2024 Catalunya World Supersport Superpole Result: Red Flags, Yellow Flags, Green Paint By Jared Earle | Fri, 22/Mar/2024
World Supersport opened the Superpole session with its first appearance of Raffaele De Rosa on the Chinese QJ Motor. Laps would be set, laps would be cancelled.
Adrian Huertas opened the timing with a 1'45.856 benchmark but Stefano Manzi moved it to a 1'45.725 with Can Oncu quickest after the first timed lap. De Rosa on the QJ Motor 800 was outside the 108% after the first lap, but on his second lap, he redeemed himself. Nikki Tuuli set the quickest second lap until Stefano Manzi improved with a 1'45.508. Manzi posted a 1'45.385 before pitting in after five laps for the mid-qualifying tea break.
Can Oncu let the pits early, having just recorded three laps in his first stint, and set a 1'44.777 that was deleted by a yellow flag for a crash from Federico Caricasulo. A quick 1'45.162 later put him back on top.
Adrian Huertas in his second stint set a 1'44.658 with nineteen minutes remaining, just before Bahattin Sofuoglu through out the red flags with a crash at turn one upsetting the track conditions.
After the long delay, qualifying resumed and Can Oncu set a 1'44.471 with two and a half minutes left to put himself in provisional pole position, but Adrian Huertas set a 1'44.436 followed by a 1'44.197 at the flag and took pole position from him.
After two pages of yellow flag and green paint lap cancellations, Adrian Huertas took pole position ahead of Can Oncu and Stefano Manzi, with a third of a second covering the front row.

Aegerter leaves it late to claim top spot in FP3, Bulega P7 with Bautista out of the top ten Saturday, 23 March 2024 The Swiss rider set the fastest lap of the weekend to claim P1 on Saturday morning as Yamaha riders showed strong pace Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was the fastest rider in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship as Saturday’s action got underway with Free Practice 3. His lap time was the fastest of the 2024 Pirelli Catalunya Round so far as the #77 showed his hand at the end of the 20-minute session, denying Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) top spot after he had been there throughout FP3 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Riders headed out as soon as the green lights went on with Petrucci surging to P1 in the early stages, posting a 1’40.816s to set the fastest lap of the weekend before it was beaten in the closing stages. After seemingly making a breakthrough with softer tyres in the Supported Test, ‘Petrux’ has been fast across the weekend so far and seems to be in contention for success. His time looked like it would be good enough for first, but a late lap from Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) moved him to P1. He set a 1’40.695s to claim top spot, 0.121s ahead of Petrucci while Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) was third. ‘Loka’ opted to sit in the box for the first six and a half minutes before taking to the track. Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) followed a similar plan, going out later in the session and setting his best time – a 1’40.989s – towards the end of the 20-minute session. Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) claimed fifth, exactly four tenths back from Aegerter, with Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) the lead BMW rider in sixth. Friday pacesetter Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) was seventh and the highest-placed rider in FP3 to not improve compared to yesterday’s times. He was a tenth ahead of Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) in eighth, with two BMWs in the top ten, while Philipp Oettl (GMT94 Yamaha) made a massive step to claim ninth on Saturday morning. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) completed the top ten with Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) 11th after a strong FP2. Like his teammate, the #1 didn’t improve his lap time in FP3. The top six from FP3, full results here: 1. Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) 1’40.695s 2. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) +0.121s 3. SCRIPT OUT THE WINDOW: Toprak stuns for new lap record as BMW riders take fight to Ducati Saturday, 23 March 2024 The first ever WorldSBK lap in the 1’39s was completed by five riders in a red-hot Tissot Superpole session as Toprak Razgatlioglu claimed a first BMW pole Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) claimed his first BMW pole position in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship with record-breaking pace, setting a lap in the 1’39s to lead his rivals at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The speed up and down the grid was incredible with TEN riders under the existing all-time lap record during the Pirelli Catalunya Round. THE FIRST RUN: mind-blowing pace in WorldSBK, ten riders under lap record The first runs were completed with Razgatlioglu posting a barely-believable 1’39.489s to lead his rivals by more than two tenths. Initially, Michael van der Mark had been in P2 but lost his first, and best, lap in his first stint for a track limits infringement at Turn 13, with that time being a 1’40.088s. It left Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in second, 0.251s behind Razgatlioglu, with Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) provisionally completing the front row – half-a-second down on the #54. Double Champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) was down in P8, some nine tenths away from pole after the first runs were completed. A TENTH IN IT: Bulega gets closer, Iannone on the front row With the red-hot pace in the first run, Razgatlioglu’s time remained unbeatable as he claimed a first BMW pole position in his second round on the M 1000 RR. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) was able to close the gap to ‘El Turco’ to just 0.102s to back up his Australia pole with P2 in Barcelona, while Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) completed the first row. ‘The Maniac’ posted a 1’39.799s to secure a front row start on his Panigale V4 R. BMW are the first manufacturer to record two poles in Barcelona, while it was the German factory’s seventh in WorldSBK. VAN DER MARK BACK: best Superpole result in almost three seasons Van der Mark responded to losing his previous best lap with a 1’39.947s as he went out in tandem with his teammate. The #54 and the #60 were spotted speaking between stints to improve their position and it paid off, with two BMWs in the top four for the first time in 2024. It’s also the Dutchman’s best Superpole result since he was second at Donington Park in 2021 Sam Lowes dropped down to fifth in the closing stages and was the final rider to go sub-1’40s, with Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) rounding out row two with sixth. CAN THEY MOVE FORWARD? Alex Lowes, Rea aiming for more… Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) moved up the order compared to Friday’s running to lead the third row in Race 1, with the #22 aiming to fight towards the front at KRT’s home round. Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) claimed eighth with Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) in ninth. ‘Loka’ and teammate Jonathan Rea went out together – as seen in previous seasons at the Pata Prometeon Yamaha team – but struggled to make headway, with #65 mired in 13th. It’s Rea’s worst Superpole result in Barcelona by ten places, with his previous lowest being third in 2021, 2022 and 2023. STARTING FROM FOURTH ROW: record-breaking pace just gets you P10, Bautista only 11th The fourth row features some heavyweight names as they aim to make progress in the race. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) took tenth with a 1’40.240s, 0.751s away from pole, and ‘Petrux’ was under the previous lap record despite taking tenth, while double Champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) will line up from 11th. Ironically, the #1 was the first rider who was slower than last year’s record, a time he set in 2023’s Tissot Superpole session. His race pace was impressive on Friday and, with six wins in a row here, will be looking to move forward as quickly as possible. Scott Redding (Bonovo Action BMW) will complete the fourth row. The top six from WorldSBK Superpole, full results here: 1. Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) 1'39.489s 2. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) +0.102s 3. Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) +0.310 4. Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) +0.458s 5. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) +0.499s 6. Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) +0.611s

2024 Catalunya World Superbike Superpole Result: One Lap Cancelled, One Lap Record By Jared Earle | Sat, 23/Mar/2024 - 03:53 World Superbike Superpole qualifying would be well-behaved with only one rider exceeding track limits throughout the whole session as the weather hovered around 19ºC with a track temperature of 29ºC
In the first half of the session, Toprak Razgatlioglu decided to set an early lap record that would stand throughout the whole session, putting everyone else in catch up mode. Michael van der Mark was working with Razgatlioglu but he lost his fast lap on the green paint. Nicolo Bulega and Sam Lowes headed into the mid-session break rounding out the top three.
In the second half, Bulega closed to within a tenth of Razgatlioglu's lap with Andrea Iannone sneaking onto the front row at the end. Michael van der Mark heads the second row, behind his teammate, with Sam Lowes and Dominique Aegerter alongside him.
The third row comprised of Alex Lowes, Remy Gardner and Andrea Locatelli with Alvaro Bautista and Jonathan Rea outside the top ten.

Dorna has changed the format of results such that it is very difficult, or expensive ($20/month adobe subscrip) to copy the info. This is why you see changes to the format of results.

2024 Catalunya World Superbike Race One Result: Twenty Laps Of A Tyre-Hungry Track By Jared Earle | Sat, 23/Mar/2024 - 06:45 World Superbike starts handing out the European points after twenty laps of the Barcelona circuit for the twenty three riders. Alvaro Bautista was penalised three places on the grid for slow riding in Superpole. This would be the first complete race distance race of the year.
