Mat Oxley Looks like Jerez have got the right, so-called Misano kerbs in now. The horrors they were installing a few weeks ago have presumably been dug up and will hopefully never be seen again.

Ortola snatches pole with last-minute stonker It's been a while since we've seen Ivan Ortola at his brilliant best - but he's back in Barcelona! Saturday at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya saw Ivan Ortola (Angeluss MTA Team) return to glory as an intense last-minute rush ended with the Spaniard taking his debut pole after putting down a solid 1:48.205. Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) bagged 2nd place with Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing Pruestel GP) taking a much-welcomed front row. It wasn't a great day in the office for the Championship Leader Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) who could only manage P11. The timing screens lit up with red sectors at the sight of the chequered flag as the usual Moto3™ shenanigans saw the riders leave it until the very last minute to put in their flying laps. There was a big reshuffle as the mad rush for pole position was underway, and it was Ortola who won that battle as he took his maiden pole. On the second row, it was Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) who snatched the front spot with Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team) and Tatsuki Suzuki (Leopard Racing) joining him in 5th and 6th. The KTM Rookie Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was looking strong and snapped up P7. Joining the Spaniard on the third row will be Stefano Nepa (Angeluss MTA Team) and Kaito Toba (SIC58 Squadra Corse) in 8th and 9th, with Riccardo Rossi (SIC58 Squadra Corse) rounding out the top 10 and Daniel Holgado down in P11.

Moto2™: Dixon snaps up first pole of 2023 It was delight in the Dixon camp as the Brit charged to pole position ahead of Canet and Ogura It was a pole position to remember for Jake Dixon (Asterius GASGAS Aspar Team) as the Brit flew his way to the top spot. Dixon's 1:44.089 was enough to deny Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) pole position. The Spaniard has shown strong form at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya as he prepares for a front-row start on Sunday. Rounding out the top three was Ai Ogura (IDEMISTU Honda Team Asia) with Championsip Leader Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) down in 9th and his closest rival Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) failing to make it to Q2. It all got very intense very quickly in the closing stages of the session as red sectors came flying in from every direction. There was a lap cancelled for Acosta which would have put him inside the top five. Dixon was following Acosta on this lap as he set the pole position time with two minutes remaining. Strong efforts came in from Canet and Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Mastercamp), but no one was able to better the Brit's time. Gonzalez just missed out on the front row by only 0.001s as he's set to head row two ahead of Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools Speed Up). Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools Speed Up) will head row 3 in P7 and will be joined by Sergio Garcia (Pons Wegow Los40) and Acosta, with Barry Baltus (Fieten Olie Racing GP) rounding out the top 10.

Mat Oxley Brilliant from Aleix E: incredibly difficult to out-brake Bagnaia & the Ducati, because that's one of the concepts in the Ducati's design: make it impossible to pass on the brakes, by keeping the rear tyre on the road for extra stopping power. Tomorrow will be hotter...
Simon Patterson That last lap is the perfect example of MotoGP's issues. Vinales clearly faster, yet totally unable to get past. Almost running into the back of Bagnaia, because he has so much more corner speed yet no way through.

