Moto3™: Alonso wins in last-lap Catalan showstopper! The gloves were off in Barcelona as the Colombian came out on top in a last-lap showdown that saw the Championship leader on the deck Moto3™ delivered an absolute barnstormer in Barcelona as there was action everywhere you looked on the final lap. David Alonso (GASGAS Aspar Team) took the spoils by just 0.076s after an incredible final corner overtake saw three riders squeezed up onto the apex. Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) did everything he could to take victory. It wasn't meant to be for the Spaniard, but he did bring home 20 crucial points with his title rival Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) crashing out on the last lap. It was a day for the Rookies as Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) picked up his first Grand Prix podium. Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) took the holeshot as he snatched the lead from Ivan Ortola (Angeluss MTA Team) into Turn 1. Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing Pruestel GP) stayed firm in P3 until Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) eagerly pushed his way through as they barrelled into the final sector for the first time. It didn't take long for Masia to take the lead as he slotted up the inside of Deniz Öncü with 16 laps remaining to lead the freight train as the battle for victory began to shape with a gaggle of riders snapping at the Leopard man's heels. The group proceeded to swap paintwork and bang handlebars as a mix of fresh talent and proven Moto3™ big hitters got their elbows out with the slipstream effect changing the order every time the riders flew down the front straight. Holgado hit the front with 12 laps to go and a pattern began to form as Öncü, Masia, and Holgado consistently kept themselves in the top 3 despite challenges from the chasing pack. David Alonso, David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports), and Jose Antonio Rueda all fancied their chances as they kept themselves consistently in the hunt, making some big moves in the leading group. Holgado led across the line to begin the last lap as Masia charged through from 4th to the lead of the race. The last sector came around and the gloves came off as chaos unfolded. They were four abreast down into the hard braking Turn 10. Masia defended as Alonso, Muñoz, and Öncü were all looking for a way through. Masia ran wide allowing Alonso and Muñoz past, meaning it was all down to the final corner. Disaster then came for Holgado as he lost at front Turn 10 with his title rivals still very much in the leading battle. Muñoz led into the last turn as they went three abreast into a corner once deemed impossible to make an overtake. Alonso dived up the inside of Muñoz as Masia tried to squeeze under the both of them. Both riders did go through as Alonso came out on top and held the victory to the line ahead of Masia. The carnage lost Muñoz drive onto the front straight, Öncü saw this and tried to capitalise as he slingshot himself out of the final corner and straight into the side of the Spaniard seeing the BOE Motorsports KTM machine barrel through the gravel at the final corner. Öncü crossed the line in 3rd but a 6s penalty for the last-corner incident demoted the Turk to 12th place, promoting Jose Antonio Rueda to his first Grand Prix podium.

Dixon doubles up with statement Moto2™ win in Barcelona! The Brit took a hard-fought victory after a race-long battle in the leading group Jake Dixon (Asterius GASGAS Aspar Team) showed he means business in the title fight as he put in a Moto2™ masterclass to take victory at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya. The Brit was involved in a race-long tussle with Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) and Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo), as Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo) crashed the party to take 3rd in the closing stages. The lights went out in Barcelona and it was Dixon who held the lead through the first sector from pole. The Brit led the opening laps as he had Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp) and Aron Canet for company. Gonzalez took over the lead with 17 laps remaining whilst Acosta was climbing up the order after starting from 9th on the grid. Whilst the top three continued to scrap it out Gonzalez had fell into the clutches of Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo) who demoted his compatriot to 4th and latched himself onto the leading trio. The gloves were off with five laps remaining as Acosta, Canet, and Dixon swapped and changed positions. Acosta then began to plummet as the Spaniard dropped back to 5th behind Gonzalez and Arenas. It then went from bad to worse for the Championship leader as the Spaniard ran off-circuit at Turn 1 and was forced to run through the long lap loop to rejoin behind Sergio Garcia (Pons Wegow Los40) in 6th. The group had stretched out on the penultimate lap as Dixon led Canet with Arenas in a distant 3rd. Last lap time came around as we had a straight shoot-out for victory between Dixon and Canet. The Brit went defensive into Turn 1 as he could feel the Spaniard breathing down his neck. The GASGAS rider had his line covered into Turn 10 as they barrelled into the final sector. Canet had a go at the final corner but Dixon had it covered once again as he proved his Assen victory was no fluke! Arenas brought home a lonely but welcomed 3rd place with Sergio Garcia pushing his way up 4th. Manuel Gonzalez managed to fend off Pedro Acosta for 5th place with the Championship leader taking 6th. Tony Arbolino (Elf MarcVDS Racing Team) did his Championship challenge no favours as he finished outside of a point-scoring position. Acosta now leads the Italian by 22 points with Dixon another 22 back in 3rd.

