I think Detroit - over both days - showed just how strong the basic tub is on these cars. The number of cars that were involved in relatively hard impact incidents and went tot he pits and returned with new front and rear wings and soldiered on to the finish.

Great weekend. Everything was so clean and nice, almost everyone was very polite and helpful (there were a handful of grouchy ushers who should have stayed in the nursing home). We had a great weekend.
Nice mix of classes, the open paddocks were great. Almost got run over by Hinch on a scooter (he must pay attention to social media). We spent Friday night on Woodward and it was like the stories I heard from the hot rod days. People everywhere, some hanging out, some going from bar to bar. Cars and bikes cruising. It was sure a lot different from the downtown Detroit I visited 20 years ago.
We drove the old US Grand Prix "downtown" circuit while we were there, it's very obvious why CART moved the event to Belle Isle...
Trans Am was great, saw Tony Ave's 100th career win. Nice to see a driver from the "heyday" 80's still getting it. The SCCA still seems to struggle with running a pro series, but the racing was top notch. My sons were confused by the myriad of classes it has, is it oval track late models? Is it Showroom Stock? Which class is here? The identity crisis continues. Another thing, a car hit the tire wall in front of us scattering it into the racing line, and thhey kept racing. When they did throw a caution for another incident, it took 15 minutes for a track crew to come fix it. There was a track crew stationed there for the other races, but only one track crew was active for the Trans Am? Bullshit. At Mid Ohio we were on the ready at our station any time there were cars on the track. Certainly during a race. It didn't matter what class it was. My one gripe from the event.
IMSA was good, I hadn't seen them since the reunification. It was neat seeing Castroneves and Montoya again.
Stone Temple Pilots put on a great show. On some songs, the new singer made it sound like a cover band, on others I could close my eyes and see Scott Weiland singing. Their new shit is good.
IndyCar. I gotta say, street racing is a lot different in person. It's like drag racing, something just doesn't translate well to TV. Race 1 was survival mode, gotta admire the talent it takes to keep the car between the walls. Race two was awesome. One thing about being live you miss out on the pit strategy, but other than that it was a great time.
There was an equal amount of pace car driver jokes and Alonzo jokes in the grandstands. No Corvettes were harmed during the pace laps.

Just keeping it off the walls in those conditions was epic.
