Ulster Grand Prix cancelled for fourth consecutive year The Ulster Grand Prix has been cancelled for a fourth consecutive year after being ‘undermined by two specific issues’.
Last held in 2019, the event had been due to run as a two-day national meeting from August 18-19.
A statement issued by the Dundrod and District Motorcycle Club on Tuesday evening said a failure to obtain a copy of the public liability insurance policy covering the sport from the MCUI (Ulster Centre), coupled with the absence of a commitment on funding from Tourism NI, had left the organisers with ‘no option’.

New charges in Island Capital could cause outrage amongst visiting TT teams & fans.
New charges in Island Capital could cause outrage amongst visiting TT teams & fans. BREAKING NEWS: With only a few weeks to go to TT 2023 the Port Soderick Herald has today been reliably informed that new bylaws hastily approved by Douglas Council on Friday now pose a significant threat to this years event.
A controversial proposal will apparently see two large barriers erected at the top of Bray Hill which will require competitors to stop and put a pound coin into the slot in order to gain access to the remainder of the course. The only way of circumventing this requirement will be through the purchasing of a two week Douglas Council racing pass – which includes a special QR code which must be displayed on the faring of any competing motorcycle at all times. The Council is apparently optimistic that all visiting teams will buy the £1,500 new passes otherwise it might get a bit backlogged at the end of Glencrutchery Road.
The Herald approached Council Leader Claire Wells, and current Mayor Natalie Byron, for comment but as yet there has been no response.
A spokesperson for Honda UK who was also approached by the Herald is quoted as saying “We received an announcement from the Council about these proposals on Saturday night. As yet we are unable to confirm whether the email we received is genuine or not. Although given how desperate and money grabbing the proposals are we assume they are genuine and are currently discussing the ramifications with our lawyers”.
This proposal comes on the back of Douglas Council last week also announcing that it will charge £1 a day for all serving officers in the IOM Constabulary to park at the Grandstand with Cllr Falk Horning at the time commenting “Its only £1 and despite myself getting free parking I’d like to see every car owner banned from town on a week day and clean council electric buses deployed to bus them all in from transport hubs in either Braddan or Onchan. There is simply no place for the internal combustion engine in 2023 and owning a car is basically no different to gassing a badger or suffocating an innocent child”