Mat Oxley MotoGP has been getting more & more dangerous in the last few years due to speeds, aero etc & now we are starting races with zero suspension travel, flat front tyres (1.4 bar) & everyone arriving at Turn One together. This needs to stop. Hope no one is seriously injured
Mat Oxley Seems Bagnaia has nothing broken which is wonderful. Binder visited him in the medical centre and said: “I didn’t expect to find him chilling!”. No word about Misano but with no broken bones you’d assume he’ll have a go at least

A. Espargaro wins at home as Bagnaia's title tilt takes sudden blow The Aprilia Captain put on a perfect display to take his first victory at his home circuit Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) grew up a mere five-minute drive from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and today made history at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya as he took victory in front of his home fans. The crowd were up on their feet as a Catalan one-two saw Espargaro's teammate Maverick Viñales join his fellow Aprilia man on the Catalan Grand Prix podium. Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) took full advantage of an absent Francesco Bagania (Ducati Lenovo Team) as the Italian watched on from the medical centre. The Spaniard took 3rd place to close in on the Pecco's Championship lead by 16 points. A nasty blow for the World Champion All eyes were on the local man A. Espargaro as he lined up in the middle of the front row ahead of his home Grand Prix. The lights went out but it was a disastrous start to the Catalan GP as Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) went a bit too hot into Turn 1 and had nowhere to go as the field tipped in. The Italian caught the rear end of Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) seeing them both go down and ending in a multi-rider pile-up at the Turn 1 gravel trap. Just seconds later Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) suffered a nasty high-side on the exit turn two which saw the Italian thrown over the handlebars in front of the chasing pack. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was then caught unsighted and ran into the stranded Ducati rider. The red flags came out and Bagnaia was taken to the medical centre as the necessary track maintenance prepared the circuit for a race restart. Time to press the reset button... As the riders lined back up on the grid it was a case of putting the past events behind them ready for a fresh restart. The home hero had a clear view into Turn 1, but it was Martin who took the holeshot this time around. Viñales came out of blocks guns blazing as he hit the front with a firm first-lap move. The Catalan led the way ahead of Martin with Aleix Espargaro sitting in 3rd as he had his hands full with Miguel Oliveira. Viñales began to stretch out a few bike lengths on Martin as Espargaro was determined to make sure his teammate didn't break away and proceeded to push his way past Jorge Martin with 21 laps to go. Oliveira then decided to strike whilst the iron was hot and followed pursuit to put himself into 3rd. Inevitably Espargaro bridged the gap to his teammate as he used incredible pace at the Catalan circuit to keep himself in victory contention. We then had a battle of attrition on our hands as the laps ticked away and the three Aprilias led the way at the front of the race. Oliveira was unable to hold onto the factory duo, however, as the two teammates pulled away from the Portuguese rider. Oliveira then fell into the clutches of Jorge Martin who pounced on the RNF rider with 14 laps remaining. A battle of concentration on shredded rubber Aleix dropped back after a mistake with 12 laps to go. Viñales now had a 1.5s lead ahead of his fellow Catalan, and the time came for the Tissot Sprint victor to show what he had in the tank as he was faced with the prospect of grabbing his first Grand Prix victory at his home round. The Aprilia Captain proceeded to eat chunks of his teammate's lead as the laps ticked away. Espargaro slowly piled on the pressure as he edged closer and closer to his fellow Aprilia. With four laps to go Esargaro pounced on Maverick as he parked his RSGP up this inside of the #12 forcing him to run through the long lap loop. Tyre wear became apparent on the Aprilia machines as Viñales dropped like a stone and allowed his teammate to clear off. The gap came back down on the final lap but it wasn't enough for Maverick to challenge as Espargaro took the race win by 0.377s. Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) crossed the line in a lonely 3rd place and took 16 points out of Baganaia's Championship lead with his teammate Johann Zarco two seconds back in 4th. The rest of the field Miguel Oliveira slipped down to 5th place by the time the chequered flag came out, with a battle for sixth place being won by Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) a further 3 seconds back. The Spaniard got the better of Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) who finished in 7th and 8th respectively. Augusto Fernandez (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) bagged P9 with Fabio Di Giannantionio (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) rounding out the top 10. It was a weekend to remember for Aleix Espargaro and for Aprilia Racing. Not only did Aleix take both the Tissot Sprint and Grand Prix victories, but the Noale manufacturer came away with both their factory machines securing top 3 finishes in both events. MotoGP™ now turns its attention to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy for the Gran Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini from the 8th - 10th of September.

