Acosta unstoppable in Q2 despite early crash From the gravel trap at turn 2a to pole position, the Spaniard can do no wrong in Moto2™ It was a pole position to remember for Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) as the young prospect stamped his authority on Moto2™, completely undeterred from an early session off. The Spaniard's 1:34.040 was enough to deny Ai Ogura (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) pole position. The Japanese rider has shown strong form at the Red Bull Ring. Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) will line up alongside Ogura and Acosta on the front row as the Italian bagged P3 in Q2. It was a plot twist early on as the favourite for pole position Pedro Acosta hit the deck. After smashing the lap record in Practice 3, the Championship leader wasn't going to let a small off affect his confidence. After getting his KTM Kalex machine back to pitlane and heading back out onto the circuit, the Spaniard went straight to the top of the timesheets with no one able to better the untouchable pace of the #37. Jake Dixon (Autosolar GASGAS Aspar Team) has been there or thereabouts all weekend and will head row 2 at the Austrian Grand Prix in P4. Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) showed strong form in Practice but was unable to put it together in Qualifying. The Thai rider will start from 5th place on the grid ahead of Fermin Aldeguer (CAG SpeedUp) and Tony Arbolino (Elf MarcVDS Racing Team).

Veijer steps up to take impressive debut pole New-kid-on-the-block Colin Veijer took the Netherland's first Grand Prix pole since 1999 ahead of Holgado and Öncü Saturday at the CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich won't be a day Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) will be forgetting anytime soon, and neither will Dutch motorsport fans! The Dutch rookie's 1:41.486 was enough to fend off Championship leader Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) who secured an important front-row for Sunday's race. Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was well in the mix as always, the Turk bagged P3 making it three different nationalities on the Moto3™ front row. As ever the times began to tumble in the final couple of minutes of Moto3™ Q2. Holgado was leading the way in the closing stages, but red sectors came flying in from the likes of Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing). Masia lost a lot of time in the final sector and with just 13 seconds on the clock, the rookie Collin Veijer shocked the paddock as he snatched the top spot. On the second row, it was Jaume Masia who took P4 with Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Riccardo Rossi (SIC58 Squadra Corse) joining him in 5th and 6th. The Silverstone victor David Alonso (GASGAS Aspar Team) was looking strong but a late-session crash limited the Colombian's progress to P7. Joining the rookie on the third row will be Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) and Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing PruestelGP) in 8th and 9th, with David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports) rounding out the top 10.

Binder ties long-term MotoGP™ future to Red Bull KTM The South African and the Austrian factory have agreed a contract extension that will see Binder race in orange until the end of 2026 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing will again count on the skills and tenacity of Brad Binder for their MotoGP™ project until the end of 2026. An early contract extension was agreed and signed with the South African star at the team’s home Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Binder, who recently turned 28, will remain in Red Bull KTM colours and onboard the KTM RC16; continuing a prosperous alliance that began in 2020. Brad will stretch his relationship with the factory well beyond a decade after entering the Red Bull KTM structure in 2015: the first of a five-year stint with the Red Bull KTM Ajo crew. Binder won the 2016 Moto3™ crown and then took 8 wins and 15 podiums during a three-term development phase in Moto2™. #33 made the jump to the MotoGP Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team in 2020 and became the first athlete to scale all the way through the KTM GP Academy scheme from his formative days as a teenager in the Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup. He clinched KTM’s maiden premier class victory that same year in the Czech Republic and logged another seven podium appearances to date with a best Championship finish of 6th. His second MotoGP™ success, at the Red Bull Ring for the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix, was another KTM MotoGP™ milestone. Brad also grasped KTM’s first MotoGP™ Tissot Sprint win with his performance in Argentina earlier this season. Binder already had a contract in place for the 2024 MotoGP campaign but will now enter his thirties as a key rider and figure for the firm’s Grand Prix effort. Brad Binder: “A massive thank you to KTM and the management for trusting in me and for letting me be involved in this incredible program for a few more years. We are coming very close to what we want to achieve on the track but I cannot say enough good things about the team and my crew. 2015 and those first KTM races feel like a long time ago! But also time passes quickly and we’ve made some special memories. I know there is a lot more to come and cannot wait to build those stories. Thanks again.” Francesco Guidotti, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: “Brad is a rock of our team and it is great news that he will stay even longer with us. We’ve been building a relationship and a project for a long time now. He brings a winning spirit to our box but also stability and an important understanding of KTM. He is always an exciting rider to watch and a fantastic guy to work with. I want to thank him for his belief in us and for how we’ve pushed together to this point so far. There is still so much potential to come.” Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsports Director: “Keeping Brad at the sharp point of our MotoGP program was a big priority for us. We love everything about this guy: he is an all-out racer and leaves everything on the track. Brad is a valued part of the family and his character and the way he is around the box, the fans and the company makes him the ideal ambassador for us. We’ve already achieved and experienced so much together, and it makes us very proud that he wants to continue on our RC16 and stay in orange. We couldn’t be happier to put that #33 bike in the box for a few more years to come.”

