MArk: “The song is about perseverance, aspiration, and determination with a Champ car racing theme. Many of the tracks on the CART circuit are mentioned in the song, including Nazareth in the final verse.”
He also added: “I actually wrote the song in the early 1990s. It was set ahead in time and that’s why it refers to 2001 as being in the future. The song was born mostly out of conversations with my friend (former CART and Formula One driver) Stefan Johansson.”

He's an awesome guitarist. I saw him playing with Eric Clapton in Orange County, CA about 1988 I think, Aw man - I think I hate you (just kidding)... He's played at Tanglewood in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts - where the Boston Symphony Orchestra goes in the summer... Of course I missed him, but a buddy (and fellow guitar player) who lives out there saw Knopfler and said, "He's one of those guys who makes you want to smash your guitar up and use it for firewood..." Also kind of cool is the fact that Nazareth is the home of Martin guitars...

Being the home of Martin Guitars is also the reason Robbie Robertson of The Band chose Nazareth PA as the town in The Weight.

^ From the front, it looks sort of like a motorcycle with the operator and steering wheel in the sidecar... Very strange...

Oh to be old enough to have seen Indy when it was open rules... Be careful what you wish for - old age sucks... I hit the double nickel this year, and have more doctors than friends all of a sudden. I kind of remember the open Indy 500's, but being in a stock car family it was the only time we watched open wheel.

27 years ago. The time goddam flies ... Great pass, but in my opinion, it wasn’t legal.

^ exceeded track limits. Doesn’t matter if he didn’t gain a position, it allowed him to keep one. Any legitimate sanctioning body would see it this way. That is why the rule was changed following the race because officials new it was bs and short cutting the course.

This weekend there is a reunion of many of AAR/Dan Gurney's Eagle Indy cars at Road America. Justin Gurney along with others have posted a number of videos on Facebook of the cars there. Here's one that's about 28 minutes long.
Other videos can be found posted to the Dan Gurney/AAR fan page on Facebook
Also there are Dan's 1967 Belgian Grand Prix winning F1 eagle, an Eagle Formula Ford and the all conquering Eagle-Toyota Mark lll GTP car of Juan Fangio ll and P J Jones.
PS ... anyone can see who is in the group and what they post, but you must apply for membership to have any posts stay there.