Toprak Razgatlioglu started from pole position on the harder front tyre and he took the lead into turn one ahead of Andrea Iannone who lost second place to Sam Lowes in the first couple of turns. Jonathan Rea had issues in the middle of the lap and dropped to last place at the end of lap one. Lap two, Razgatlioglu fought off Sam Lowes into turn one with Iannone, Andrea Locatelli, Alex Lowes and Nicolo Bulega behind. Rea pulled out of the race.
Sam Lowes remained under a tenth of a second of Razgatlioglu but the race leader set a fastest lap of 1'41.729 remaining in the lead until Lowes passed Razgatlioglu into turn five. Bulega and Iannone swapped places over lap two with Ianonne winning out by the end of lap three.
Sam Lowes set a fastest lap, a 1'41.440, as he opened his lead over Razgatlioglu to half a second. The front four riders were covered by under a second with almost a second between fourth place and Andrea Locatelli in fifth with Michael van der Mark on his tail.
At the start of lap five, Sam Lowes led Razgatlioglu by almost a second. Nicolo Bulega passed Andrea Iannone and then took second off Razgatlioglu into turn five.
On lap five, a second in the lead, Sam Lowes crashed into turn ten, losing the front and handing the lead to Bulega with Razgatlioglu and Iannone in his wake. Michael van der Mark took fourth place on lap six, a second and a half from the leading trio.
Andrea Iannone took second place from Toprak Razgatlioglu into turn one on the brakes, with strategic positioning to hold the position over the left-right chicane at the start of the lap.
Lap eight was started with Bulega over a second clear of Iannone and Razgatlioglu with van der Mark in the middle of the long gap between third and fifth while Alvaro Bautista in ninth place was lapping considerably quicker than the riders in front of him, starting lap nine in eighth place at the back of the hard-fought battle for fifth place, with Alex Lowes and Andrea Locatelli swapping places in front of him and Danilo Petrucci.
At the start of lap ten, Bulega had a three second lead over Iannone and Razgatlioglu. Petrucci passed Lowes for sixth place and Bautista followed him through, pushing Lowes to the back of the group.
At half race distance, Nicolo Bulega led by four seconds as Toprak Razgatlioglu took second place off Andrea Ianonne whose pace was dropping a little. Michael van der Mark closed to within a half second of Iannone, joining the fight for second place. Danilo Petrucci was under a second off van der Mark with Alvaro Bautista a third of a second and closing behind him.
Lap fourteen, Bulega was still over four seconds clear of Razgatlioglu who had over a second of a lead over Iannone with van der Mark, Petrucci and Bautista a second further back. Bautista took fifth from Petrucci into turn one, hogging the right side down the straight alongside Petrucci. Further round the lap, as van der Mark went wide in the middle of turn thirteen, Bautista snuck underneath, spending tyre to sneak into fourth place starting lap fifteen, over a second from Iannone but lapping a few tenths quicker.
As Bulega managed his lead, Razgatlioglu closed up to under four seconds, half a second quicker than most of the remaining riders, with only Bautista in fourth place matching his pace. Bautista closed to within half a second of Iannone with four laps left and passing at the end of lap seventeen after swapping back and fourth into turn ten. Iannone tried to take third place back into turn one, but Bautista held the lead on the brakes outside Iannone into turn one. Razgatlioglu was two and a half seconds off Bulega, lapping six tenths quicker than the leader.
With two laps to go, Razgatlioglu was under two seconds off Bulega with Bautista over four seconds further back. Iannone was a second off Bautista and the podium looked decided but with one lap to go, Razgatlioglu was seven tenths of a second behind Bulega and was over a second a lap quicker and could still smell a win.
Razgatlioglu took the lead after a few early attempts, with all the grip his harder front tyre had to give him. Razgatlioglu put the hammer down to win his first race on the BMW by almost a second.
Alvaro Bautista rounded out the podium over four seconds further back, three seconds clear of Andrea Iannone, the leading independent rider.
Celebrating after his first win on the BMW, Razgatlioglu waved his usual massive Turkish flag and was congratulated by his teammate and other riders and he climbed to third place in the championship. Bulega smashed his screen in frustration and his tyre looked absolutely spent in Parc Fermé, but he took the championship lead from Alex Lowes, leading by a single point. Bautista turned a fourteenth place start to a podium.

