Trans Am to stream nine 2020 races via new media app Racer Feb 29 2020 The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli will elevate its global coverage with live streaming video starting from the season opener at Sebring International Raceway on March 1. Partnering with global media technology leader NAGRA (the digital TV division of the Kudelski Group), Trans Am is rolling out a full-service digital media platform that will feature full live videos of Trans Am race events as well as select qualifying sessions. In combination with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), a minimum of nine national Trans Am events will be live streamed, featuring both 100-mile races each weekend. The move to bring the Trans Am action to an international audience in real time follows the series’ successful first phase of the digital roll-out last season in partnership with GreenLight.TV, which has been renewed ahead of 2020 to expand its programming platform. This move comes following the development of successful media partnerships with RACER and Sunday Group Management that debuted in 2019 and will continue in 2020 and beyond. “Greenlight is delighted to renew its partnership with Trans Am for another three years and very excited, not only to continue to provide high quality post-produced content, but also to be able to bring live coverage back into the equation,” said GreenLight.TV producer Lauren Roberts. “We look forward to developing this with Trans Am in the coming months and years.” The announcement not only means that the series will be streamed, but the move to the new platform will also deploy several innovative and fan-focused features, including exclusive technology to watch from any camera angle as well as fully produced race streams by GreenLight with live commentary from Jonathan Green. Streaming will be available via Trans Am by Pirelli Racing app, which will also integrate live scoring, race highlights, post-race highlights, full race replays, race results and series, team and driver news. Fans will be taking part in a live trial of ground-breaking technology, providing fans, officials and sponsors with exciting new capabilities such as “Sporfie,” which that allows fans to become armchair directors, instantly capturing their preferred moments during the events and share them immediately via text or social media. Additionally, the Video Assisted Referee (VAR) portion of the app will provide improved visual content for Trans Am stewarding and coaching staff to utilize visual evidence for rapid and well-informed decisions from race control with instant access to video. The Trans Am by Pirelli Racing app is customizable for sponsors’ logo placement on live video streams, replays and even on the moments captured by fans. Additionally, banners can be placed within the app allowing for promotional clips prior to the live video stream. “As the media landscape is more polarized than ever around the top 50 sporting events and leagues worldwide, NAGRA’s cloud-based video content management technologies and services, combined with appropriate business models will enable Trans Am Race Company to deliver a new level of engagement to its fans equal to those at the highest level,” said Jean-Luc Jezouin, SVP Sales Development for NAGRA. “We’re delighted to be part of this new journey with SVRA and Trans Am. The free trial of the Trans Am by Pirelli app will be available for download on IOS or Android starting today. The app is available for download here: Android Apple

Francis Jr dominates Sebring Trans Am opener; Joiner wins XGTImages by Chris Clark Racer Mar 1 2020 Ernie Francis Jr. kept the action in his rear-view mirror Sunday at Sebring International Raceway, beginning his quest for a seventh-consecutive Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli title with a flag-to-flag victory in Sunday’s 2020 season-opening race. Driving the No. 98 One South Florida Wealth Advisor Ford Mustang, Francis was joined on the podium by Tomy Drissi in the No. 8 Lucas Oil Chevrolet Camaro, followed by Amy Ruman in the No. 23 McNichols Co. Chevrolet Corvette. Erich Joiner became the first winner in the new Trans Am XGT class, taking sixth overall in the No. 10 Championship Coffees and Tool Porsche 911 GT3 R. SGT went to Lee Saunders in the No. 84 Landsearch LLC Dodge, while Steve Davison led GT in the No. 22 Davinci Plastic Surgery Aston Martin Vantage. “My team gave me a great car, and it was fast right off the trailer,” said the 22-year-old Francis, who took his 20th overall (and 44th career) Trans Am victory. “We had the pace all the way to win this race. It was awesome for the first race weekend of 2020, and I can’t wait for the rest of the season. My new sponsor — One South Florida Wealth Advisors — was here supporting me all weekend. This was a great event, and now I can’t wait to get to Road Atlanta.” Francis led from the pole and managed to pull away on two restarts, with the race ending under the checkered flag due to a late incident. Humaid Al Masaood (No. 21 Mustang) and Simon Gregg (No. 59 Corvette) rounded out the top five. The race featured a pair of