Rossi: optimistic for Mugello? I was before the tests "I wasn't as fast as I wanted to be on that occasion". Vinales comforted by the Barcelona test: "we'll get back on top" GPone 30/05/2018 The recent Le Mans podium was definitely not enough for Valentino, who hoped to arrive at his home GP with a very different level of competitiveness. The Doctor has won seven consecutive races at Mugello in the past (from 2002 to 2008 but the last time he reached the podium was in 2015. Rossi hoped to turn things around this year, but recent tests at the Tuscan track have come as something of a cold shower; he knows he'll have to give it his all if he wants a positive result. His 3rd place finish in France ten days ago has at least injected some confidence.. "It's great to have scored a podium in Le Mans, before Mugello. In general it's good to be on the podium before any race, because the ten days before the next race you're not angry. To arrive in Mugello feeling relaxed is better." He needs to stay lucid, but this may not be enough. "I was feeling optimistic about the race in Mugello before the test there a few weeks ago, but during the test we were not as fast as we wanted to be. During this weekend we need to give more. We need to improve the bike and try our best." VINALES: WE'LL GET BACK TO THE TOP - Maverick Vinales is also aware of the technical difficulties that the Yamaha is currently experiencing, but he tries to see the glass half full. Like his (lucky) 2nd place in the championship or the recent Barcelona test, that provided a few answers. “We're working our way through a difficult time. We lost some very important points for the championship in the earlier rounds but, even so, we won't give up and we'll continue working hard to get good results in the races to come. I've climbed up to second in the championship and that motivates me to keep working hard. After the difficult race in Le Mans we went to Montmeló for a test and there I felt good again with my bike, I had good feelings. Step-by-step we will get back to the top." He hopes to start the climb at the Mugello GP. "Mugello is a track that I like and where I've always had a lot of fun, and it's perfect for my riding style. We face the Italian Grand Prix optimistically and eager to find the perfect set-up for our bike. I'll try to fight for the victory, as I've always done in each race. I will give my 100% and will try not to disappoint our fans."

MotoGP bosses tighten electronics noose for 2019 BSN 30.05.2018 MotoGP’s technical bosses have tightening the electronics noose for the 2019 season with a move to unify inertial measurement units. Currently, manufacturers are able to use their own IMUs attached to the spec-Marelli electronics but the ability for electronics engineers to make gains away from the prying eyes of officials is clearly too much to bear for MotoGP, so they’re shutting it down. A new missive from the FIM, at the behest of Dorna, states that the IMU will no longer be exempt from the spec-ECU rules, there will be a clarification of permitted inputs and outputs, a clarification of the CAN communication protcols and an updates layout for the permitted CAN-ECU connections. Detailed explanation

Rossi: Lorenzo at Yamaha? I will stop him, as with Zarco Valentino jokes about Jorge's return: "it would be a tough rival, but so is Johann, I expect Mugello to suffer" Matteo Aglio 31/05/2018 Valentino Rossi has run away with victories at Mugello for about ten years and his eventual success at home would be a party for all Italians. So much so that someone has asked him loudly, so as to forget the political troubles that now torment Italy. " If President Mattarella wants to call me, maybe I can give some advice " he laughed. To then stress immediately, to avoid misunderstanding: " be clear that I'm joking! ". Even at a complicated moment for Yamaha, Mugello's mood is a good mood for the doctor who, on Thursday for the press conference, finds other moments to give a few bars. As when asked what is the opinion on a possible return on the M1 of Lorenzo. " After trying to stop Zarco, I'll do the same with Jorge - he joked - I know Lorenzo well, I've been racing with him for a long time, he's a great driver and I know how strong he is on the Yamaha. If it comes back it will be harder, but on the other hand it is the same even now with Johann. It will change little, when you are in Yamaha you always have very strong teammates or brand, on the one hand they make life harder but on the other hand they give a great motivation ". If he had previously done fantapolitica with Valentino premier, then he made a fancy with an (unlikely) team VR46 with Morbidelli and Lorenzo as pilots. " Franco would do well to drive a Yamaha as well as having Jorge as a teammate, he could learn a lot from him. I Lorenzo's team manager? That's better than not, at this point I'm the premier "he ended with a laugh. Good humor is a precious ally, but certainly not enough for Valentino who is aware of having to face complicated days. " At the moment our potential is not what it takes to win, I expect a weekend in which there will be suffering - he admitted - I will give my best and even more, because I'm in the home GP, I hope I can fight for the podium would already be a great goal " . Mugello has been a territory of conquest in the past for the Doctor, but for some years the situation has changed. " I won 9 times here, it's a fantastic track - he recalled - When I went in 500 the start was complicated: once I crashed and the other rained. Then I started winning and I did it 7 times in a row. In the second part of my career it was more difficult, and misfortune also got in the way. In 2016 I had the chance to win but I broke the engine, last year I got a little bit broken ". After a fall training with the cross bike. This time at least Rossi is in perfect shape. " It's certainly better - he continued - I get a podium at Le Mans, but I'll have to understand my potential on this track. The tests were not fantastic, but we had not found perfect conditions and it rained in the afternoon. Let's see what will happen ".

