Circuito San Juan Villicum, San Juan, Argentina WorldSBK™ arrived in Argentina in 2018, with the San Juan Villicum circuit in the western province of San Juan becoming the host venue for the Motul Argentinian Round. San Juan, with its Circuito San Juan Villicum and after being part of other events, has become one of the main motorsport venues of Argentina. Its mainly mountainous relief interspersed by valleys and crossings under a mild dry climate makes it an ideal place for all kind of sportive activities.

Razgatlioglu responds to Rea: "If he speaks it is because he is pissed off by the World Cup"
Toprak Razgatlioglu responds to Jonathan Rea's accusations in which he called him aggressive for his latest actions on the track. However, the Yamaha rider recognizes that he is not going to change his riding style. It seems that what they say about him enters one ear and comes out the other. Toprak Razgatlioglu turns a deaf ear to Jonathan Rea's comments about his aggressiveness on the track, especially after their last meeting in Portimao. The Yamaha says that it will stay true to its style and that, what the Kawasaki says, it does not interest him. Without top rivals for the WorldSBK World Cup this year, distanced by 24 points with two appointments to go before the final touch of the tightest course in recent years. And is that Rea has met a rider who can break the hegemony that he had imposed on Superbikes for seven years.
Rea: "I'm ready, I didn't win once in Argentina": "The goal is to get back on the track by proving to be as strong as in Portimao, I'm thinking about the World Championship and taking it to the last race in Indonesia"
Bitter final for Sykes with BMW: Argentina also skips: Tom: “Unfortunately I won't be racing this weekend either, all of this is difficult to accept. However, I have many things to say and I'll do it soon "

