Bulega leads Ducati 1-2-3 in WorldSSP Friday action, Aegerter 9th overall in Indonesia Friday, 11 November 2022 Three Ducati riders headed the field in WorldSSP after a disrupted Free Practice 2 session in Mandalika Friday action for the FIM Supersport World Championship concluded with the second free practice session at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit for the Pirelli Indonesian Round, with Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) topping the timesheets as he led a Ducati 1-2-3 both in Free Practice 2 and the overall classification. Free Practice 2 was disrupted by a red flag with around 20 minutes left in the session as Bulega led Raffaele de Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura WorldSSP). DUCATI ON TOP: Bologna manufacturer leads the way on Friday The top three was filled with Ducati riders, with Bulega topping the times with a 1’38.004s with times vastly quicker than in Free Practice 1 as the asphalt became more rubbered in, with Bulega finding around five seconds between the two sessions. He was more than two tenths clear of Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura WorldSSP) in second place after the Italian had a crash at Turn 12 which limited his running in FP2. It was a similar story for Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing) in FP2 after he had a Turn 2 crash, but he was able to respond to take third place, 0.245s down on Bulega’s pace. THE ITALIAN JOB: five Italians in the top six Aside from the top three, there were two more Italians in the top six in the combined classification. Yari Montella (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) had a crash at Turn 11 in FP2 but he was able to finish the session in fourth place, ahead of Finnish rider Niki Tuuli (MV Agusta Reparto Corse). Tuuli took fifth place, lapping only around three tenths down on Bulega, while FP1 pacesetter Stefano Manzi (Dynavolt Triumph) rounded out the top six. ROUNDING OUT THE TOP TEN: Championship contenders down the order… Dutch rider Glenn van Straalen (EAB Racing Team) was seventh in a tightly-packed field as he posted a 1’38.702s, finishing ahead of both Championship contenders. Lorenzo Baldassarri (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) was eighth with title rival Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) in ninth; the pair separated by just one tenth at the end of Friday’s action. Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) completed the top ten as he lapped in 1’39.321s, more than a second off Bulega’s pace. TO NOTE FROM FRIDAY: housekeeping from WorldSSP The session was red flagged with just over 20 minutes left after a crash for Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) at Turn 8. The rookie was taken to the medical centre for a check-up following the crash. Simon Jespersen (Kallio Racing), who finished FP1 in second place, was 12th in FP2 ahead of Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha); Cluzel did not set a lap time in the first half of FP1 along with teammate Andy Verdoia (GMT94 Yamaha) who finished in 11th. The top six following WorldSSP Friday action, full results here: 1. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) 1’38.004s 2. Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura WorldSSP) +0.223s 3. Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing) +0.245s 4. Yari Montella (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) +0.291s 5. Niki Tuuli (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) +0.341s 6. Stefano Manzi (Dynavolt Triumph) +0.564s

An "unbelievable" lap time, being "very strong" and remembering Marquez: the story of Razgatlioglu’s sublime Saturday Saturday, 12 November 2022 The reigning Champion took victory in Race 1 in Indonesia with a stunning ride from pole position, after he claimed pole by more than one second in Superpole The 2022 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s penultimate round’s first race has been logged in the history books; the 900th race in the Championship’s history was won by Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK), who led from start to finish and never really looked in doubt. Razgatlioglu sits second in the Championship and with his victory, puts Alvaro Bautista’s (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) title celebrations on hold until at least tomorrow. It was a great start from the #1 Yamaha who surged away from his pole position, having set a new lap record in Tissot Superpole and sporting the biggest margin in a WorldSBK Superpole session for 15 years. Teammate Andrea Locatelli shadowed him on the opening lap and made it a Yamaha 1-2 in the early stages, before being passed by Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) into Turn 10 on Lap 2. Rea couldn’t go with Razgatlioglu however, with the Turk setting a phenomenal pace. In the low 33s and high 32s at the start of the race, Razgatlioglu settled into a steady rhythm in the mid 1’33s, keeping those behind him at bay. There was one small blunder on his way to victory, as he had a moment at Turn 7 and had to cut through the fast esses, allowing Alvaro Bautista to close up to 1.1s behind him. However, Razgatlioglu responded instantly with two immediate 1’33.2s, breaking Bautista’s will and heading for his 28th victory with Yamaha, the any rider has achieved with the manufacturer, one more than Noriyuki Haga’s tally. Speaking about his victory in Indonesia, Razgatlioglu was elated to add Mandalika to the list of circuits he has won at: “Today, I am very happy because we are very strong. In FP3, it was a very good lap time and in Superpole it was an unbelievable lap time! For me, it was important to win the race. It was good for me but not easy for anybody because of the very hot conditions. In the race, I made just one mistake but I didn’t crash.” Talking about the moment on Lap 13 at Turn 7, the reigning World Champion cast his mind back to Marc Marquez’s massive highside at the corner in MotoGP™ earlier in the year: “In corner six, I touched the dirty line and in corner seven I closed the gas because the rear was sliding. I felt the sliding after I touched the gas. I went wide because it wasn’t possible to turn. Afterwards, I remember Marc Marquez who had a very big crash here. Always, I am just scared of corner seven because you have just one line and you try to ride this line. You are always thinking this but sometimes make a mistake.”