Jorge Lorenzo’s break-up with Ducati is a present for Yamaha May 25 2018 PAOLO GOZZI Bike and Race.com Jorge Lorenzo is done (?)…people say all sort of silly things under the umbrella of MotoGP media. We are talking about the only rider who managed, at least once, to take the World Championship title away from Marc Marquez since this phenomenal rider entered the top class. Ducati, on the other hand, only won this title once, back in 2003 when Casey Stoner got the title. Then nothing. This will be the most expensive break-up in the MotoGP history (25 million euros), and it will be paid by the Reds. After the thoughtless words of Ducati’s CEO Claudio Domenicali, what’s now waiting for the company is not only 14 GPs with Lorenzo just waiting to fulfill his contract’s duty but also the fact that they are giving up their big shot to their main opponent… A RESCUE OPERATION – “Jorge Lorenzo risks to be left empty-handed”. Nonsense! The Majorcan rider will not only keep on racing as nothing happened, but he will also go back with Yamaha that so far allowed him to win three (not one, three…) MotoGP World Championship. To make him fit enough to fight for the title, major leading figures are moving: first of all, Dorna. Why? Easy to say, Lorenzo is not only the perfect anti-Marquez (thinking about palmarès) but he is also one of the most influential riders on the media. He is one of those riders you can either love or hate, but who will never leave you indifferent. The MotoGP boss, Carmelo Ezpeleta, doesn’t want (and especially can’t afford) to lose such a ride; that’s why he decided to take the matter into his own hands. A HARD PUNCH – Throwing Lorenzo out, Ducati is actively assisting Yamaha giving them back the only rider who managed to win the World Championship for them in the past 10 years. This way Yamaha is fixing its own goal, made when they let Johann Zarco go. With Valentino Rossi turning 40 and a Maverick Viñales with no victories in the last 12 months, Yamaha was risking having no new aces in the pack for the 2019 MotoGP World Championship. Jorge Lorenzo will definitely be theirs! Thanks, Ducati…

2018 Mugello MotoGP FP1 Result: Iannone Steals Pirro’s Thunder
Zara Daniela on Fri, 2018-06-01
Friday morning in Mugello saw the splendid scenery covered by a sheet of low clouds, although the track kept dry for the duration of the session. The low grip took a few people by surprise and plenty of front tyres were tortured but the top of the timesheets were a very patriotic display. Local expert Michelle Pirro perhaps unsurprisingly led the way after the first run and the Italian was unchallenged at the top until compatriot Andrea Iannone brandished a new rear soft tyre and blasted ahead by half a second.
The Italian top three was completed by Andrea Dovizioso, seven tenths down on the leader and a more realistic two tenths behind his temporary teammate. Maverick Viñales crashed in turn one on his first lap of the day and the extra trip through the pits lost him some track time but the Spaniard still found his way into fourth position.
Iannone was not the only one to put himself in the shop window in Mugello, Jack Miller also boasting with speed in fifth place, posting the exact same time as the reigning world champion. Marc Marquez lingered in a subdued sixth position but less than a tenth of a second separated him from Dovizioso’s third spot.
The rest of the top ten – positions seven to ten – were also a close knit affair. Franco Morbidelli seemed to have made significant progress on home turf to join the top seven in the session, followed by mentor Valentino Rossi, possible future teammate Jorge Lorenzo and a recovering Cal Crutchlow, the four men nine tenths down on the leader but separated by a mere two hundredths of a second.
Johann Zarco was one full second off Iannone’s laptime, but only half a second slower if you consider Pirro’s more realistic indicator of pace. The Frenchman knocked on the doors of the top ten together with Alex Rins, Danilo Petrucci and the Espargaro brothers, Dani Pedrosa a few places lower down in 17th.