The first opportunity of gold in the land of silver: WorldSBK hits San Juan Monday, 11 October 2021 Another tango awaits as the Championship tussle heads to the Andes, where the race to the WorldSBK summit is on The 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship arrives in Argentina and the Circuito San Juan Villicum in San Juan for the Motul Argentinean Round. Lying at the foot of the Andes and in one of the most picturesque backdrops on the calendar, one question lies ahead: who will reach the peak in WorldSBK this year? Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) has the Championship lead by 24 points, ahead of Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), making Argentina his first match-point of the season. Rea aims narrow the margin and keep the title race alive, but who knows what will happen in one of the most unpredictable seasons in WorldSBK history. RAZGATLIOGLU VS REA: a fierce rivalry heads to South America With a 24-point lead heading into Argentina, Toprak Razgatlioglu can mathematically clinch the title this weekend. In short, Razgatlioglu must lead by 62 points or more heading to Indonesia, even with countback taken into consideration. He has ten full race wins, compared to Rea current five so even if Rea won the remaining four full races and it finished level, Toprak already has a countback lead in his pocket. For the possibility of Toprak clinching the Championship on Sunday, he must finish ahead of Rea in Race 1 (or score one point more than him as a minimum). That means if Rea wins Race 1, the title race is guaranteed to go to Indonesia. In terms of San Juan form, Razgatlioglu took a second podium of his career in WorldSBK’s first race there in 2018 and took three rostrums in 2019. Teammate Andrea Locatelli has never seen this track, so it’ll be a totally new experience for him. Whilst Toprak must beat Rea to have a shot at the title on Sunday, Jonathan Rea must beat Razgatlioglu in Race 1 to guarantee the title race goes to Indonesia. The defending six-time World Champion has won four of the five races held at San Juan and he’s been on the podium in all of them – joined by Toprak in four. Rea has momentum as despite crashing out of the lead twice at Portimao, he did manage to take victory in Race 2 whereas Toprak crashed due to a mechanical failure. The Ulsterman has a pivotal Saturday ahead, coincidentally Toprak’s birthday, as he goes to retain his crown. However, there’s yet to be confirmation that teammate Alex Lowes will attend, having been declared unfit after FP2 at Portimao. Will Lowes, if fit, be the perfect wingman in Argentina? DUCATI: aiming to keep title aspirations alive Waiting to pick up the pieces and vastly making up ground, Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) is still in Championship contention. 54 points back of the #54 of Razgatlioglu and on the podium in all of the last six races, and in eight of the last nine, Redding can’t be more than 61 points back of Razgatlioglu after Sunday. Redding closed the gap by 20 points at Portimao and with the kind of form he’s in, he may be able to do more in Argentina, even if it’s a new track for him. Teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi can never be ruled out, even after tricky rounds at Jerez and Portimao. He’s never had a top ten in Argentina but will need to perform if he’s to consolidate his top four in the Championship, which he shares with Locatelli; both on 249 points and eager to push on. BMW AND HONDA: both in the podium battle After a first win in eight years, BMW arrive in Argentina with plenty of reason to smile. Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) stormed to a Superpole Race win in the wet at Portimao and was a solid top six contender all weekend. He’s now sixth in the Championship standings, 38 points adrift of Rinaldi and Locatelli ahead of him. However, anything can happen; van der Mark’s last visit to Argentina resulted in him finishing fourth in the full races and then sixth in the Superpole Race. On the other side of the box, Tom Sykes is out once more; Eugene Laverty, his replacement, has had a top five at the Circuito San Juan Villicum, and was seventh in his most recent race there in 2019, aiming to replicate that this weekend. It was a story of ‘what could’ve been’ for Honda at Portimao, with Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC) once again showing podium potential. Unfortunately, the promise was left unfulfilled as Bautista crashed from third in the last corner of the last lap in Race 1 before he was taken out by Loris Baz two laps from home. Bautista heads to San Juan with the same potential, and he won on his first visit to San Juan in 2019. With big gains and podium aims, Bautista is keen to make up ground in the standings and get more rostrums to his name. Then, there’s Leon Haslam (Team HRC), with the British rider going in search of back-to-back front rows for the first time since Aragon and Assen back in 2015. He’ll also hope to add his name to the podium this weekend, having been in the mix at Portimao. INDEPENDENTS: a battle at the front and a taste of homecoming success… The Independent battle is set to rage again as Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) aims to consolidate his lead position. Gerloff is eighth in the standings and just six points behind the factory Kawasaki of Alex Lowes. Behind Gerloff and keeping him in his sights, Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) continues to be a revelation of recent rounds and will make his Argentina debut this weekend; he’s 24 points behind Gerloff, neither having been to the Circuito San Juan Villicum. With Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) hopeful of a return to action, he’s aiming to be competitive as he bounces back from injury; Kohta Nozane (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) will also debut in San Juan. The Kawasaki Puccetti Racing squad have Tito Rabat for the Motul Argentinean Round as he too makes his San Juan debut, whereas Isaac Viñales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) returns to a track where he took third back in 2019’s WorldSSP season. Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport – Yamaha) is next up and will make his first appearance at the track in WorldSBK, whereas home-hero Leandro ‘Tati’ Mercado will be flying the Argentine flag high as he hopes to maintain his good form, having returned to the top eight in Portugal. Loris Cresson (OUTDO TPR Team Pedercini Racing) is out of the Motul Argentinean Round after his Portimao injuries, being replaced by Marco Solorza, the Argentine having raced in a variety of Championships from the FIM European Superstock Championship to the Spanish Superbike class. His teammate will be another Argentine rider; Luciano Ribodino debuts in WorldSBK, the 27-year-old being the 2017 Argentine Superbike champion as well as the Brazilian Superbike champion in the same year.

Razgatlioglu leads by half a second in FP1, Rea third on WorldSBK’s San Juan return Friday, 15 October 2021 The first time he’d seen the Circuito San Juan Villicum on a Yamaha, Toprak Razgatlioglu wasn’t troubled as he led the way in Argentina on Friday morning The 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s Motul Argentinean Round fired into life on Friday morning, with the Circuito San Juan Villicum playing host to the penultimate round of the season. After a sandstorm on Thursday, the track took some cleaning as the riders took to the circuit for the first time, although progress was made and soon the track is fine condition. After a short delay due to technical issues, the first overseas round since Phillip Island in 2020 was underway and it was Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) who led the way by over half a second. Toprak Razgatlioglu was the first rider into the 1’39s bracket and was in the 1’38s in the closing stages, setting a 1’38.524 to lead the way by over half a second. Scott Redding’s (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) San Juan debut was solid as he learnt his way around the track. He was inside the top three for the final moments, concluding in second place with a late last lap. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) left it 15 minutes before he took to the track, allowing a racing line to form and rubber in. Rea was on Toprak’s case and despite leading briefly at the end, finished third. Teammate Alex Lowes returned to action in fourth, whilst it was top Independent honours went to revelation Isaac Viñales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura), who was fifth Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was sixth with a late surge up the order, whilst there were plenty of Ducatis in the mix. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) took seventh, one place ahead of Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) put a fast lap in on his return to action, finishing in eighth. Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC) was ninth ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) who completed the top ten. Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) was also impressive as he set a string of fast laps at the end of the session, finishing in 12th come the end of a late shuffle, whilst top BMW was Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) in 13th, having led the way in the very early stages. Home-hero Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) was in 15th, as he looks to put on a good display in front of his local fans.

