EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS KYLE LARSON SCHEDULED TO RUN IN THE OCTOBER 16-17 DIRT TRACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS KYLE LARSON SCHEDULED TO RUN IN THE OCTOBER 16-17 DIRT TRACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP We just got a phone call from a very good authority that Kyle Larson has pre-registered to run in the $100,000 to win Dirt Track World Championship at Portsmouth Raceway Park. With this being the only $100k to win show of the year, all eyes will be on that fabled little track that sits right in the forefront of the Carl Perkins Memorial Bridge. Kyle Larson brought home a 5th place and a 1st place at the August 27-29 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events at Port Royal Speedway. This was his first time ever behind the wheel of a Late Model. Now he enters another event. With $100k going to the winner, it's a much more high profile event than the $15k event he won at Port Royal, a track in which he was very familiar with. The DTWC has been all Rocket Chassis the past 4 years. They have actually won 5 of the last 7. Here are the results from 2013 to present. 2019 Brandon Sheppard 2018 Josh Richards 2017 Josh Richards 2016 Brandon Sheppard 2015 Scott Bloomquist 2014 Scott Bloomquist 2013 Brandon Sheppard Can a Longhorn Chassis break the Rocket domination here in Portsmouth? There are certainly many stout competitors who will be running Longhorn. With the Dirt Late Model Dream and Dirt Million both being canceled, this year's Dirt Track World Championship will be bigger than ever with it's largest worldwide š audience ever. Will Rocket continue to hold those 4 aces? Will a Bloomquist chassis re-insert itself as a major player at the DTWC? Will Larson put Longhorn at the top of the 2020 headlines? Or will it be another chassis manufacturer breaking into the Rocket/Bloomquist/Longhorn party? Be sure to attend!

We're still waiting in Ohio for the Gov to tell us what percentage of seats can be sold at short tracks and dirt tracks this year.
I use to stop on my way home from work at Akron Rubberducks games and Barberton Speedway but was shut out last year. I want to get to some tracks on my off weekends, but don't want to make the trip and find out they reached their quota.

Horrible accident last night at Berlin Speedway.
MARNE ā Super Late Model drivers Boris Jurkovic and David Fretz were hospitalized Saturday night after a horrific accident at the Berlin Raceway.
Fretz slammed into Boris Jurkovich in turn two of the eveningās first Super Late Model feature race. Both drivers had to be cut from their cars, placed on stretchers and transported via ambulance to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.
*Track officials reported that Jurkovich, who is from the Chicago area, suffered injuries to both of his legs. He was conscious while being removed from his car and his injuries are not considered life threatening.
Speculation is Fretz either had a throttle hang or brake failure. At first the word was he had a heart attack and died, but that was obviously wrong.

Jeff Gordon returns to USAC midgets at IMS Dirt TrackNASCAR Hall of Fame driver Jeff Gordon returned to his racing roots Thursday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, driving exhibition laps in a United States Auto Club Midget car for the first time in 30 years. āI feel like Iāve gone back 25 years,ā said Gordon, 49, after driving a Clauson-Marshall Racing midget at The Dirt Track at IMS to promote the Aug. 18-19 in the Driven2SaveLives BC39 Powered by NOS Energy Drink. āItās been a long time since I was that excited to get behind the wheel of a race car. I canāt believe I waited this long to get back on dirt in a midget,ā added Gordon. āIn another way, Iām very excited that I waited, because itās a cool event, itās a great track, and it just made it very special for me.ā Gordon drove a throwback livery that paid tribute to the iconic white Diet Pepsi car he drove to the 1990 USAC National Midget Series championship. The 1989 USAC National Midget Series Rookie of the Year and 1991 USAC Silver Crown Series champion also adorned a red, white and blue driver suit like he did in 1990. racer.com/2021/06/18/jeff-gordon-returns-to-usac-midgets-at-ims-dirt-track/

Kyle Larson and Brad Sweet are putting this together. They are running during the week so they won't be competing for cars and fans with the World of Outlaws and the 53 year old All Star Series now owned by Tony Stewart. It could work. Those are some big payouts. How will they pay that much at tracks that may hold 5000 fans... Maybe a TV deal is in the works.

Torgerson is reportedly asking if the car will be ready for Saturday night (he won't have medical clearance). I would like the rulemakers to figure how in the hell something like this happened, and have fixes for it before he straps back into a car.

Retired Corvette Racing chief Dan Binks goes dirt racingFor most, retirement means ditching the frenzied pace of a full-time job to relax, slow down, and enjoy the autumn stages of life. This is not the case for Dan Binks. In 2020, after a 38-year career in sports car racing, the Michigan resident walked away from the sport that he had dominated for decades. Rather than slip into an easy chair or steal away to some tropical beach, Binks turned to circle track racing, building engines for sprint car and midget competition. On paper, the move was unexpected. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Binks and his de facto driver Tommy Kendall were unstoppable, first with the Mazda RX-7 GTU program in IMSA and then the Roush Mustang team in Trans Am. The duo piled on the wins. Then, in 2002, after a brief stint in NASCAR, Binks began his tenure at Corvette Racing. Over time, Binks became a face of the franchise. With buckets of bravado topped in a silver buzz cut, he sported just as much American spirit as the yellow Corvettes that he spun wrenches on. In his 18 years with the team, Binks and his team earned countless titles. Sebring and Daytona were personal playgrounds, and overseas the team racked up six victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After so much success delivering wins to teams that turn right and left, why circle track racing, and why now? Binks grew up attending open-wheel dirt shows in California with his father. Visits to the long-gone Ascot Park specifically lit the fuse early on. āI loved dirt,ā says Binks. āBut my expertise came in road racing, so I went and did that.ā He never stopped following the sport, though, and vowed to return in his retirement. Of the countless dirt track races in a calendar year, one in particular stuck out. The Chili Bowl, an indoor dirt race in Tulsa, Oklahoma that could be considered the Daytona 500 of midget competition, was on Binkās bucket list. After he left sports car racing in 2020, he set to working building midget and sprint car engines using a warehouse full of parts he had purchased from Katechāthe long-time engine component supplier for Corvette Racing. LS goodies including āseven or eight $10,000 crankshaftsā that once propelled C5, C6, and C7 race cars to international dominance, now line Binkās personal shelves.
