The Austrian assault continues: Miller makes the headlines The Aussie continued to prove his worth in MotoGP™ as the hopes and dreams of the home fans face the Q1 hurdle There is just no way of predicting which way the tables will turn in the MotoGP™ 2023 season. Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) dominated the proceedings on Day 1 of the SHARK Grand Prix de France, topping both Practice sessions to continue his strong run of form with his new KTM team. Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) showed a return to the top onboard his Aprilia, whilst the Italian prodigy Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) displayed why he can never be discounted taking 3rd place on Day 1. Just 10 up for grabs… As ever in P2 the fight for Q2 positions didn't come until the session drew nearer to the chequered flag. It had to be all or nothing for Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) who was well aware of the importance of bagging a Q2 spot at his home Grand Prix. The Frenchman began put on the afterburners in the final twenty minutes. Riding on the ragged edge, Quartararo's first flyer ended early with a near-miss onboard his Yamaha, seeing him make a dramatic save to regroup and put the hammer down once again. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was the first to reshuffle the order as the South African hit the top of the timesheets to beat his teammates P1 time to make it a KTM one-two. The final 10 minutes came and Miller retook the top spot from his teammate to lose it again straight after to Marco Bezzecchi. The Aussie was looking like he was going to bite right back at the VR46 man but a strong final sector from Bezzecchi kept Miller at bay. Meanwhile, Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) was on a flyer as the Spaniard set red sectors to slot himself into P2, and with two and half minutes remaining the timing screens began to light up. Espargaro, Bezzecchi, Martin was the order with just one minute left. The fans were off their feet as their home hero Johann Zarco began to put down red sectors as he chased down the flying Jack Miller. Miller went top to set the first and only 1:30 with Zarco putting himself into P5 to push Espargaro and Bezzecchi down a spot each and push Bagnaia out of Q2. With Espargaro and Bezzecchi holding strong in 2nd and 3rd, Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) consolidated P4 just ahead of his teammate, as Aprilia Racing's Maverick Viñales bagged P6 ahead of Binder in P7. World Champion vs World Champion: The Bagnaia - Marquez mind games continue It was a familiar sight for Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) as he looked behind with eleven minutes to go to see Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) right on his rear-wheel as the Repsol Honda man was looking to use the World Champion to tow him into a Q2 position. Bagnaia wasn't giving into the mind games as the Italian rode back into pitlane to shake off the Spaniard. Bagnaia headed back out onto the circuit, and it was a last-chance saloon scenario for the Ducati man as he was sat outside of Q2 contention in P12. A swarm of riders followed the World Champion with just six minutes left on the clock. The ominous Marc Marquez slotted himself behind Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) who was shadowing Bagnaia which dragged the Repsol Honda man up to P5. There was one final bite at the cherry for World Champion as Bagnaia just bagged a Q2 spot to put himself into P9, whilst Marc Marquez took another trip to the gravel trap and finished the session just ahead of the Italian in P8. France's favourite falls at the first hurdle It was a disaster for Quartararo on home soil as the Frenchman failed to secure himself a place in Q2. The Yamaha man will have to battle his way through Q1 after finishing in P12 and missing out on the final Q2 spot by 0.139s. The 2020 World Champion will be joined by Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) who enjoyed a solid top 3 in P1. The Italian finished the day 11th fastest and will face Q1 after missing out by just 0.003s to Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™). Quartararo and Marini will also be joined by Alex Rins (LCR Honda Castrol) as well as the fast-charging Augusto Fernandez (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3), Takaai Nakagami (IDEMISTU Honda Team Asia) and Franco Morbidelli (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™). Friday's action saw the return of Danilo Petrucci (Ducati Lenovo Team) as the Italian rejoined forces with the Ducati factory team at the Le Mans circuit where the #9 won with the Bologna bullet during the 2020 season. With the incredibly high level in MotoGP™, it wasn't an easy return for the Italian as the #9 crashed out of P2 with 20 minutes to go and finished the day in P19.

Lowes topples Acosta once again in dominant Day 1 display The Brit stole the top spot from the Spaniard with the Moto2™ field locked together on Friday Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) continued his strong form from the Spanish Grand Prix, topping Day 1 in Le Mans. The Brit snatched Day 1 honours at the SHARK Grand Prix de France with a stunning 1:36.178 as Practice 2 drew to a close. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) took charge of the standings halfway through, and despite running into the gravel trap continued to move the benchmark throughout the session. Still, it wasn't enough to stop the charging Lowes as the Spaniard finished the day in P2 by just 0.005s. Alonso Lopez (Lightech SpeedUp) also showed strong pace on Friday ending the day 3rd fastest just 0.093s away from the top spot with Moto2™ as tight as ever with one second covering the top 19. Aron Canet (Pons Wegwow Los40) made an incredible save mid-way through the session as the Spaniard was thrown into a tank-slapper on the exit of the final corner after the rear-end of his Kalex machine stepped out on the paintwork and re-gripped as it caught the tarmac. Despite his heroics, soon after Canet's near-miss was for nothing as the Spaniard crashed out of the session to remount and crash again later on to finish P13. Filip Salac (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) topped Practice 1 and despite improving his time in P2 fell just short of the top 3 as the Czech rider finished the day in P4. Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) was also setting red sectors and threatening the top positions throughout the session with the Italian setting a time 0.313s away from Lowes to round out the top 5.