charges from the back of the TA grid by Drissi and Chris Dyson. Drissi experienced transmission troubles in qualifying on Saturday and gridded 11th for the season opener. Launching from the back to a podium finish also earned Drissi the Cool Shirt “Cool Move of the Race” award. “I tried to use some wise aggression to move up from the start,” said Drissi. “We had gremlins in qualifying, so I had to baby the car a little bit. I had a good battle with Adam Andretti and Chris Dyson, I’m sorry they weren’t able to finish the race. I want to say that the SGT and GT class drivers did an awesome job in the traffic, and it is great to be up here with two champions, Amy (Ruman) and Ernie (Francis Jr.).” Dyson, Andretti and Francis Jr. battle early on. Dyson joined Drissi on the back row due to a hard impact hit in Saturday morning practice. After the CD Racing squad labored through the night to be ready to race, Dyson was ready to repay that work with a big result. Passing seven cars on the opening lap, Dyson was quickly up to third. On Lap 7, Dyson made a bid for the lead on a restart following a brief caution, going three wide in an attempt to get by Francis and Andretti. Dyson came up short but continued to run in podium position until his day came to an end when he pulled off just past the midway point. “After that restart, the engine note was not the same and it was just off a bit,” Dyson said. “So I was just trying to get it home to get points. I’m really happy for (CD Racing teammate) Humaid Al Masaood to get fourth. Great consistency from him and we got a top-five out of it. This was a monumental effort (from his team to have the car ready to go), it was a tough weekend, but we will focus on the positives from the weekend.” The caution waved for a second time on Lap 20, when several cars went off in Turn 6, with the No. 41 PF Racing Ford Mustang of James Pesek coming to a stop. Under the caution, Andretti retired the second-place No. 43 ECC Anchor Bolt & Screw Dodge Challenger due to mechanical issues. Daniel Urrutia Jr. also went out with a clutch issue on top-five running No. 3 Ferrea Racing/SAENZ/Mustang Vac Chevrolet Corvette. The second caution set up a potential five-lap shootout to the checkered flag, with Ruman challenging Drissi for second. However, a race-ending caution arrived moments later when Tim Kezman crashed in the final turn in the No. 44 Lemons of Love Porsche 991 Porsche GT3 Cup while battling for the SGT lead. Jon Leavy in the No. 18 info@morprinting.com Chevrolet Camaro took the Masters Award in the TA class after a solid seventh-place finish. Erich Joiner became the first XGT class winner. Joiner took sixth overall in winning XGT. Mark Montour finished second in the XGT class with the No. 27 Montour Ltd Aston Martin Vantage GT3, followed by Ken Thwaits in the No. 5 Franklin Road Apparel Audi Ro GT3 Ultra. “I spent hours on the simulator before coming here,” Joiner said. “I thought I could get it down quickly, but I was shocked when I got here. It’s very technical in the slow stuff, and it’s extremely fast in the first and last turns. I was blown away, and every lap was a learning experience. It was like going to school for me this weekend. “I have to say, the whole Trans Am group and the way they put this on, and all the fans — it was a great weekend. Just driving around on the cool-down lap, there were fans all around the track standing up on motorhomes and clapping and waving. It was a fantastic race and experience.” Saunders added to his Sebring success as he prevailed in SGT competition, followed by Mark Boden in the No. 46 Beverage Flavors International Porsche 991.3 GT3 Cup and Adrian Wlostowski in the No. 96 F.A.S.T. Auto Racing Ford Mustang, who scored his first career podium finish despite a fire only 10 minutes prior to the call to the grid. Another class victory for Lee Saunders. “It looked like it was going to be a shootout at the end,” Saunders said. “I was extremely worried, because Tim [Kezman] was strong. We were trading the lead several times, and he was wearing me out. Mark [Boden] was right there, too. I was scared we were going to go green again, and I would be right back in the trap. I hope we can win some more, but I’m sure Mark will get the best of me more than I will him.” Larry Bailey in the No. 02 LogicalSystems/SamPierceChevy Chevrolet Corvette received the SGT Masters Award. An Aston Martin took victory in GT, thanks to Steve Davison. In GT, Davison took advantage of Tim Horrell’s late misfortunes to win the opener. “I have to thank Automatic Racing, because I broke my car,” Davison said. “So right now I’m on borrowed time, borrowed money and a borrowed car. Great start to the season, I really appreciate Trans Am and the awesome crowd support.” He was followed by Billy Griffin in the No. 14 Griffin Auto Care/Sheenan’s Towing Ford Mustang. Horrell led the opening half of the race before pulling off in the No. 45 Breathless Racing Porsche GT4 Clubsport, finishing third in the class. Next up for the Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli is Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on Sunday, March 29.

