Veijer finds untouchable form in India Practice 2 saw a masterclass from the rookie as he showed his worth on a level playing field with Championship leader Holgado hitting the deck Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) found an extra gear in the afternoon session as he convincingly went top to lead the way at the IndianOil Grand Prix of India with a 1:59.566. The Dutch rookie was the first rider to break the 2-minute barrier and put in consistent laps on his own to chip away at the leading benchmark. Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) was looking as strong as ever as he joined the Dutchman as the only other rider in the 1:59 club, just +0186s shy of top time. Stefano Nepa (Angeluss MTA Team) rounded out the top three after keeping himself consistently in the top half of the timing sheets. Despite taking a tumble, David Alonso (GASGAS Aspar Team) had another strong showing in Moto3™. The Colombian finds himself in P4 on day 1, and having taken three wins in the last four races, you can bet the rookie will be a force to be reckoned with come Sunday. Riccardo Rossi (SIC58 Squadra Corse) rounded out the top five ahead of the Brazilian Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets MSI). Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) bagged P7 to kick off day 1 of the flyaway run, with Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team), and Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) rounding out the top 10. It was a tough start to the weekend for the Championship leader Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3). The Spaniard suffered a nasty off towards the end of the session and finished the day in P13 with the all-important Q2 spots up for grabs on Saturday.

Arbolino beats Acosta to take Day 1 honours in India The Italian is looking in fine form at the Buddh International Circuit with Acosta and Ogura in hot pursuit Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) is back with a vengeance! The Italian topped the timesheets on Day 1 of the IndianOil Grand Prix of India as his 1:52.105 saw him snatch the top spot at the sight of the chequered flag. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) heads the chasing pack after falling just 0.018s short of his title rival's time, with his flying lap coming in just seconds after Arbolino's. Ai Ogura (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) is enjoying life on the other side of the globe. The Japanese rider is looking strong at the Buddh International Circuit and ends day 1 in P3. Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) recovered from a difficult Practice 1 session to go over 2s quicker in Practice 2 as he took 4th place on the combined timing sheets. Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) topped P1 and went a tenth quicker in P2 to round out the top five, with Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Mastercamp) slotting in just behind in P6. Jake Dixon (Inde GASGAS Aspar Team) put down some red sectors in the closing stages but lacked pace in the middle of the lap and could only manage P7. Filip Salac (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) then took P8 with Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) and Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing) rounding out the top 10.

Marini heads Martin as Bagnaia struggles for form in India The Italian topped the timesheets ahead of an on-form Martin looking to capitalise on his title rival's struggles The first-ever day of MotoGP™ action at the Buddh International Circuit threw up a treat as the stage is set for a barnstorming weekend of action at the IndianOil Grand Prix of India. Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) had the bit between his teeth in Practice as he put down a stunning 1:44.782 to lead the field by just 0.008s ahead of the first-ever Grand Prix of India. Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) was in superlative form with his recent victory fuelling his confidence. The Spaniard finished just short of the top spot in P2 but is very much looking like the favourite going into the racing action on Saturday and Sunday. Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) was also looking racey as he kept his name towards the sharp end. The Barcelona victor started his weekend in P3, putting his years of experience to good use as he quickly adapted to the new challenge. Crunch time in Practice! With Friday afternoon's Practice session deciding who goes through to Q2, the riders spent the majority of the session working on their race packages before biting the screen for their late time attacks. The top 10 go through to Q2, and it was a mad rush as the soft tyres went in with fifteen minutes to go. The times really began to tumble but it was late charge in the final moments that saw Luca Marini crush the hearts of his competitors as he set the benchmark with the fastest time of the weekend so far. Martin was the man to beat for the majority of the session, and did move the goalposts by half a second ahead of time-attack war, but was denied by Marini with yellow flags out and little time remaining. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was one of those threatening the top spots as well. Red sectors came in from the eight-time champ, but the ask was a little too much for the Repsol Honda man as he took a positive P4. Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) was also looking strong after topping Friday morning's Practice 1, but couldn’t put himself any higher than P5 when the soft rubber went in. Bagnaia with something up his sleeve… The reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) was very much in the danger zone as the clock was ticking away in the final 10 minutes. The Championship leader was sat outside of Q2 contention and had some work to do with the pace getting hotter and hotter. Bagnaia hadn't been setting the world on fire throughout the day, but with the question asked of the Italian, he bit the screen to bag P7 and an important Q2 spot just behind Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing). Pecco isn't often one to excel during Friday practice. The Italian did seem confident on his way back to pitlane however, which leaves us wondering - is the champ struggling or is he keeping his cards close to his chest? Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) enjoyed a much more positive day onboard his Yamaha M1, despite suffering from two mechanical failures in the morining session. The Frenchman finds himself in an automatic Q2 spot in P8, and is looking confident with the new circuit leveling the playing field that little bit more. The Frenchman's compatriot Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) finished just behind in P9, with Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) also returning to Q2 with a much-needed top 10. Too little too late… It's anyone's guess as to who will take the top two spots in Q1. Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) was the first to miss out after finishing Practice in P11. Yellow flags played a big part in deciding Brad Binder's (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) fate at the Grand Prix of India. The South African left it until the last minute to put in his flyer and despite jumping up to P4, the KTM man's time was cancelled with yellow flags out on the circuit. Binder will be joined in Q1 by Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), Franco Morbidelli (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™), and Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™ Team) in Q1, as well as his teammate Jack Miller who failed to make the Q2 cut.