Razgatlioglu resists Rea for Mandalika Superpole Race win, Bautista takes fourth place Sunday, 13 November 2022 Alex Bassani The pair battled hard throughout the 10-lap race but Razgatlioglu took victory after pulling out a gap over the six-time Champion; Bassani crowned Best Independent Rider in 2022 Racing action for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship started in style in the Pirelli Indonesian Round at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit with a fierce battle setting up the remainder of Sunday’s action. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) claimed a hard-fought victory over Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and kept his Championship hopes alive ahead of Race 2 on Sunday. TAKING THE FRONT ROW FOR RACE 2: the top three in the Superpole Race Razgatlioglu led from pole position into Turn 1 but, unlike in Race 1 yesterday, was unable to pull a gap in the early stages of the race. He fell behind Rea on Lap 3 when the six-time Champion passed him through Turn 12 to move into the lead with Rea aiming to end his win drought. However, Razgatlioglu responded on Lap 7 at Turn 10, after attempting the move on several occasions, to re-gain the lead. He then held on to take his second victory of the weekend and his 31st win in WorldSBK. Rea’s second place was his 241st in WorldSBK and Kawasaki’s 399th race on the podium. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) ended his podium drought, which started at the Dutch Round, with third place to take his sixth podium but also Italy’s 400th in WorldSBK history. The trio will line up from the first row in this afternoon’s Race 2. BAUTISTA FOURTH: the title in his grasp… Locatelli had to fend off a charging Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) to claim his first podium in 203 days, with the Championship leader in fourth place. He will still be able to claim the title in Race 2 this afternoon if he finishes on the podium or leaves Race 2 with a 62-point margin over Razgatlioglu. Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) took fifth place as he was crowned the Best Independent Rider for the 2022 season, and he will start alongside Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) on the second row. FROM ROW THREE: taking 7th-9th in the Superpole Race Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) will start from the front of row three after he took seventh place, missing out on a second row start by just six tenths of a second. Lowes also had to resist Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) to take seventh with Rinaldi in eighth, while the sole Team HRC rider on the grid, Xavi Vierge, will start Race 2 from ninth place as he took ninth in the Superpole Race. The top nine following WorldSBK Tissot Superpole Race, full results here: 1 Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) 2. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) +0.586s 3. Mission accomplished on Ducati return: Bautista crowned 2022 World Champion Sunday, 13 November 2022 The Spanish becomes the first Ducati Champion since 2011 with his title success on his return to the Bologna manufacturer Returning to the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati team after two years away proved to be a successful decision for team, manufacturer and rider as Alvaro Bautista took the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship title in 2022, three years after his maiden campaign with the team. A remarkable display of consistency intertwined with fierce battles as part of a titanic trio led to Bautista wrapping up the title a round early, doing so during the Pirelli Indonesian Round at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. BAUTISTA’S BIOGRAPHY: taking a title 16 years after the last… Spanish rider Bautista, from Talavera de la Reina, Toledo, Spain, took his first WorldSBK title just over a week shy of his 38th birthday, with it being his second World Championship crown after the 125cc World Championship title in 2006. He moved up to the 250cc World Championship for three seasons in 2007, finishing fourth, second and fourth in the standings, before a switch