Riverside Raceway resurrected for next Trans Am Esports roundAfter taking a weekend off in observance of Memorial Day, a venerable American series will write a new chapter at a long-lost circuit when the Trans Am presented by Pirelli Esports Championship returns to action at a virtual Riverside International Speedway Saturday, May 30 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The track has been gone for more than 30 years, but will be injected with a new life as drivers get to experience the famously dusty Southern California track on virtual terms. Drivers will continue to race identically prepared Corvette C7.r GTLM machines hosted on the ‘World’s Fastest Gamer — SIM edition’ JV with Torque Esports and Assetto Corsa for Round 5 of the Esports championship as the series visits a legendary facility. Fans can stream the action on the Trans Am by Pirelli Racing app. The live stream will also be available on the series Facebook and YouTube channels, as well as UMG TV Esports Network on Mobile (IOS and Android), Apple TV, Fire TV and ROKU.
Great, great road course ...

I'm hoping this is about real race cars and not that video game shit. Ave scores TA pole in the wet at Mid-Ohio Racer June 26 2020 Veteran Tony Ave mastered changing conditions to score his 38th career pole in Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli completion, leading Friday’s qualifying at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Ave will lead the field of 24 competitors in the TA, XGT. SGT and GT classes in Saturday’s 45-lap race, set to take the green flag at 1:35 p.m. ET. The race will be streamed live on the Trans Am by Pirelli app, as well as on the series Facebook and YouTube pages. Driving the No. 4 Lamers Motor Racing Corvette, the 51-year-old Ave turned a lap of 2m02.728s on the 15-turn, 2.4-mile circuit. The TA competitors were gridded for the 15-minute session on slick tires, when rain began to fall on the circuit. Most drivers changed to Pirelli wets before their first lap, but Ave gambled with the slicks. It only took him one lap before he made his way back to the pits to make the switch to rain tires. Ave went off track on his first lap out, and then ran his pole-winning lap in the rain. “The qualifying session was very slick,” Ave said. “I was hoping it was dry enough on the back to use slick tires but I couldn’t even keep it on the road. We switched to rain tires and were able to get a good lap in. This morning we found an electrical issue so the car doesn’t run well on the straightaway. With the rain, it has not affected us as much. It will be fixed for tomorrow and we will see how we do. It feels great to be back in a Trans Am car and kick off the weekend with a pole.” Ave’s time was well off Lawrence Loshak’s track record of 1m21.613s, set in 2018 in a Camaro. Ave will be joined on the front row by Tomy Drissi, who ran a quick time of 2m02.728s in the No. 8 Lucas Oil Chevrolet Camaro. Making up the second row will be Simon Gregg in the No. 59 Derhaag Motorsports Camaro at 2m03.078s, and Chris Dyson, 2m03.872s in the No. 20 Plaid Ford Mustang. Ernie Francis Jr. – going for his seventh consecutive Mid-Ohio victory – rallied late in the session to move from 12th fastest with one minute remaining to score fifth on the grid with this third and final lap of 2m06.145s in the No. 98 One South Florida Wealth Advisors Mustang “We had some issues with switching to tires that we have not run on the car in a long time, if ever,” said Francis, who won at Mid-Ohio in all six of his championship seasons. “We ran into an issue that we didn’t expect that took us a long time to figure out, which ran out the clock for getting a good qualifying lap. It is what it is and that type of thing happens