Agreed.
But I didn't say anything about batteries being on fire.
"Back when they had engines....", not "ICU's".
I guess we got the biggest PU 'kerblammo' we are going to see with LeClerc smoke plume out the ICE's exhaust pipe last week. Really want to see a 'kerblammo' involving both the ICE & battery! Yeah. Miss the days when races were won on stuck 5th gears, or when piston rings no longer sealed or when a conrod took out the tire of the car behind. Nowadays a leak on the battery radiator overheats the DRS airflow to the trasmission fluid heater. A total mood killer.

Points are much harder to come by in the 21st Century since the reliability of the field is so high. Back in the foggy mists of history, quite a number of drivers scored points only because those on the pointed end of the grid failed to finish for any of a variety of mechanical issues. Yesterday we had 10% mechanical failure and 5% Brain Fade. 85% of the field still running and thanks to the Safety Car, all on the lead lap. That was unheard of in the days of yore!

Some people (not here, iirc) have been really making a big deal about Alonso wanting past Ocon, calling him entitled, egotistical, etc because of it. Of course, this is just the usual bit his detractors pull, using common radio comments and common infractions as proof that he's evil, even though we see this kind of stuff from pretty much everyone on the grid. The thing with the radio call was that he wasn't ever told that Ocon was slowing to help keep Alonso in his DRS. So Alonso, much like myself and others, thought that Ocon was just slow. I'm guessing that almost anyone out there (or on the internet) would make a similar radio call when they've been markedly quicker all weekend and pretty much the entire season, when they don't know the teammate is slowing intentionally, and when they do know that they are yet again experiencing a mechanical that's putting them behind him - the latest in a crazy series of setbacks. Here's Alonso's radio traffic for the entire race. Very informative video. Really paints a picture of what a stressful day in the cockpit it was for Alonso & how he was a bit in the dark at times. Really feel for him during this incredible run of bad luck. His performance hasn’t suffered. If anything, he’s been even better this year than last. Team orders, unreliability, 5-minute pit stops and ignorant strategy have held him back. But I’m proud of him.

ALONSO ON THE FRONT ROW!!!!! I do not have the words for how happy this makes me. And I don't even have to work tomorrow. Hooray! Alonso qualifying 2nd at my favorite Grand Prix is a highlight for this year. I don’t usually post in here on race days, but yeah, I had to mention how stoked I was for him. An absolutely IMMENSE lap. And Jacques interviewing him afterwards made it even better. Felt like a win

Hand signals for information drivers want to give the pits.

All that should be needed.