to MotoGP™ in 2010. He scored three podiums and a pole in his time in MotoGP™ before a switch to WorldSBK with Ducati in 2019, where he instantly fought for the title. Taking to the Championship like a duck to water, he racked up 11 consecutive wins but finished second in the title fight. A switch to Team HRC for 2020 and 2021 proved difficult for Bautista as he took three podiums in two years, although the experience garnered in those two years helped his Ducati return, claiming his first WorldSBK crown. THE SUCCESSFUL RETURN: one year back to claim the crown Becoming the third different rider in three seasons to claim the title, on a third different bike and from a third different country, Bautista’s return to Ducati was successful from the start; taking second in a last-lap fight in Race 1 at MotorLand Aragon against Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) before winning the two remaining races in the first round of 2022 would set the tone for the rest of the season. 14 wins and 29 podiums in 33 races this season propelled Bautista to the top as he became Ducati’s first WorldSBK Champion since compatriot Carlos Checa did so in 2011 on an independent Ducati. TITANIC TRIO: inseparable all season The theme of the 2022 season was the fierce battling between Bautista, Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) and this was summed up well at the Estoril Round in May, when all three races featured a last-lap showdown; Bautista claimed one victory and two podiums there. There was the Tissot Superpole Race fight between Bautista and Razgatlioglu at Portimao which will go down as one of the best tactical fights, while there was a similar fight in San Juan between the pair, also with Rea. In Race 2 at San Juan, Bautista had to fend off a charging Razgatlioglu to claim a hard-fought victory that helped him put one hand on the title. HIGHS AND LOWS: bouncing back in style Like every rider fighting for a Championship, there were highs and lows for Bautista. A crash at Donington Park in Race 1 led to speculation about a repeat of 2019, but he soon put those talks to bed with fourth in the Superpole Race and a second in Race 2 at a track he did not expect to be so competitive at. The other low for Bautista came at Magny-Cours in Race 2 after a crash with Rea took him out of the race; Rea was penalised for his role in the collision. On this occasion, Bautista’s bouncing back would have to wait two weeks but he did so in Barcelona has he took a triumphant hat-trick to extend his Championship lead once again in a weekend where he looked untouchable. LESSONS LEARNED: how Honda difficulties helped in 2022 Two years at Honda helped Bautista become the title-winning rider he is today, something both he and his crew chief have made reference to throughout 2022. Bautista spoke about it in the build-up to the dramatic French Round in a feature interview, whilst crew chief Giulio Nava discussed it in the summer. More experience in WorldSBK, meaning Bautista knows the tracks and tyres more, have helped but Nava also explained why two years at Honda is helping Ducati now. He said, in July: “On that bike, it was further from the top and the bike can only provide until a certain level to be closer to the top, and at the same time he needed to train himself to stay on the limit every time. Now with Ducati, he can find the limit and he can go 3%, 4%, 5% from the limit. When he wants or needs it, he has that 5% to play with.” THE FIRST: Panigale V4 R has its first Championship… 2022 marks a momentous moment for Ducati as they took the first title with the ‘Panigale’ moniker on one of their bikes. Introduced for racing in 2013, Carlos Checa took the 1199 Panigale to pole position in its first outing, while Ayrton Badovini claimed a podium with the bike. The Panigale R came into WorldSBK for 2015 with five wins and 25 podiums in its debut season with Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano. More wins and podiums followed but no title before the Panigale V4 R was introduced in 2019. Like its predecessor, the bike was a race winner from the start, but it would take until 2022 before it claimed a title with Bautista’s success.