A FIRST BMW VICTORY FOR TOPRAK: Razgatlioglu hunts Bulega down and wins final-lap showdown in Barcelona Saturday, 23 March 2024 The Turkish rider was almost four seconds down at the halfway stage but closed down Nicolo Bulega to win a stunning Barcelona race Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) claimed a hard-fought Race 1 win at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to secure his first victory with BMW in just his fourth race, after hunting Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) down in the closing stages to take a sensational victory in a last-lap fight. It ends a run of 902 days without victory for BMW, while it also moved the #54 into third in the all-time podium list with 117 following his success during the Pirelli Catalunya Round. FIGHT FOR VICTORY: last-lap fight It was a disastrous start to Race 1 for Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) dropping down to last and pulling into the pits at the end of the opening lap. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) got a mega start from the second row to launch into victory contention and, after hounding Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) for the first two laps, made the move on the inside of Turn 5 to take the lead, and lead his first laps in WorldSBK in just his fourth race. Once the #14 got away from Razgatlioglu, he opened a gap to the #54 but his race ended at Turn 10. He lost the front of his V4 R at the left-hand hairpin and crashed from the lead and handing P1 to Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati), who, after losing ground at the start, picked off his rivals one-by-one to move back towards the front. With his competitors battling behind him, Bulega started checking out in front with incredible race pace, often lapping in the high 1’41s or low 1’42s in the first half of the race. He was able to open up a four-second lead just over the halfway stage. In the second half of the race, Bulega was lapping around half-a-second slower than Razgatlioglu as the 2021 Champion closed the four-second gap to 2.6s at the start of Lap 18. At the start of the final lap, it was down to less than a second and the #54 was able to make the race-winning move at Turn 5. Razgatlioglu held on for victory with Bulega second, and the #11 claimed the Championship lead despite losing out on P1. Razgatlioglu joins an elusive club of riders who’ve now won with three different manufacturers, having tasted victory with Kawasaki, Yamaha and now BMW. FIGHTING FROM 14TH: Bautista on the podium despite fifth row start Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) was penalised in the Tissot Superpole for slow riding on the racing line, dropping him from P11 to P14 on the grid. However, with his strong race pace in hand, the #1 fought back to claim a podium on home soil as he passed his rivals one-by-one to move up the order, including sensational moves in the final sector. He passed Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) on the run between Turns 13 and 14, before overtaking Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) through the final corner. The rookie was unable to hold off Bautista and finished in fourth, three seconds behind him after losing ground then the factory Ducati passed him. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) was the highest-placed Yamaha rider in fifth, finishing almost 1.3s down on Iannone and having a similar margin to Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), who fought for the five position in KRT’s home round. INSIDE THE TOP TEN: moving forward during Race 1 Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) had looked like he’d be in the podium fight but lost ground in the closing stages, eventually being classified in seventh but less than a second behind the #22 of Alex Lowes. Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was able to maintain a place in the top ten as he finished P8, with Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) in ninth. The Dutchman, in the opening stages, was fighting in the top four but his pace dropped off and he eventually finished almost 17 seconds down on the race win. Axel Bassani (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) made gains in Race 1, finishing tenth and only six seconds down on his teammate. INSIDE THE POINTS: a disappointing result for Team HRC Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team Motocorsa Racing), a race winner at this circuit previously, was 1.7 seconds away from a top ten finish as he came home in P11, beating Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW) by half-a-second. The two Team HRC riders finished in 13th and 14th, led by Iker Lecuona ahead of Xavi Vierge, with only0.039s separating the two Spaniards. Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was the last points scorer. MISSING OUT: classified but no points Tarran Mackenzie (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda) was just outside the points-paying positions as he finished two seconds away from Gardner ahead of two more Brits: Scott Redding (Bonovo Action BMW) in 17th and Bradley Ray in 18th. Philipp Oettl (GMT94 Yamaha) was 19th with Adam Norrodin (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda) and Tito Rabat (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) completing the classified riders; Rabat was given a three-place penalty following Superpole for slow riding on the racing line. The top six from Race 1, full results here: 1. Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) 2. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) +0.868s 3. Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) +5.338s 4. Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) +8.543s 5. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) +9.818s 6. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) +11.190s

2024 Catalunya World Supersport Race One Result: Know When To Hold 'Em By Jared Earle | Sat, 23/Mar/2024
Eighteen laps for World Supersport is the longest race of the year and the first European round of the season.
