I picked either The Dinger or SVG to win the race. Well SVG made me look good. There was only 1 track blocking crash from the clowns. Overall, this was a success.
And a big +1 to Justin Haley, the guy drove his ass off.

This race could suck for 2 reasons, little to no passing or a complete wreck fest. I'm betting the latter given how well the indy road course (and road course racing in general) is handled. If the race has less than 8 cautions it should be considered a major miracle. We got 9 yellows. 3 from Bowl Cut Boy alone. If his head was screwed on right (which it never is), we don't have 9 of them.

Get stuck under UNDER a tire wall 3 times ???????????????

I don’t honestly think NASCAR embarrassed themselves in any way with this race. That was one of the better street course races I have seen in my life without the rain. Consider the conditions and most drivers’ lack of experience on this type of track, and IMO they hit a grand slam.
There were only a handful of DNF’s compared to other Cup races. I think I counted 7. We’ve seen that many in one crash.
In the end experience won out, but not by much. I don’t see any way NASCAR and it’s drivers embarrassed themselves. Like the old TV commercial, “These guys are good.”

Like the old TV commercial, “These guys are good.” The only embarrassment was the number of times cars had to be towed out from UNDER the tire barriers. I understand the temporary nature of the track, however, a better method of affixing the tire barriers to the ground needs to be developed to keep cars from submarining the barriers. The barriers did their job, stopped out of control vehicles with minimal damage as all were able to continue after their tow jobs.

Most of the people I talked to had never been to a race and several came because of Drive to Survive (yes I know I know). The people even ripped down the big banners that blocked the views from outside the track. It was v. wet though.

The shock and awe expressed by the talking heads about SVG's win is amazing to me. Only Junior said that he wasn't surprised, because he like many know how Australian V8 Super Cars is a incredible series and the drivers in that series are top notch. I have to imagine that NASCAR is kind of unhappy that one of their "World's Best Drivers" didn't win the first race on the Chicago streets.
As for the race itself I enjoyed it. They need to come up with a solution to cars going under the tire barriers but if the race had been dry that would not have been as big of an issue. We did have an issue with bad thunderstorms and tornado warnings. So our broadcast NBC was that and I had to watch on Peacock. My god Peacock sucks. Everytime they went to commercial the app would quit, so I had to reload it. I missed big chunks of the race due to that. Interestingly enough I have Xfinity for my cable service, Xfinity is owned by the same team that owns Universal and NBC, so you think they could get an app that works better.

Watched Chicago on Comcast. Previously watched IndyCar Road America round on Peacock. When announcers would say they were going to the side by side form of commercials - On Comcast you got side by side. On Peacock you got 100% commercial and 'coming soon' screen play. FUCK Peacock. Peacock was included in the Comcast billing until the end of June; now they want one to PAY ADDITIONAL for Peacock. FUCK Peacock, it isn't worth the fees they are asking.

I thought NASCAR put on a very good race especially for the conditions. Street racing on a damp track? That should spell disaster, but they only had five +/- DNF’s. Incredible for a NASCAR race and a wet street course.
The new car does very well for what NASCAR is trying to do. It puts on a decent show, comparable to Trans Am and a little less so with GT.
Bottom line. Ovals do not work in suburban Chicago. Chicagoland Speedway sits unused, Chicago Motor is an Amazon now IIRC. This new car and this type of racing can work in major metropolitan areas.

NASCAR isn't going to leave the Chicago area. If the clowns that run the city say "No you can't come back." (Yes I know the former mayor inked the deal for 3 years with an option for 2 more years) Then NASCAR will head to Chicagoland. The Gen 7 works on the speedways very well and given the old worn-out surface, will produce a good show. However, I find it funny that fans want the track back after trashing it for years.
