Zarco: "Honda seem to want me more than Ducati do" The Frenchman once again opened up on his future, speaking to Canal+ at the Austrian GP Just a few short weeks ago, it seemed that Johann Zarco’s future was all but secure within the ranks of the Prima Pramac Racing team. The Frenchman has enjoyed a fruitful four seasons riding aboard the Ducati, earning 13 podiums since joining in 2020, four of which have come in the current campaign, and both rider and team have expressed their satisfaction of their working relationship. However, as they say, all good things must come to an end, and it appears that that may be sooner rather than later in the case of Zarco if his latest comments are anything to go by. Rumours of a switch to LCR Honda first arose at the British GP a fortnight ago, and the #5 failed to quash them by saying he “would be proud” to ride with the Japanese brand. Zarco has now fanned the flames even further in an interview with MotoGP™’s French broadcaster Canal+, believing that his potential suitors hold a larger desire to have him than his current home. "Honda seem to want me more than Ducati do. But also, Ducati is performing well with a great bike, so I could also make this choice, in order to keep fighting at the top." Zarco also says that there have been little talks since the British GP: "We knew that between Silverstone and Austria there wouldn't be many discussions, so we'll see what happens this weekend. "I'm not worried. In any case, I'll have the choice, which it's a good thing." Zarco’s decision is seemingly key to a number of other riders’ futures. Ducati have four factory bikes to hand out in 2024, two of which will of course be with the factory team, while Prima Pramac Racing are contractually obliged to have two as well. With Mooney VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi also chasing a factory machine, it could open the door for the Italian to move onto one should Zarco move to Honda. That, in turn, would also allow Franco Morbidelli to complete his rumoured return to the VR46 squad after he and Monster Energy Yamaha decided to end their relationship at the conclusion of the current campaign.

David Alonso destroys the field on Day 1 The Colombian starts the weekend with soaring confidence as he ends Practice 2 over half a second clear of the chasing pack It's advantage David Alonso (GASGAS Aspar Team) as Moto3™ action at the CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich got underway at the Red Bull Ring. Fresh from his debut victory, the 2023 rookie put down a 1:41.223 to take the top spot by a sensational 0.629s. It was a rookie one-two on the combined practice times as Colin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) was the best of the rest, with the Dutchman beating Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) to 2nd place by just 0.027s. Whilst the Colombian was in a league of his own, the rest of the grid were locked in usual Moto3™ fashion. The Championship leader Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) enjoyed a positive Friday after topping the first practice session. The Spaniard just missed out on the top three by 0.020s to finish the day in 4th place ahead of Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team) who rounded out the top five. After crashing out of the British Grand Prix, Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) needs a solid finish in Austria to keep his title tilt alive. Whilst the Spaniard wasn't dominating sessions as we've seen at the past GPs, he sits in 6th place and has shown decent pace ahead of the weekend's racing action. Ivan Ortola (Angeluss MTA Team) finished in P3 during Practice 1 but slipped down to P7 on combined times to sit ahead of Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP). The Rookie Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) enjoyed a positive day in P9 ahead of Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets – MSI) who rounded out the top 10 despite hitting the deck.

Late charging Zarco leads Quartararo on Friday morning The two Frenchman lead the way after the opening MotoGP™ Free Practice session of the weekend in Austria A late 1:29.838 lap saw Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) lead MotoGP™ Free Practice 1 by 0.399s at the CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich, as the Frenchman leads long-time session pacesetter and compatriot Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™). Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) rounded out the top three on Friday morning. Despite an early issue on the front end of his Ducati, Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) finished P4 in the opening premier class stint of the weekend, with Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) completing the top five. World Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) sits P8 heading into Practice on Friday afternoon. Augusto Fernandez (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) crashed unhurt at Turn 2A as the reigning Moto2™ World Champion tucked the front when chasing Viñales. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was another rider to crash, the eight-time World Champion ran into the gravel at Turn 4 and couldn’t keep his RC213V upright with four minutes of the session left.