Adrian Huertas led into turn one from pole position, cutting across the track, with Can Oncu and Stefano Manzi passing Yari Montella for second and third places. Marcel Schroetter in fifth had a three place grid penalty
Can Oncu started lap two by taking the lead into turn one but he couldn't escape from Huertas but Huertas took the lead back into turn nine.
Lucas Mahias, climbing to fifth place, set a 1'45.558 fastest lap behind Huertas, Oncu, Manzi and Montella. Nikki Tuuli and Gabriele Giannini both got a double long lap penalty for jumping the start. A lap later, Mahias set a 1'45.462 after he took fourth place from Montella and as Oncu took the lead from Huertas into turn one. Huertas took the lead back once more. Mahias set a 1'45.408 but Jorge Navarro beat it with a 1'45.333 on lap four.
Lap five, one second covered the lead five bikes, but Oncu held the pace back and let Huertas break away, but he closed back up to start lap six half a second off the lead. Yari Montella dropped off the leading four who were still covered by under a second for a few laps, even as Manzi and Mahias duelled.
On lap eight, Manzi passed Oncu on the outside into turn one and Mahias passed him on the inside. After Oncu was pushed back to fourth place, the leading four riders were finally spread out to over a second covering the lead four. Manzi and Mahias resumed their battle once they'd escaped Oncu.
At half race distance, Adrian Huertas led Stefano Manzi and Lucas Mahias by half a second with Marcel Schroetter and Valentin Debise over a second further back. Can Oncu had no grip left and ended lap ten in eighth place.
Lucas Mahias crashed out of third place into turn ten, trying too tight a line into the turn, and recovered on his dirty bike in twenty-second place, four seconds out of the points. Marcel Schroetter inherited third place two seconds off Manzi's second place. With the lead three riders settled, the fight for fourth was where the action was, Yari Montella taking to the escape route as he's forced off line into turn one of lap fourteen, trying to take forurth place from Valentin Debise.
Lap fifteen of twenty, Huertas led Manzi by under a second with Schroeder three seconds further back. A second and a quarter behind him, Jorge Navarro led Valentin Debise and Yari Montella, almost two seconds from Federico Caricasulo.
Lap seventeen of eighteen, Huertas held his small lead over Manzi with Schroetter over four seconds behind, but Manzi was within striking distance, closing to within two tenths of a second. Huertas had less grip left, but he was still holding tight corners as his bike squirmed underneath. Manzi started the last lap four tenths off Huertas after the Ducati held the lead. Navarro lost three places after clipping Montella's rear wheel.
In spite of a bike that was fighting back, Adrian Huertas held onto the lead as Stefano Manzi gave up on the chase. Huertas won by over a second over Manzi with Marcel Schroetter over four seconds further back. Yari Montella took a lonely fourth place ahead of Valentin Debise, Federico Caricasulo and Jorge Navarro. Can Oncu finished in eighth place five seconds further back.
Yari Montella retains his series lead over Marcel Schroetter as Adrian Huertas passes Stefano Manzi for third place in the championship. Lucas Mahias set the third fastest lap of the race and will start race two on the front row, behind Jorge Navarro and Adrian Huertas.

FIRST WIN: Huertas claims first WorldSSP victory after early Oncu battle Saturday, 23 March 2024 The Spaniard went from pole to victory to take a long-awaited first win in World Supersport after a dramatic battle Adrian Huertas (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) ended a long wait for victory in the FIM Supersport World Championship with victory on home soil at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as he fended off his rivals to win by just over a second. The #99 backed up his second pole of 2024 with victory during the Pirelli Catalunya Round, with Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) and Marcel Schroetter (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) rounding out the podium. Huertas led the race from Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) in the early stages, with the #61 getting past on two occasions before the Ducati rider responded. Eventually, the Spaniard pulled out a gap as Oncu dropped back, eventually finishing in eighth. Manzi took second after breaking away from the chasing group, finishing 4.5 seconds clear of Schroetter in third. The German, who took two podiums last season here, was promoted to third when Lucas Mahias (GMt94 Yamaha) crashed at Turn 10 on Lap 10. Huertas became the 63rd different winner in the Championship, and the sixth youngest at 20 years, seven months and two days old. It was also Ducati’s 24th win in WorldSSP. For Manzi, it was his 24th rostrum – 15 of which have been second place – while Schroetter’s third means he’s now on ten podiums following his switch from Moto2™. He’s also the only rider to take three podiums out of three this year. The top six from WorldSSP Race 1, full results here and the fastest laps for the Race 2 grid here: 1. 2024 Catalunya World Superbike Superpole Race Result: Wet Morning Warm Up, Dry Sprint By Jared Earle | Sun, 24/Mar/2024 - 03:42 After a wet warm up, where Toprak Razgatlioglu came out on top, riders lined up for a ten-lap sprint to determine the grid for the afternoon's race. Alvaro Bautista moved three places up on the grid having served his penalty in yesterday's race. The weather was a cold 14ºC at the start of the race.