Mat Oxley MotoGP will fully introduce its tyre pressure regs for the first time this weekend, ie all bikes will send live TPMS data to Race Direction, after random testing of a few bikes last time out. First offence = warning. 2nd/3rd/4th offence = 3/6/12s penalty. The Catalan GP marks another step forward for the new system The new MotoGP™ Tyre Pressure Monitoring System went live at the British GP and it will now be fully automatic from the Catalan GP onwards, as unanimously agreed with the manufacturers and Manufacturers’ Association (MSMA). From now on, all bikes will have their tyre pressures monitored live, and checks will only be made on machines the system deems are not compliant with the rules. As has always been the case, this is to check the sensors are calibrated correctly and that they’re giving the same readings as displayed by the automatic monitoring system. If the sensors are found to be working correctly and the pressures don’t comply, there will be penalties. Technical infringements normally result in disqualification from the session or race, but as the system is new to the MotoGP™ Class and it’s being brought in mid-season, the Stewards have agreed a gradual penalty scale until further notice. To make sure the penalties apply to the actual Sprint or Grand Prix race where the tyre pressure didn’t comply, they will be time penalties given out after the race on the following scale: 1st offense: Warning 2nd offense: 3-second time penalty 3rd offense: 6-second time penalty 4th offense: 12-second time penalty FAQs: What is the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System? It’s a new tyre pressure monitoring system designed to ensure that all MotoGP™ machines comply with the pressures established by MotoGP™ Official Tyre Supplier, Michelin. Tyre pressure is a very sensitive value and readings fluctuate a lot during a race, and even at different points of the circuit. Previously, teams were using their own sensors from different suppliers to check tyre pressures. Now there is one unified system for the whole MotoGP™ grid. The system agreed with the manufacturers is that the tyres have to be above a specific pressure during a minimum percentage of the laps in a Sprint or race. The minimum pressure varies from front to rear tyre, and may change from some circuits to others. These are the percentages: Races over 15 laps = 50% of laps must be at or over minimum tyre pressure Races 15 laps or less = 30% of laps must be at or over minimum tyre pressure Is it just for MotoGP™? Yes, this new Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and its enforcement only applies for the MotoGP™ class. However, there is a minimum tyre pressure in the Moto2™ and Moto3™ classes as well, and in the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship. Does it apply in every session? Not in this first phase of it being introduced. It applies only to the Tissot Sprint and the MotoGP™ Grand Prix race.

The Captain delivers at home: Aprilia deny Bagnaia victory in Barcelona A. Espargaro rose to the occasion as he won the first Tissot Sprint on Catalan soil - and he did it against the World Champion! The home crowd were in the highest of spirits as their local hero Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) sealed victory at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya Tissot Sprint. The Catalan got the better of the Ducati top dog Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) as the World Champion had no answer for the flying Aprilia. The number one plated Ducati was the meat in the Aprilia sandwich as he was also coming under pressure from another local. The Italian had his hands full in defending 2nd place from Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) on the final lap. The Captain vs The Champion Tensions were rocketing as the grid got off onto their warm lap with spots of rain beginning to threaten the Catalan GP Tissot Sprint. Wet bikes were being prepared but the time had come for lights out and there was no looking back now. It was a clean start for the two Ducatis of Bagnaia and Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing). Bagnaia defended the lead from pole as the two Aprilias fended off the fast-starting Pramac machine. Bagnaia, Viñales, Espargaro was the order as they crossed the line for the first time. Espargaro then took over from his teammate at Turn 1 as spots of rain softly fell on the rider's visors. Bagnaia then proceeded to power on with spits of rain not affecting the track conditions. The local man Espargaro wasn't letting Bagnaia out of his sights, however, as the duo began to pull away from the rest of the field. Viñales was left to defend 3rd place as Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™) were snapping at the Spaniard's heels. Espargaro hit the front with six laps to go and it was game on in Barcelona between the Catalan and the Italian. The Aprilia Captain immediately put the hammer down in an attempt to break away from the Ducati golden boy. Baganaia had no answer for Espargaro however as the Aprilia stretched out half a second in one lap. Espargaro proved to be untouchable at the front as he went on to take the Sprint victory by just under two seconds, putting down a pace that not even the World Champion could match. Bagnaia left with his hands full… Viñales had found himself catching the Championship leader as the laps ticked away, and he was bringing Brad Binder with him. Bagnaia fell into the clutches of the chasing Viñales with two laps remaining as it became a Ducati vs Aprillia scrap for 2nd place. The last lap came and Maverick was riding pillion to Bagnaia as he desperately looked for a way through. Bagnaia put in an incredible defensive performance and was simply too strong on the brakes to allow Viñales a chance. Binder did all he could to stay in the fight but found himself eight-tenths back from the top three by the time the chequered flag dropped. Battles all the way through the field! Further back, Jorge Martin bagged P5 after an eventful Sprint. The Spaniard pushed his way past Miguel Oliveira after dropping down the field early on. The Spaniard's teammate Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) was almost two seconds back from Oliveira in P7, as he fended off an eager Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team).