in racing sometimes. Starting the race tomorrow in the top five allows me to make a race out of it as I work my way to the front.” The SGT, XGT and GT competitors held separate qualifying following the TA drivers, with lightning halting the session prior to the scheduled 15 minutes. Mark Brummond won the SGT pole with a lap of 2m08.845s in the No. 24 Garage Door/Dynamic Auto Tune BMW M4 GT4. Making his first Trans Am start in his first visit to the circuit, Brummond managed to out-qualify the faster XGT cars. “I was able to get in six or seven laps before it got too crazy, but I absolutely love racing in the rain,” said Brummond, a 2018 pole winner in Pirelli World Challenge competition. “I always do well I the rain, and getting the lucky draw of my best environment for me in my first race with Trans Am is awesome to be the fastest car on the track. My first qualifying was phenomenal. Mid-Ohio is a great track that I love in the dry and wet. We had fun today, and I look forward to the race tomorrow.” Sebring winner Lee Saunders was second, at 2m14.847s in the No. 84 Landsearch LLC Dodge Viper, followed by New York City driver Adrian Wlostoski, 2m26.516s in the No. 96 F.A.S.T. Auto Racing Mustang. Tim Horrell captured his second-consecutive pole

Francis Jr, Skeen, pole winners for Brainerd Copham Tribute races Racer July 19 2020 Ernie Francis Jr. and Mike Skeen set the fastest times, securing pole to lead their respective Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli fields for the main events in the Ryan Companies US presents Jed Copham Tribute Race Weekend at Brainerd International Raceway. Francis Jr., the six-time Trans Am champion and 2016 Brainerd winner put his No. 98 One South Florida Wealth Advisors Ford Mustang atop the TA-class timesheets with less than two minutes remaining in the 20m session with a lap of 1m27.191s. His Breathless Racing crew opted to hold their driver in the pits until very late in the session, giving him a gap and clear track behind his competitors. “It’s nice to be back at Brainerd,” Francis Jr. said. “We were trying to wait for a clear track. We went out on the first couple of laps to get a clear track without anyone out in front of us. We were able to do that again (near the end of the session) and walked away with the pole.” Francis Jr.’s 46th-career Trans Am pole came at the expense of Tomy Drissi (Lucas Oil Chevrolet Camaro) who was at the top at the five-minute mark. His 1m 28.261s best secured his front-row start. “I was looking forward to the pole, but we still scored a couple extra points in second,” said Drissi. “We have some work to do if Ernie (Francis Jr.) could do that on a slick hot track. They have a good car. Hopefully tomorrow we can find that little something we are missing and go to battle.” Drissi, who has seven career poles in Trans Am plus another five in the Trans Am West Coast series, last raced at Brainerd in 2010, finishing second in a Jaguar. “Brainerd is really amazing,” he said. “It is fast. It is sweeping. It is smart. It is challenging. It’s a perfect storm with the Trans Am track. Drivers have to think of everything here. We’re thinking of [late track owner] Jed [Copham], his wife Kristi and their kids; we are all thinking about how great this track is. I barely recognized it when I came in. It is way better than it was 10 years ago.” Two-time Brainerd winner Amy Ruman was third fastest with a 1m29.144s flyer set early in the session. “It felt good to be back at Brainerd,” said Ruman, who won here in 2012 and 2015. “It got a little hot this afternoon, and we had that black flag during qualifying that messed up the rhythm a little. Luckily, we got going early on and laid down a pretty good lap. “We are happy with