TheReturn is complete: Bautista crowned 2022 WorldSBK Champion, Razgatlioglu takes Mandalika hat-trick Sunday, 13 November 2022 Spanish rider Alvaro Bautista became the first Ducati rider since Carlos Checa in 2011 to take the WorldSBK title The fight for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship crown came to a thrilling conclusion at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit as Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) took the title after finishing in second place in Race 2 during the Pirelli Indonesian Round. Despite Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) claiming a hat-trick in Indonesia with victory in Race 2, Bautista’s second-place finish was enough for the Spanish rider to take the Championship with a round to spare. A CHAMPION CROWNED: Bautista is the 2022 Champion Bautista headed into Race 2 knowing a podium finish would secure him the title or losing less than nine points to Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) and he did enough to secure to take his first title in WorldSBK. In doing so, he becomes the third different rider from a third different manufacturer in three seasons to claim the title, after Razgatlioglu and Yamaha in 2021 and Rea and Kawasaki in 2020. The fight for the Championship title also turned out to be the fight for victory in Indonesia, with Razgatlioglu moving into the lead of the race on Lap 6 as he passed Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) at Turn 10 after Rea moved into the lead in the opening stages of the race. With Bautista in third at this point, behind Rea, he instantly latched onto the back of the six-time Champion and went through on Rea at Turn 10 on Lap 7 as he took advantage of Rea running onto the kerbs through Turns 8 and 9. The duo went head-to-head in the final third of the race to claim victory, which allowed Rea to close back in on Bautista and Razgatlioglu. Bautista closed the gap before the battle ignited on Lap 14. Bautista made a move at Turn 1 to move into the lead as he looked to win the Championship with a victory, before Razgatlioglu responded into Turn 10. Through Turns 14 and 15, Bautista made a stunning move for the lead. He remained there for a short while but Razgatlioglu responded at Turn 10 on Lap 16 to re-take the lead, before extending his lead to over one second for victory with Bautista in second. Razgatlioglu’s victory gave him his 32nd WorldSBK win and his 14th of the year which puts him level on wins for a season for Yamaha with 2009 Champion Ben Spies, while Bautista’s Championship-winning second place was his 56th podium in WorldSBK including the 29th of his 2022 campaign. Bautista winning the title also meant it became the first time in history that Ducati claimed both the WorldSBK and MotoGP™ Riders’ Championships in the same season. FIGHTING HARD: podium fights and battles for fourth… Rea found himself in fourth place, behind Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) but made a move on Lap 11 at Turn 12 to move back into the podium places before pulling out a gap over Bassani, coming home to take third place for his 200th podium with Kawasaki, while it was also Kawasaki’s 400th race on the podium. Bassani dropped behind Rea and ended up in a battle with Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) for fourth place. It would be Locatelli who claimed fourth place after a strong weekend for the Italian, finishing just six tenths ahead of Bassani in fifth place; in the Tissot Superpole Race, Bassani was crowned the Best Independent Rider for 2022. ROUNDING OUT THE TOP TEN: ending the round in style Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) claimed sixth place ahead of Xavi Vierge (Team HRC) in seventh place with all five manufacturers in the top seven positions in Race 2. Redding was four seconds down on Bassani after he had a run off the track at Turn 16 on Lap 6 but he fought back to take sixth ahead of Vierge. American star Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) took eighth spot, two seconds behind Vierge, ahead of Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK); Lowes was just four tenths behind Gerloff at the end of the 21-lap race. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) rounded out the top ten. TAKING HOME POINTS: a first-time points scorer, strong results throughout Xavi Fores’ (BARNI Spark Racing Team) return to WorldSBK and the Barni Ducati team continued with 11th place in Race 2 as he scored more points. He had a late-race fight with Dutch rider Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) with the pair separated by just 0.238s at the end of the race. French rider Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) was 13th, almost 14 seconds down on BMW stablemate van der Mark, while Hafizh Syahrin (MIE Racing Honda Team) and Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) in 15th; the Czech rider claiming his first point in WorldSBK. Eugene Laverty (Bonovo Action BMW) was 16th, 1.458s down on Konig for a point, while Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) was the last classified rider in 17th place. HOUSEKEEPING: to note from WorldSBK Race 2 Kohta Nozane (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) retired from the race following a crash at Turn 11 on Lap 11, while Kyle Smith’s (TPR Team Pedercini Racing) debut weekend ended with a crash at Turn 7 on Lap 14 which put him out of the race. Philipp Oettl (Team Goeleven) was declared unfit ahead of Race 2 following a crash earlier in the weekend, with Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) also on the sidelines after he was diagnosed with a right ankle sprain following an FP3 crash on Saturday. Mat Oxley: Congratulations to Ducati for completing the MotoGP/WSB double, with Alvaro Bautista at Mandalika today. Ducati is the third factory to do the double, after Honda (1989, 1997 & 2002) and Yamaha (2009 & 2021)