The Captain delivers at home: Aprilia deny Bagnaia victory in Barcelona A. Espargaro rose to the occasion as he won the first Tissot Sprint on Catalan soil - and he did it against the World Champion! The home crowd were in high spirits as local hero Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) sealed victory at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya Tissot Sprint, becoming the sixth different Saturday winner of the season so far. The "Captain" got the better of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) as the World Champion had no answer for the flying Aprilia ahead, instead forced to defend against the next one: Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing). The number one plated Ducati was the meat in the Aprilia sandwich but just held on to deny Aprilia a 1-2 as Viñales looked for a way through on the final lap. The Captain vs The Champion Tensions were rocketing as the grid got off onto their warm lap with spots of rain beginning to threaten the Catalan GP Tissot Sprint. Wet bikes were being prepared but the time had come for lights out and there was no looking back now. The weather, luckily, held firm. As the lights went out, it was a clean start for Bagnaia and Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing), and Bagnaia defended the lead from pole as, nevertheless, the two Aprilias fended off the fast-starting Pramac machine. Viñales almost immediately shot through into second past Martin, and Bagnaia, Viñales, Espargaro was the order as they crossed the line for the first time. Espargaro then took over from his teammate at Turn 1 though, the Captain beginning his charge. Bagnaia powered on though, the odd drop of rain not affecting the track conditions. But the number 41 Aprilia was soon locked on and the duo began to pull away from the rest of the field. Viñales was initially left to defend 3rd place as Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™) were snapping at the Spaniard's heels. With six laps to go, it was game on in Barcelona as Aleix Espargaro attacked for the lead. And he took it, immediately putting the hammer down in an attempt to break away from the Ducati. Bagnaia had no answer for Espargaro however as the Aprilia stretched out half a second in one lap. Espargaro proved to be untouchable at the front as he went on to take the Sprint victory by just under two seconds, putting down a pace that not even the reigning World Champion could match. Bagnaia left with his hands full… Viñales was catching the Championship leader as the laps ticked down, and he was bringing Binder with him. Sure enough, Bagnaia fell into the clutches of the chasing Viñales with two laps remaining as it became a Ducati vs Aprillia scrap for 2nd place. The last lap came and Maverick was riding pillion to Bagnaia as he desperately looked for a way through. Bagnaia put in an incredible defensive performance and was simply too strong on the brakes to allow Viñales a chance. Binder did all he could to stay in the fight but found himself eight-tenths back from the top three by the time the chequered flag dropped. Battles all the way through the field! Further back, Jorge Martin bagged P5 after an eventful Sprint. The Spaniard pushed his way past Miguel Oliveira after dropping down the field early on. Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) was almost two seconds back from Oliveira in P7, but he nabbed that late as he pulled a VR46 on Mooney VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi at the final corner. Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) picked up the final Sprint point in P9, as the Italian made some more steps back towards his brilliant best.

Viñales receives official warning after tyre pressure offence The Spaniard's pressures were found to be outside the permitted parameters during the Catalan Grand Prix The MotoGP™ stewards have issued Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) an official warning following Sunday's race at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya. The Spaniard picked up 2nd place at this home Grand Prix but was found to be running tyre pressures lower than the parameters which MotoGP™'s official technical partner Michelin recommends. As this was the first offense for this season for the Catalan and his Aprilia team, the FIM MotoGP™ Stewards panel were only inclined to issue an Official Warning.

Mat Oxley List of Moto GP fatalities since the 80s. We are now back to the 80s, which was when the number of deaths encouraged many to work tirelessly to improve safety, spending many millions and doing an amazing job. Now, for multiple reasons, we are back to square one.

SofaRacer Worth noting that the Ducati Start Device is now so sensationally good it allowed Bastianini to arrive at the First Corner from way back on the Grid with higher velocity than those around him.
Wouldn’t happen with a standard Clutch Start.