Andrea Iannone got the hole shot and led into turn one with Sam Lowes and Nicolo Bulega, making the most of a bad start, behind him. Sam Lowes took the lead into turn nine, holding it through turn ten. Alex Lowes started lap two in fourth placer ahead of Toprak Razgatlioglu. Alex Lowes passed Bulega and started hounding Iannone, passing him on turn nine.
Sam Lowes set the fastest lap only for it to be beaten by his brother with a 1'41.192. Iannone took second place into turn one, splitting the twins. Lap four of ten, Iannone pushed Sam Lowes aside to take the lead into turn one as sixth-placed Alvaro Bautista set the fastest lap, a 1'41.185, and Sam Lowes got picked off my a few riders, starting lap five in sixth position. Nicolo Bulega got to the front, setting a 1'40.955, but was pushed aside at turn five by three riders as Razgatlioglu went from fourth place to first.
At half race distance, Iannone took the lead from Razgatlioglu into turn one with Bulega, Alex Lowes, Bautista, Sam Lowes and Michael van der Mark within touch, as the leading seven riders were covered by under a second.
Razgatlioglu led three Ducatis into turn one off lap seven with Alex Lowes running wide, breaking the lead train. The three Ducatis behind Razgatlioglu, Iannone, Bautista and Bulega swapped places, pushing Bulega to the back of the group and allowing Alex Lowes to catch back up. The start of the penultimate lap, Razgatlioglu led Bautista, Iannone and Bulega by just two tenths of a second, half a second covering the four fighting for the lead with Alex Lowes within striking distance half a second further back.
Alvaro Bautista took the lead into turn one, slipstreaming Razgatlioglu down the straight, holding a defensive fast line through most of the lap, but Razgatlioglu wedged into the last corner, taking the apex from Bautista, pushing him wide, and driving to the line, with Andrea Iannone following the BMW to steal second place from Bautista at the flag. Bautista
Nicolo Bulega was within half a second of the win with Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark seconds behind to round out the second row for race two.
Alvaro Bautista worked hard from his fourth-row start to get to the front and into the three Ducati battle behind Razgatlioglu.
Andrea Iannone looks like a guy that's just enjoying himself racing, running around Parc Fermé with a grin on his face and a spring in his step, hugging anyone who'll let him. "I enjoy!"
Toprak Razgatlioglu, using second gear instead of third, said he copied Valentino Rossi with the last corner move. His win cemented his third place in the championship, twelve points off leader Nicolo Bulega and ten behind Alex Lowes. Andrea Iannone's second place promoted him to fourth in the championship, following Razgatlioglu past Bautista, just like in the race.