The reasons behind Quartararo's double mechanical failure in P1 Meregalli gives the low-down on exactly what happened as well as what to expect from Yamaha's new engine Friday morning's Practice 1 session at the IndianOil Grand Prix of India saw 2021 World Champion Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) lose valuable track time as he was forced to nurse his Yamaha M1 back to pitlane not once, but twice whilst trying to acquaint himself with the Buddh International Circuit. Following the session Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ team manager Massimo Meregalli revealed what the issues were with Frenchman's machine. "Fabio had problems on both bikes. It was the transmission. It was strange and for safety reasons, we decided to stop Franky. So we can understand where the problem is coming from. It cost us a lot of time on track, the second session is long and we will try to do all the work we couldn't do this morning. It's a pity because it's a new circuit, like this one which I really like but it is long and not easy to learn, what we lost this morning I think is very important.” The Yamaha team boss also shed light on the arrival of Yamaha's new upgraded engine which was tested in Misano, explaining that it may take longer than expected. "There is no different point of view, it was just a matter of communication. That was our mistake because we didn’t inform him of our expectations. What we gained from the Test is what we expected. The engine was quite a new one with a different character. I was satisfied because we didn’t have any issues, and basically, we confirmed what the expectations were, knowing we were already working on two different specs. One will be in Valencia, and the other one in Malaysia.”

As you may have read the Pattersons' anti-India posts here...
India MotoGP Disaster Averted Because There Never Was An India MotoGP Disaster How social media anxiety and manipulation works .... by Dean F. Adams Thursday, September 21, 2023
Souptastic has often contemplated the idea of compiling a year's worth of "Hair on Fire" incidents in MotoGP into a spreadsheet and sharing it with the public on December 31st. The aim is to demonstrate that the vast majority of the so-called "disasters" hyped by certain corners of the MotoGP media and on social media ultimately amount to very little (jack squat!), echoing the sentiment of the late Chris Farley's iconic "Van Down By The River" SNL skit.
During a couple of weeks, there was a prevailing sense of gloom and doom surrounding issues like visa problems in the paddock and the condition of the India track, which was described as a muddy trail through a snake-infested gravel pit. However, it turned out that these concerns were largely unfounded, as the majority of the paddock found themselves in India, enjoying the place and the racetrack.
This prompts an important question for fans who engage with social media: should they consider the possibility that they are being manipulated? How it works: Somebody posts sensational headlines and provocative crap to grab readers' attention: MOTOGP RIDER HAIR ON FIRE. PLUS, SNAKES! Social media user: OMG, MOTOGP RIDER HAIR ON FIRE WITH SNAKES! BETTER UNLEASH THIS NEWS TO ALL MY SOCIAL MEDIA "FRIENDS". Social media user BETTER CHECK BACK AND—OMG SOUNDS LIKE THE SNAKES ARE ACTUALLY BLOWING FLAMES ON OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PADDOCK. Click back, click back, click back ....anxiety level near redline. Social media news poster: SNAKES BLOWING FLAMES FROM THEIR MOUTHS WHILE ATOP MOTOGP RIDER HEADS MEANS EVENT PROBABLY CANCELLED. Social media user OMG. THE EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO FLAME-BLOWING SNAKES NESTLED IN MOTOGP RIDERS HAIR (Binder not applicable obvs.) Social media user Anxiety now well-over redline. BETTER TELL ALL MY SOCIAL MEDIA FRIENDS HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS DISASTER AND ALSO GAUGE AND AFFIRM HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT FLAME-BLOWING SNAKES ON MOTOGP RIDER HEADS AT SUBSTANDARD RACETRACK IN GRAVEL PIT. Click back, click back, click back ....anxiety level pegged deep in redline. Social media user 15 minutes without an update to this emotional or controversial content??! THIS CAN ONLY MEAN ITS EVEN WORSE THAN TRUE. IT'S VERY EXTREMELY TRUE--paraphrase of Medley-ism. Social media user then sees visual proof that MotoGP riders are at the seemingly nice track in India without snakes breathing fire in their hair. In fact, paddock people seem to be enjoying India and find it a powerfully spiritual country just like George Harrison, Steve Jobs and our Nick Hayden did (after Nick got over the cows in the street). WELL, I GUESS ALL THAT WAS FOR NOTHING. Social media user What time is FP1 again? Oh! Okay, I'm going to record it then. I am going to try and stay off social media so no spoilers ruin it for me. — ends —

Sully.27 Buddh layout and elevation really looks good. Gravel traps are getting plenty of work as riders learn their way around. The gravel is doing its job well, because the fence is close in a few places. T1 is a concern for a high speed crash early in the braking zone.

Mat Oxley The heat is so intense here that the riders are getting cooked by their 300bhp bikes. Bagnaia said his throat & legs are burning when he’s on the bike

Mat Oxley The number of run offs at Turn 1 is the weirdest thing here. Riders say lack of grip & super fast speed into first gear corner. Martin said, “It’s not easy to find your braking reference there… but I’ve found mine.”

Niki Kovács Because of the massive heat and humidity (riders couldn't breath after a couple of laps today), the Sprint will be shortened to 11 laps (from 12), while the Sunday race to 21 laps (instead of 24) at the Buddh I.C.
