Every race should be red flagged with one lap to go and have a one lap shootout. The only way to end a race. See next year's Rules. Gotta evaluate the viewership demographics first, though.
Where NASCAR leads, Indycar and F1 will follow.
Danica was right, But if your IQ is in triple digits, this wasn't even entertaining. I'm waiting for a driver to punt another out of the track, and the puntee coming back and hitting the punter over the head with a chair while chicken blood runs from both their noses.

All I can say is Michael Masi. oh yea. I forgot about him. this race director must be related to masi Maybe it is Masi. He's out of F1, I think.
And here's a suggestion for next year, to up the "entertainment" factor. Instead of the stupid made-for-tv brick-kissing "tradition", The winner gets to get it on on the Yard with the guy or gal of his choice, ala Lime Rock sometime in the '60's. Made the last page of Road and Track.

Has anyone confirmed of Canapinos engine was driving the wheels when he hit Oward? Sounds like it was bouncing off the limiter as he hit Oward, wouldn't that make two cars with stuck throttles after a crash yesterday?

I know I didn't post in the rest of the Indy 500 thread. But, I wanted to say that if the people running Indy 500 had: - thrown the 1st red flag sooner
- didn't allow the cars to run around to yellow after such a big wreck -- RED FLAG out -- lap ends. Take cars to pit lane. PERIOD
- didn't waste 5 laps behind pace car after the 1st red flag
none of the shenanigans of the last lap - turned into a "racing lap" would have happened, AND the winner would have been Ericson of Ferrucci. /DISAPPOINTED.

I am most interested in hearing the post mortem on the wheel assembly that went into the stands. I lost the tweet, it was from one of the local Indy TV stations, but they posted their broadcast report from Monday night. IndyCar says that the tether didn't fail, but when they reached out to officials for a clarification they didn't respond.

Here we go. Found it on YT. If the tether itself didn't fail - what did fail? The tether mounting point? Should the tether's connect both wheels on an axle so that the opposite wheel hub acts like an anchor to the system in addition to the tether's mounting to the car itself. We know 21st Century racing technology is in love with carbon fiber technology, would the suspension pieces benefit from being of composite construction of both metallic and carbon fiber construction. We know, for the most part, when carbon fiber fails, it shatters. When metal fails it will generally deform but still exist.

We Made it to our first Indy 500 yesterday. We (me and two of my sons) sat in the infield inside turn four. I said "Hi" to Buck, I as certain he was there at least in spirit. It was a great time hanging out with the fans, that was new to us. It's a different atmosphere. The visual of the speeds was incredible. The whole spectacle should be experienced by any IndyCar fan. The size of the place just boggles the mind, and being right in the middle of the city. The crowd was huge, We walked outside after the race and down the length of the main straight, and turned to walk along the turn 1/turn 2 chute and we had been walking a half hour. We parked in an abandoned store about a mile away and got out of town with very little traffic. It was an experience every race fan should have. We haven't decided yet where we're going next year. We've done a road course, a street course, and a superspeedway. And Cleveland countless times (R.I.P.).

Or drinking champagne DURING the race!
As to the red flag screw up, it's simple. In the last 10% of the race, ANY on-track incident requiring a response by support personnel onto the track results in an immediate red-flag, with only one warm-up lap behind the safety car when racing is resumed. Strict enforcement on both laps of driver responsibility to produce a green flag. Failure to follow speed requirements, etc. results in disqualification. Any incident in the last two laps results in race stoppage with results being those recorded at S/F on the preceding lap. What happened Sunday was a mistake, followed by a worse mistake, followed by a total screw-up, and a disgrace to the Series and the sport.

Indy Will Replace Fan's Car Destroyed by Flying Tire
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will get Robin Matthews a new car after her Chevy Cruze was collateral damage in a turn 2 crash on Sunday. That got rid of any chance of an awkward conversation between the owner and insurance.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway says it will replace a car damaged by a flying tire detached from an IndyCar during a crash at the Indy 500, reports the Indianapolis Star.
Penske - always a class act.

I was just thinking, Newgarden won the Texas race under yellow, and won Indy because it didn’t end under yellow. It’s almost as if he drives for the series owner or something.

Newgarden has won 5 out of the last 6 oval races on merit, the only one he didn't was the second Iowa race last year when he was dominating but the car broke.