REPORT: Toprak triumphs in final corner, Rossi-style showdown with Bautista in Superpole Race Sunday, 24 March 2024 “Valentino Rossi did it many years ago, so today, ‘why not?’ now” – Razgatlioglu vs Bautista continues into the new era of WorldSBK Anyone who is hasn’t watched anything from the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship or read anything about it should probably start now. The Pirelli Catalunya Round at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya gave its second final lap showdown of the weekend with an absolute hair-raiser between Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), which went to the final corner of the race. FROM THE START: Crucial early stages as good starts prove vital Off the line, it was another poor start from Championship leader Nicolo Bulega, whilst it was the traditional fast-starting Andrea Iannone who grabbed the holeshot from Race 1 winner Toprak. Alex Lowes was a big mover on the opening lap, up into contention. Sam Lowes was also a fast starter once again in second and hit the front at Turn 9. Bulega tried to fight back into Turn 1 to get ahead of a charging Alex Lowes and did so but Lowes retaliated at Turn 3. Changing backwards and forwards, the race really exploded into life on Turn 5. Sam Lowes had been dropped down to P5 but at the front, the gloves came off as Razgatlioglu, Iannone, Alex Lowes and Nicolo Bulega battled side-by-side through Turn 5 up until Turn 9, when Toprak took two in one move to lead. Iannone settled down but as was the case in the early stages, the #11 Bulega struggled in battle. SECOND HALF BATTLES: an absolute classic into the final laps Bautista made his way into the podium places on Lap 7 when Iannone ran wide at Turn 10 and then battled back ahead of Bulegas, putting the reigning WorldSSP Champion wide and allowing Bautista into third. Toprak however was leading and looking comfortable, even if Bautista managed to get ahead of Iannone with 3 to go, with the top four covered by a second into the final lap. Making his move for the lead, Alvaro Bautista hit the front at Turn 1, out-braking Toprak but it wasn’t done there; the favourite overtaking opportunities of Turn 4 and Turn 5, it all seemed to rest at Turn 10 but the Turk wasn’t close enough. However, having been so strong in the last two corners yesterday, both riders were evenly matched. Building through the downhill sweep of Turn 13, Toprak made a huge lunge at the final corner to pass Bautista in a replica of Valentino Rossi vs Jorge Lorenzo from MotoGP™ in 2009. Toprak forced Bautista to pick up which allowed rookie Iannone to surge through his fellow Ducati rider but couldn’t quite get Toprak. Two from two, Razgatlioglu doubled up in Barcelona ahead of Iannone and Bautista, with Bulega and Alex Lowes completing the top five. Sixth place and a solid result for Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team), with Danilo Petrucci, Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) and Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) the last of the Superpole Race points-scorers. Gardner’s teammate Dominique Aegerter missed out on points whilst Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) went too hard, too soon and finished down in 11th, ahead of Scott Redding (Bonovo Action BMW), 12th, and Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha), who has still to score points with Yamaha. Top nine after WorldSBK Superpole Race, full results here: 1. Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) 2. Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) +0.075s 3. 2024 Catalunya World Superbike Race Two Result: A Return To Form By Jared Earle | Sun, 24/Mar/2024 - 06:49 After an exciting Superpole race that determined the grid for this race, the riders lined up for twenty long laps of the Catalunya circuit, looking to make their tyres last the whole race.
Toprak Razgatlioglu was joined by Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark with the harder front tyre that Razgatlioglu used to great effect yesterday, but everyone shared the same rear tyre.
Alvaro Bautista took advantage of his front row start to take the lead ahead of Andrea Iannone and Nicolo Bulega with Razgatlioglu in fourth. Bulega passed Iannone to take second behind his teammate and the three Ducatis started the second lap ahead of Razgatlioglu but Razgatlioglu went round the outside of Bulega into then two for third place behind Iannone. Razgatlioglu took a spearing line to second place into turn ten. Andrea Locatelli, Axel Bassani and Michael Ruben Rinaldi crashed out, Locatelli having just set the fastest lap, a 1'42.190, recovering in nineteenth place.
Lap four, Bautista led Razgatlioglu, Buklega, Iannone, Remy Gardner, Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark, with Bulega passing Razgatlioglu to put the two factory Ducatis in the lead. Bulega and Bautista swapped back and forth in turn ten as Razgatlioglu looked on.
Lap five, Bulega took the lead from Bautista into turn one and tried to break free of the throng behind, stretching a lead of three quarters of a second and setting a fastest lap of 1'42.190. Bautista held onto second place with Razgatlioglu, Iannone, Gardner and van der Mark within touching distance. Jonathan Rea was seventh almost a second behind the group, fending off Danilo Petrucci and the Lowes twins.
On lap seven, Bautista closed a few tenths on Bulega, but the class rookie stretched out his lead over the lap. A second and a half covered the leading four, a second ahead of van der Mark in fifth place. Bautista closed up on Bulega at the start of lap nine and Razgatlioglu started closing up on them with Iannone almost a second behind him.
Bautista kept his pace in the low 1'42s and passed his teammate Bulega for the lead, with his more consistent pace keeping him in front.