P3,” Ruman continued. “It’s been awhile since we’ve been up there in qualifying. I’m really excited to get the No. 23 McNichols Co. Chevrolet Corvette back up there, and I’m looking forward to the race on Sunday.” Ruman will be joined on the second row by Chris Dyson (1m29.223s) in the No. 20 Plaid Ford Mustang. Shortly after Drissi took the provisional pole, the black flag waved following a spin with contact in Turn 8 involving Kerry Hitt’s Advanced Composite Products Cadillac CTS-V. The track returned to green with four minutes remaining, opening the door for Francis. TA2 powered by AEM: Skeen on a roll Mike Skeen turned a late-session lap of 1m30.853s in the No. 77 Liqui Moly Camaro to lead the 15-car TA2 powered by AEM field in a 20-minute session slowed by a pair of black flags for incidents. Skeen’s immaculate Stevens-Miller Camaro claimed its second 2020 pole. It was the second pole of the campaign for Skeen, who shattered the Sebring track mark in qualifying for the 2020 season opener to win his first pole since 2010 at Road Atlanta. “It’s been fun, I enjoyed picking up the track,” Skeen said. “It’s a real fast place. It’s been a good challenge. I’m really excited to get the Liqui Moly Camaro back on the pole. Looking to come back strong here, get some points and build on that championship lead.” Skeen said that his early runs were marred by traffic or black flags. “With five minutes to go after the last caution, my goal was to just get out there with the fastest out lap that I could do to get a timed lap in,” Skeen said. “That was strong enough.” Skeen will be joined on the front row by Thomas Merrill (1m31.211s) in the Diehl-Merrill Racing / HP Tuners / Mike Cope Racing Ford Mustang. Sharing row two are Scott Lagasse (M1 Racecars Camaro), 1m31.238s, and Rafa Matos (Silver Hare Racing Camaro), 1m31.844s. Cameron Lawrence’s crew discovered a broken rear wing on his 3-Dimensional Service Group Ford Mustang on the pre-grid. Lawrence planned to pit after one lap per the rules for the team to correct the problem, but he crashed on his first lap, causing rear-end damage and triggering the first of two black flags. Second-generation driver Dylan Archer – who won at the virtual Spa with an impressive run in the inaugural Trans Am by Pirelli Esports Championship held during the COVID-19 layoff – qualified 11th for his Trans Am debut in the ForgeLine Wheels Camaro. XGT: Second consecutive pole for Thwaits Ken Thwaits captured his second-consecutive XGT pole, running 1m29.289s in the No. 5 Franklin Road Apparel Audi R8 GT3 Ultra. First visit to Brainerd for Thwaits who easily qualified on the XGT pole. “It’s my first time here and I love it now,” Thwaits said. “I’ve heard stories about how fast it is and it kind of freaked me out. (But) I like fast circuits and so does the Audi. We just adapted. We had a game plan in going into testing, practice and then qualifying. Happy to take that pole position and the extra three points.” Thwaits’ Showtime Motorsports Audi teammate Kevin Long was second with a 1m33.259s. SGT: Ninth career pole for Saunders Sebring winner Lee Saunders captured his ninth career pole to lead the SGT competitors, turning a best lap of 1m32.641s in the Landsearch LLC Dodge Viper. He will be joined on the front row by Aaron Pierce (Logical Systems / Sam Pierce Chevrolet Corvette), 1m35.152s . Currently second in the SGT points, Adrian Wlostowski blew the engine in his F.A.S.T. Auto Ford Mustang during Thursday testing and failed to qualify. Undeterred, his crew trailered his GT-1 spec Corvette 800 miles from New York City to Minnesota. Wlostowski borrowed tires and additional parts to make the Corvette SGT spec. He is coming off a career-best second in the recent round at Mid-Ohio.
