I probably worded this incorrectly. Not his fault as in taking blame, but he had to have considered this scenario when he took the outside in a corner like that at a time like that knowing that the guy has a wounded front wing. It was perhaps not a super wise decision. p2p - suggest you watch a replay of the Mid-Ohio IndyCar race to begin to understand how passing takes place in racing. If you don't jump all over the opportunities you have you go to the back very quickly. Without drivers taking the opportunities that present themselves you end up with the parades F1 is known for. That may be, but when everyone watching, including Daniel's boss, can see the crash coming for miles then perhaps that wasn't the best time. He was going to easily pass him soon. The place was his. And he wasn't going to catch Kimi ahead and no one was going to catch them from behind. Fourth place was easily his. He took the risk and it bit him. He is lucky he finished the race. My point is that this opportunity wasn't a one-time deal. It was there for the taking. But it's no skin off my ass; it's kind of fun to watch carbon fiber fly.

As a driver you can only take the opportunities - as they present themselves. For a variety of reasons, you cannot expect any opportunity the present itself in the future; if you don't take advantage of it 'NOW' that opportunity may NEVER present itself again. You 'theory' of racing is what makes F1 a parade. Hungary is one of the tracks where overtaking has a degree of difficulty that rivals Monaco. If you don't utilize your overtaking opportunities when they present themselves and only hope that the car ahead of you has some form of mechanical situation that lets you by in a uncontested manner - YOU ARE NO LONGER A RACING DRIVER. My 6 year old granddaughter is racing 1/4 Midgets. As a driver she is less than 0.1 second off the track record for her class and faster by far than the drivers she is competing against. As a racer she hasn't comprehended what she has to do to pass slower cars - yet. Being fastest from Qualifying, she starts from the back of the pack and then falls back. Right now she is a good driver and a bad racer who doesn't want to take any chances.

I literally fell asleep during this race. I woke up with about 10 laps to go. I think I saw the only exciting thing that happened.

Not his fault as in taking blame, but he had to have considered this scenario when he took the outside in a corner like that at a time like that knowing that the guy has a wounded front wing. It was perhaps not a super wise decision. Looking to take over Toto's position? You're definitely in the running! Noted that Bottas was "hurt" when that SKY woman interviewer mentioned to him after quali that he was Hammy's wingman. That's the first time he has said that and I find it interesting that Toto made that same reference after the race. That has to have really rankled him, hence the "talk" he (Bottas) wants to have with him. But everybody knows that'll be utterly fruitless. I can see Toto holding up Bottas' contract and waving it while laughing at him as Bottas demands the right to race Hambone fair and square. Cue the Vincent Price maniacal laugh as he throws his head back and howls! Valtteri became unglued here in Budapest I believe, as he's had a history of giving away positions that he's been criticized for relinquishing. Couple the pressure he's under from the team as well as to a lesser degree the entire paddock, the pressure he no doubt has put upon himself and the fact that he desperately wants to race Lewis no holds barred. We only saw the briefest of that at Hockenheim before he was told to hold position. I was hoping to see a real fight with Lulu, kind of what Rosberg would have done. And that has had an emasculating effect upon him. He's had to have an incredible amount of patience and self-control to stifle his emotions and more importantly his ambitions. Make no mistake, he was definitely forcing the issue with Vettel and Daniel and was wrong both times. Fortunately he only hurt himself. You can see him trying to drive on straight at the apex to force Vettel off. The sporting thing is to turn in and make the overtaking driver go around you on the outside while giving him the room to do so, not forcing him off. Unfortunately we've seen this tactic employed by several of the drivers over the past years. I hope that Valtteri is able to emulate Rosberg to the detriment of Hamilton. For the sake of his own psychology and career, he really needs to develop that killer instinct if he is going to step up to the level of a legitimate champion. Would Toto approve? Only if he saw a legitimate force capable of unsettling and unseating Hamilton.