2018 Mugello MotoGP FP2 Result: Red Flags And Red Hot Laps for Iannone
Zara Daniela on Fri, 2018-06-01
The cloudy afternoon in Mugello got more gloomy shortly after the start of the session, the red flag coming out for a heavy crash for Michelle Pirro in turn one. The Italian was said to be conscious and moving by the time he was picked up by an ambulance and the session was restarted with 28 minutes on the clock and with Andrea Iannone leading. The Suzuki man manged to sneak in a lap to improve his time at the top of the timesheets before another red flag was caused by another Ducati. Soon after beating the top speed record, Andrea Dovizioso’s engine called it quits in turn one and spit up some flames to go with the bit of oil it left on track.
Once the session restarted for the final 22 minutes, Marc Marquez continued with a troublesome session of his own, the Spaniard having tumbled in the gravel trap in turn four on cold hard tyres before the second red flag. Whether it was because the weather or the crash, the world champion slipped on a medium front-soft rear combination for his last run and swiftly picked up the lead of the session. The Repsol rider’s position looked secure until some new sets of softs went in for his rivals in the final five minutes. Maverick Viñales was the first to attack but Iannone had none of it, making light work of traffic on his fast lap to be the only rider to get into the 1:46s, leaving the Yamaha man nearly four tenths behind.
With Viñales in a pleasantly surprising (for his side of the garage) second position, Marquez settled for third, another tenth down. Johann Zarco no longer had the responsibility of carrying the flag for Yamaha but he did a reasonable job in fourth place, six tenths down on Iannone. Jack Miller continued a consistent performance throughout Friday with a fifth place, only just sneaking ahead of Cal Crutchlow and Valentino Rossi.
After an excellent FP1, Franco Morbidelli managed to hang on to the back of Marquez on a hot lap and climbed into third position provisionally, eventually being dropped down to eight after some late improvers posted their times. Danilo Petrucci and Jorge Lorenzo completed the top ten as the final two riders within a second of Iannone.
After his eventful session, Dovizioso failed to improve on his second bike and dropped down to 12th, narrowly ahead of Dani Pedrosa, the veteran duo potentially in trouble if summer rain finally hits FP3.

2018 Mugello Moto2 FP1 Result: Fast Start For Marquez
Zara Daniela on Fri, 2018-06-01
The intermediate class danced their first tango of the weekend in Mugello and it brought nothing new to the routine. Alex Marquez established himself as the early leader and came under friendly(ish) fire in the final time attack from teammate Joan Mir. The younger Marquez came out on top, ending the session with a three tenths advantage on his pursuers.
Sam Lowes snuck into the mix in the final part of FP1 and climbed into second, only three hundredths of a second ahead of Miguel Oliveira, who managed to keep close to the leaders throughout the session. Mir is undeniably the man of the moment, in the media at least, the Spaniard settling for fourth on his first outing in Mugello.
Lorenzo Baldassarri kept in touch with his main rivals from fifth position, four tenths down on the leader, with Marcel Schrotter close behind in sixth. The championship leader was the last man within half a second of Marquez, Pecco Bagnaia ending his morning seventh.
Andrea Locatelli and Hector Barbera were surprisingly close to the SKY rider, with Romano Fenati completing the top ten but eight tenths of a second keeping him away from the top of the timesheets. Jorge Navarro posted a similar time just outside the top ten, with the rest of the challengers over a second slower than Marquez, including Mattia Pasini in 17th position and Xavi Vierge in 19th.
