All I'm reading is more " technical relevance", which will price out more small and midrange teams from contention.
Just the technology of "fuel injection" cost the sport a shit-ton of older fans, the techie fans made fun of the system they used, and cost the teams a truckload of money. End result? It was a bad idea all the way around. And now they're getting deeper.
Now they're talking with Toyota about how to be more relevant to the street car. Last I checked the Camaro and Mustang were still V8 powered rear wheel drive cars. As are all three manufacturer's trucks. Screw Toyota, if they want in, let them build a car like that. You can't change the sport around from what it was and expect all of the fans from the past will follow.
"Hybridisation" is another great example. How many teams can afford that? How many new fans will flock to the ticket booths because they add all this shit that does nothing for performance? There is a practical speed limit the cars can safely go and the've limited the cars to that already. Are Prius drivers going to fill the empty seats caused by NASCAR's meddling with the sport?
THE PRODUCT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. In the NHRA, a 25 foot long car with no body panels or resemblance to anything ever driven on a street, with a 500 cubic inch engine running on nitromethane with a blower is FAR more popular than the Pro Stocks. What would happen if the NHRA decided to make the dragster more relevant to the cars in the parking lot?

THE PRODUCT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. Yet the "fans" think that it is the problem. "fans" have been bitching about the product for years. The Gen 7 isn't going too be a cure all, just like adding more short tracks (see the empty seats and see the Nashville situation). The Gen 7+more short tracks=no magic wand. There are problem with the sport and I have faith Jim France and Steve Phelps will find fixes too those problems. But there are problems that they can't fix and IMHO those problems should be fixed first. And the Organized Outrage Machine is the first and easiest thing too fix.

Meddling with the product is the problem. When I go to dirt tracks, I don't hear people whining about the cars having carburetors and distributors, and bodies that are rough caricatures of a street car. Nobody gives two shits about street relevance. They put on a good show. NASCAR chased racing fans who would never be fans of pony cars and oval track racing. And they got laughed at. And pissed off the long time stock car fan. I hear that at dirt track and short races too, NASCAR lost their soul chasing the dollars. The fans do want more short track races, but you have to be careful who you get in bed with. there are a lot of promoters out there with great ideas and lots of ambition but no money. We need a young Bruton Smith who sees the need for modern short tracks with different shapes and sizes. And for NASCAR to take dates away from old Bruton's cookie cutters. If I hit the lottery I'd build a unique short track with the amenities of Bristol, and an expandable 30,000 seat capacity. And a Mayhem Lounge overlooking turn four with a keg.

Every France that has ran NASCAR chased dollars.

Every France that has ran NASCAR chased dollars. Chasing dollars isn't a bad thing. But you have to know demographics. Chasing away paying customers to reach for fans who hate oval track racing, inexpensive four seater pony cars, and red blooded southerners is not a good idea.

I really didn't care that NASCAR wen too EFI. I really didn't care that NASCAR "modernized" itself. Just put a damn race on and I am happy.

These days I do not even start watching a NASCAR race until the 3rd phase starts. That has become the real race...

There is a practical speed limit the cars can safely go and the've limited the cars to that already. Are Prius drivers going to fill the empty seats caused by NASCAR's meddling with the sport? That's exactly the problem. The speed limit was reached at super-speedways 30 years ago and it's been downhill ever since! Now that they've slowed the cars down across-the-board I've stopped watching entirely!

If they didn't show the numbers, I wouldn't know. I do know what happens when a car gets into the stands. I thank my lucky stars I wasn't on the meat wagon the night the late model went into the crowd at Lorain County Speedway. I'm fine with never seeing that happen.