Simon Patterson Maybe controversial, but Jorge Martin smashed through, knocked off 3 riders (including his teammate), and basically ended two other peoples' races with a move that has paid off for him and left him sitting P5 right now. That is something that arguably should be a black flag. Mat Oxley In fact I've changed mind. I think the Turn One pile-up was caused by Vinales looking for a contact lens he'd lost on the warm-up lap. True fact: Freddie Spencer's hopes of winning the 1987 Czech GP were ruined by him losing a contact lens on the warm-up lap Mat Oxley This man as baffled with the stewards as most of us. ie Quartararo penalised, Martin not, for either incident. “The problem is the inconsistency of the rules… I left Jorge space…” David Emmett Jorge Martin given a Long Lap Penalty for the start of the race. That's very good, but the problem is that because it was only handed out after the race, it had a material outcome on the rest of the race. As Marini said, he shouldn't have been in a position to hit him.

Mat Oxley This is MotoGP's hardest-braking circuit, so brake heat is insane, so factories do everything to prevent that heat transferring to the rim & therefore the front tyre. Look at these beaut heat deflectors on Quartararo's M1.

Johann Zarco to GPMAG: “Canal+ made a mistake. I received Ducati's offer this morning: 1 year in MotoGP (not sure it's with Pramac) + 2 in SBK. But Honda's offer is 2 years + 1 in MotoGP, and that's better paid. I decide tonight. »

Martin handed Long Lap penalty for Sunday’s Austrian GP The Prima Pramac star was penalised after being adjudged to be riding irresponsibly in Turn 1’s Tissot Sprint incident at the Red Bull Ring It was the big talking point from Saturday’s action at the CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich. Turn 1 saw seven riders get caught up in the early Tissot Sprint incident, with Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) receiving a Long Lap penalty for his part in the crash. The Spaniard was adjudged to have been riding irresponsibly by the FIM MotoGP™ Stewards, with the outcome being Martin having to take a Long Lap penalty in the next Grand Prix he takes part in. That means the #89 will be taking a LLP in Sunday’s Austrian GP outing, making his charge from P12 on the grid to rescue as many points as possible all the more tricky at the Red Bull Ring.

Vietti charge denies Acosta victory in Austria The Italian pushed his way through the pack to reel in Acosta and seize control of the Austrian GP The CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich delivered blockbuster action as Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) picked off rider by rider in a superb charge through the field. The Italian wasn't settling for anything other than the top step as he denied Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and KTM the victory in Austria. The Spaniard put in a clever ride, however, to strengthen his Championship position as Ai Ogura (IDEMISTU Honda Team Asia) continued his podium form in P3. It was Pedro Acosta who took the holeshot down into turn 1 as Jake Dixon (Autosolar GASGAS Aspar Team) shot up into P2 with Ai Ogura keeping himself in the mix. Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) and Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) crashed out early on as they fell victim to the Turn 2a-2b chicane. At the front, Acosta got into his groove and began to pull away from the rest of the field. Meanwhile, Dixon was coming under pressure from Ai Ogura who eventually got the better of the Brit to put himself into P2. Dixon then fell into the clutches of Celestino Vietti who was on an absolute charge. The Italian pushed his way past the GASGAS man and then had Ogura locked in his sights. Acosta led the way by a second and a half but Vietti was the man on the move as he pounced on Ogura with eleven laps to go. The Japanese rider had no response for the Italian as he proceeded to put down a scintillating pace and started to reel in the race leader. With six laps remaining Vietti was all over the rear wheel of Acosta and wasted no time at all in pushing his way past the Championship leader. Acosta tried all he could to cling onto Vietti but had no answer for Italian who put in an inch-perfect performance to take the victory by 1.435s. Acosta took a crucial 20 points towards his title tilt with Ai Ogura taking another podium in a return to form for the #79. Jake Dixon missed out on the podium one second back from the Japanese rider, with Somkiat Chantra (IDEMISTU Honda Team Asia) rounding out the top five. Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) made a good start but lost ground and lost crucial points as the race went on. The Italian was 14.054s adrift of the victory in 6th place. It was damage limitation for the MarcVDS rider as he put crucial points on the board. The same couldn't be said for some of the other Moto2™ big hitters who hit the deck and left the Red Bull Ring with zero points. Aron Canet (Pons wegow Los40) was one of the crashers as well as Alonso Lopez (CAG SpeedUp) and Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Team).