Bagnaia grabs pole by 0.037s as Sprint blockbuster awaits The Championship leader edges out Viñales and Binder in Q2 as three factories claim front row starts at the Red Bull Ring The MotoGP™ grid are ready to race in Austria after an intense qualifying session sets the stage for what promises to be some incredible racing action at the CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) sent a message to his Championship rivals with an incredible qualifying performance. The Italian put in a 1:28.539 to deny the man on-form Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) pole position. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) has his sights firmly set on a Grand Prix victory, as he's set to start KTM's home GP from the outside of the front row. KTMs determined on home turf Q1 got underway at the Red Bull Ring with some big hitters ready to battle it out for the top two spots and a chance at pole position in Q2. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team), and Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) were the favourites as the green flag dropped No one had shown Pol Espargaro (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) the script as the Spaniard decided it was time to bite the screen and show he means business upon his return. The GASGAS rider topped the session early on and was sat in P2 behind Jack Miller as the riders returned to the pits for a change of rubber. The riders hit the track once again as the battle for the two Q2 places was only just getting started. Just as it was proving difficult to topple the KTMs at the top of the session, Luca Marini put in an absolute flyer to take the top spot and bump Espargaro out of the top two. Jack Miller quickly responded as the Aussie moved the goalposts once again to pip the Italian to the top spot by 0.289s. No one could get the better of the two at the top and it was Miller and Marini who went through. The cream rises to the top in Q2 Pitlane opened for Q2 and it was time for the big hitters to hit the circuit to decide the grid for the Austrian Grand Prix racing action. As the sound of MotoGP™ roared through the Styrian hills, it was Maverick Viñales who led the charge after the first run of laps, setting the first 1:28 lap of the session with his teammate Aleix Espargaro in the gravel trap. Bagnaia and Quartararo joined the Spaniard in the top three as the bikes rolled back into the pitlane. Fresh rubber went in and it was crunch time in MotoGP™ qualifying at the Red Bull Ring. Viñales meant business as he slotted himself behind the pole-hound Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing). Martin was first to move the goalposts with Viñales following and retaking the top spot. The KTMs put themselves well into the mix as the clockled ticked down before Francesco Bagnaia put in a Champions' lap as he stamped his authority, and showed the grid exactly why he has the number 1 plate on his factory Ducati machine. Viñales remained untouched in P2 with the KTMs late-charge consolidating Brad Binder an important front row at KTM's home circuit. The South African's teammate Jack Miller was bumped down to P4 after Bagnaia's stellar lap. The boys in orange will be sure to put themselves in victory contention and make full use of their lightning starts. The charging pack Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) was looking strong, he's set to join Miller on row two in P5. Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) will start from the edge of the second row with his teammate Marco Bezzecchi starting in P7, despite setting the all-time lap record during Friday's practice action. Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™ Team ) is beginning to get very comfortable on his Aprilia machine as he bagged P8 in Austria. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) will line up alongside the Portuguese rider in 9th spot in what is looking to be a positive weekend for the Frenchman. Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) rounded out the top 10 in Q2 ahead of Aleix Espargaro who was riding his number two bike after crashing out during the first stint. Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) struggled to improve as the pace heated up, with his best time lap time cancelled due to exceeding track limits. The Spaniard will start from 12th place on the grid.

Bagnaia beats Binder in dramatic Austrian Sprint encounter The Italian extends his title lead with a Champion’s display as leading contenders are involved in drama at the Red Bull Ring Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) converted pole position into Tissot Sprint victory number four of 2023 as the Italian fended off an early Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) challenge at the CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich. Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) picked up P3 but the Spaniard was heavily involved in the drama that unfolded right from the get-go. Leading contenders crash at Turn 1 Bagnaia got away well from pole well with Binder – as always – launching like a rocket ship from the outside of the front row. Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) got a shocking start from P2 and dropped like a stone as Turn 1 played host to high drama. Martin was on the inside line and in hot as contact was made with Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™), which started a domino effect. Viñales was involved as he was sandwiched between Quartararo and Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team), as the latter went down along with Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) and Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™ Team), with Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) also caught up in the incident. Bagnaia untouchable on Saturday Back at the front, Bagnaia led from Binder. By the start of Lap 5 the duo were over a second up the road from Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team), with Martin running in P5. On Lap 6, Miller went from P3 to P5 as Marini and Martin pounced, as more drama involving Martin then unravelled - this time at Turn 2A. Martin was up the inside of Marini but contact was made as the duo tipped it into the apex, with the latter crashing out unhurt. Meanwhile, Bagnaia’s lead was up to a second over Binder, who in turn had three seconds in hand to Martin. With six laps left, Pecco was 1.3s ahead of the leading KTM, and the gap kept on climbing. Binder was a safe second, the #33 was 2.7s up the road from Martin, with Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) a lonely P4 as we got confirmation that no further action would be taken regarding the Martin-Marini clash. Bagnaia, unsurprisingly, made no mistake to bring his Ducati home for Austrian GP Tissot Sprint victory to extend his title lead, with Binder claiming P2 in KTM’s backyard. Martin took the bronze medal from P12 on the grid. A spirited - albeit slightly controversial - comeback ride. Alex Marquez crossed the line in P4 as Miller held onto P5 to finish ahead of GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3’s Pol Espargaro, whose P6 is highly commendable as the Spaniard competes in just his second Tissot Sprint of the season. Aleix Espargaro finished P7, 0.144s behind his younger brother, as Viñales produced a great fight back to take P8. Franco Morbidelli (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) held off Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) for the final Saturday afternoon point.