At half race distance, then laps down, Alvaro Bautista led Nicolo Bulega by three tenths of a second with Toprak Razgatlioglu three quarters of a second behind. Andrea Iannone in fourth place was a second further back with Michael van der Mark over a second and a half behind him. Sam Lowes in eighth place was the only rider close to Bautista's pace. The Ducati pair at the front extended their lead over Razgatlioglu to over a second as they dipped into the 1'41s in their team battle.
Bautista extended his lead as Bulega couldn't keep up in the first half of the lap, but he closed back up in the second half. Andrea Iannone crashed out of fourth place at the end of the lap.
Lap fourteen, Bautista and Bulega continued to stretch out their lead over Razgatlioglu to over two seconds. Michael van der Mark inherited a lonely fourth place with Remy Gardner and Danilo Petrucci a second and a half behind him. Razgatlioglu's pace dropped to 1'43 as the leaders remained in the low 1'42s, extending the lead even further as the tyres started to fade with five laps to go. Bautista and Bulega started lap seventeen of twenty three quarters of a second quicker than Razgatlioglu and van der Mark. Jonathan Rea split the Lowes twins, passing Sam for eighth place.
Three laps left, Bautista had a lead of a second over Bulega with Razgatlioglu over five seconds behind in third place with van der Mark four seconds further behind. Petrucci and Gardner were over a second behind with Alex Lowes and Rea rounding out the top eight.
The Ducatis crossed the line to start the last lap with reassuring pit boards telling them they were five and a half seconds clear of the BMW thorn in their side. Bautista and Bulega were separated bt almost two seconds and brought their red bikes home in formation with Alvaro Bautista taking his first win of the year ahead of Nicolo Bulega. Toprak Razgatlioglu quietly took the flag with his teammate Michael van der Mark a further five seconds behind. Danilo Petrucci, Remy Gardner and Alex Lowes finished as a group with Jonathan Rea talking his first points of the year behind them.
With his win, Alvaro Bautista climbed to second place the championship, taking advantage of Andrea Iannone's DNF to slot in behind his teammate who leaves Spain in control of the title fight. Toprak Razgatlioglu drops to fourth place in the championship and Alex Lowes gained a point with Remy Gardner getting penalised a place on the last lap for exceeding track limits at turn five, putting Lowes in joint second place with Bautista.

LAST-LAP BATTLE: Manzi pips Schroetter to Race 2 victory, Mahias returns to rostrum as Huertas finishes 32nd Sunday, 24 March 2024 A red-flagged Race 2 gave plenty of drama in a shortened race as Manzi claimed victory, while Race 1 winner Huertas was the last classified rider The FIM Supersport World Championship continued to provide plenty of excitement as Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) claimed a first win of the 2024 season in Race 2 for the Pirelli Catalunya Round. In a shortened red-flag race, there were plenty of early title race twists with Adrian Huertas (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) the last classified rider after a small Turn 1 crash on Lap 5 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Huertas got a good start when the lights went out and kept the lead despite early pressure from Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) and Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing)., Oncu, on Lap 2, tried to move into first by overtaking Huertas and Montella at Turn 1. All three made contact, and continued, but Huertas dropped to fourth, allowing Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) into the podium fight. Huertas soon moved back into the lead with a two-for-one move into Turn 1 with Mahias in second, and the experienced Frenchman kept the pressure on the #99 until the red flags were shown. They were deployed following a crash for rookie Piotr Biesiekirski (Ecosantagata Althea Racing Team) at Turn 1, with the Pole taken to the medical centre following his tumble. When the race got underway, it was over a six-lap distance with a front row of Huertas, Mahias and Marcel Schroetter (MV Agusta Reparto Corse). Montella got away well when the lights went out, taking the lead of the race, but it didn’t last long as Huertas pulled off another two-for-one overtake around the outside of Turn 1, passing both Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) and Montella. The battle continued to rage on until a mistake by Huertas meant he went into the gravel and dropping all the way down to 32nd place. That promoted Schroetter into the fight, and he took advantage by passing Manzi into Turn 7 to take the lead before the #62 responded at Turn 1 on the final lap and instantly built a gap over the MV Agusta star. Manzi was able to hold on despite Schroetter’s pressure for victory by 0.086s, ahead of Mahias in third; the Frenchman taking his first podium since Estoril 2020. It was Manzi’s sixth win and 25th podium, while Schroetter claimed his 11th rostrum – and continues his record of scoring a podium in every race this year.