Masia steals the show in last-minute P2 charge The Leopard man came from nowhere to lead the way ahead of Sasaki and Artigas as Moto3™ turns to Saturday action Track action stayed dry for the Moto3™ riders and it was a late attack from Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) that saw the Spaniard take Day 1 honours with a 1:41.846. Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna IntactGP) topped Practice 1 and improved his times further in Practice 2 to fall just short of the top spot by 0.137s, with Xavier Artigas (CFMOTO Racing PruestelGP) enjoying Day 1 in Le Mans as he rounded out the top 3. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was the first to make an improvement on his P1 lap time as the Spaniard flew to the top of the combined standings with seventeen minutes to go. The final ten minutes soon came around and fast laps began to fly in from the likes of Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets - MSI). Sasaki then stamped his authority and retook the lead of the session with two back-to-back flyers. Romano Fenati (Rivacold Snipers Team) soon followed as he pulled a lap out of nowhere to join Sasaki and Holgado at the top. The chequered flag came out and it was looking like it was all decided until Masia took 1.6s out of his P1 time to take his Leopard machine to the top. It was a difficult day for the Championship leader Ivan Ortola (Angeluss MTA Team) who found himself in the gravel trap in both practice sessions, but salvaged P7 with a late time attack. Romano Fenati put his name back into the mix once again as he finished the session in P4 ahead of Round 1 victor Daniel Holgado who rounded out the top 5.

Raul Fernandez to miss remainder of French GP The Spaniard completed three laps in MotoGP™ P1 before deciding to withdraw from action after struggling with his right arm
Raul Fernandez (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™ Team) will miss the remainder of the SHARK Grand Prix de France as he continues to recover from right arm pump surgery.
RNF MotoGP Team BREAKING NEWS!
25Raul Fernandez will not continue the FrenchGP. In Practice 1 today, the condition of his right arm doesn’t allow him to ride his Aprilia RS-GP the way he wants to. The Spaniard will now focus to recover for the next round.
The Spaniard underwent surgery on the 4th of May to rectify the difficulties he faced at the Spanish GP last time out. Unfortunately, Fernandez’s right arm hasn’t healed enough for him to be comfortable enough on his RS-GP, so the #25 will take no further part in the action at Le Mans after completing just three laps in Practice 1.
With three weekends off between the French GP and Italian GP, we hope to see Fernandez fully fit and raring to go next time out at Mugello.

"I thought about quitting" – Pol Espargaro Talking to DAZN, the GASGAS Tech3 star opens up about how tough his injury recovery has been and when he aims to be back racing Ahead of the SHARK Grand Prix de France, GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3’s Pol Espargaro took the time to have a catch-up with Spanish MotoGP™ broadcaster DAZN about his ongoing recovery from the injuries he suffered in Portugal. Espargaro posted a video message on social media recently in what was the first time we’d heard from the Spaniard since his Portimao crash. In that, Espargaro revealed the numerous fractures he’d sustained, including in his jaw which meant he couldn’t eat properly or talk for a month. “I lost around nine kilos and the muscle mass that goes with it,” the #44 reiterated to DAZN. In what’s been the toughest moment of his career, with the first four weeks after the crash being “unbearable” when going through the initial recovery stages from his lip, jaw, ribs and vertebrae injuries, Espargaro admits that he’s thought about quitting MotoGP™. “I thought about quitting, these are thoughts I've had... I've had a lot of time to think. Seeing how those around me also suffer, seeing my wife suffer is what made me think about it,” said Espargaro to DAZN. “But she has told me many times that she met me riding, it’s what makes me happy and it makes her happy to see me happy.” Now though, attentions have turned to trying to get back on the bike as soon as possible. The Italian GP at Mugello is the first race that Espargaro sees himself being able to compete at, but there’s no guarantee that’s going to be the case. The good news for Espargaro is there’s a three weekend layoff between the French GP and Italian GP – three crucial weeks for his recovery. “I really want to get on the bike, it's what I get up every day for, it's my fuel. I would like to be back for the Italian GP. Seeing the KTMs working is also what makes me want to come back, in Jerez it was spectacular. I understand that at Le Mans it can be more complicated... And I would like to come back in Italy. “It's a very fast circuit and maybe it's not the best place to come back, but I would like to come back. We'll see, if Dr. Charte gives me the OK, then I'll choose the GP that I think is best for my condition.” Espargaro, who continues to “spend more than four hours a day in a hyperbaric chamber” alongside physiotherapy and having to sleep with equipment to help him recover quicker, also illustrates that missing Jerez and Le Mans have “hurt him the most” – one being his home GP, the other being a track he loves. Here’s hoping that we see the loveable former World Champion back in action at Mugello.

I'm just here to track the Marquez crashes. FWIW I think the Bugatti circuit sucks and lends itself to losing the front.

I'm just here to track the Marquez crashes. FWIW I think the Bugatti circuit sucks and lends itself to losing the front. This track has more crashes per event than any other. But it does have a lot of French drunks revving engines and burning stuff, so there's that. So much for the Kalex chassis.

Mat Oxley: So good to have this guy (Danilo Petrucci) to chat with again, so open. Says his arms are 50mm longer after a day on a MotoGP longer! Every gear you click it's like a turbo, more & more power. Seems unsure if he will continue with WSB in 2024 or focus on Dakar. His weight also an issue in WSB.