Rea vows to bounce back after ‘frustrating’ FP2 crash Friday, 15 October 2021 The San Juan weekend got off to a rocky start at the foot of the Andes for Jonathan Rea, as he suffered a big crash in FP2 whilst Toprak Razgatlioglu ran riot at the front The 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s opening day of action at the Motul Argentinean Round at the Circuito San Juan Villicum was a dramatic one for Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), as the six-time World Champion crashed at Turn 6 in FP2 and was unable to complete the session with the bike being too badly damaged. To make matters worse, Championship leader and Rea’s main title rival Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) topped the session with an electric pace, dominating day one. Rea was settling into the session and after the first 15 minutes, was already up inside the top three, having finished in third in FP1. However, Rea crashed at Turn 6, tucking the front under braking as he rolled through Turn 6 and into Turn 7. Rea’s bike barrel-rolled through the gravel and was badly damaged, whilst Rea was able to walk away. However, with the bike being too badly damaged, he wasn’t able to get back out in the session as he finished fifth overall and lost out on valuable track time. Speaking about the crash, Rea said: “I’m frustrated really because we lost a lot of time in the session; I went down quite early in the first 15 minutes of the session. I just rolled in towards the backstraight on the entry and just lost the front. I was building my confidence step-by-step and overstepped the mark. I am not sure if I was off-line on the dirty part of the track or just a little bit too much braking and then went down. The bike wasn’t salvageable to get back, so we lost out on the full session.” Attention then turned to tyres, as Rea wasn’t able to use the soft tyre having missed the remainder of the session: “We never got the chance to use the soft tyre, as it seems that’s bringing a little bit of time for everybody, but we still have tomorrow. Alex was able to do a complete run on it so we have some information on it for tomorrow. The bike is working well, the track has rubbered in well compared to previous years I’ve ridden here so it is quite consistent and fast; let’s see what happens tomorrow.”

Razgatlioglu: "I don't like to see Rea fall, it's better to fight on the track": The Turk closes the lead on Friday at Villicum: "When I saw him get up, I calmed down. We are fighting hard, but I don't know for a fall of one rival.

Redding takes first pole of 2021 ahead of Razgatlioglu, mistakes cost Rea in 5th Saturday, 16 October 2021 In what was the 150th pole for Great Britain, Scott Redding gave Ducati their first pole of the season, whilst there was a huge surprise on – and off – the front row… The 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s penultimate Tissot Superpole session of the season erupted as the Motul Argentinean Round at the Circuito San Juan Villicum continued to unfold. Having set the pace through every single Free Practice session, Championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) was the favourite for pole position, but it was Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) who stormed to pole, his first in over a year. STORY OF THE SESSION: strategy is key As the green flag waved, riders took to the track for their first run and their first Superpole session in San Juan since 2019. Razgatlioglu, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and teammate Alex Lowes were on the Q tyre straight away, along with the likes of Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team), Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK). After the first runs were done, Razgatlioglu led the way ahead of Rea and Locatelli, with Lowes and Gerloff fourth and fifth ahead of an impressive Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing). Rea made a mistake on his second flying lap before returning to the pitlane, whilst Toprak, Locatelli and Gerloff all improved on their second flying lap, meaning Rea had time to find and potential to do it. Lying slightly outside of everyone else’s schedule was Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), who originally went out with a race tyre before he put in a Q tyre in the final eight minutes and was looking good, setting overall best sector times, taking provisional pole. With less than five minutes to go, everyone was out for their second runs, everyone else was also on their next run with Q tyres, with Lowes moving into third before Bassani moved into third with two minutes to go. Jonathan Rea made a mistake on his first lap of his second run, meaning he now had to push on during his second lap, something he didn’t do on his first run. The first crasher of the session was home-hero Leandro ‘Tati’ Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team), going down at Turn 2; he was OK and walked away. YELLOW FLAGS: little improvement Mercado’s crash brought out the yellow flags, meaning that there was nobody else who was on a ‘live’ lap, so pole position went to San Juan debutant Scott Redding, his first pole position of the season and his first since Jerez last year – his only other pole. Redding’s pole is also the 150th for Great Britain in WorldSBK and Ducati’s third consecutive in Argentina. Razgatlioglu wasn’t able to capitalise on his pace as he could only manage second place, albeit the fifth consecutive front row start for the Turkish rider, whilst it was a sublime performance for Axel Bassani, taking third place and became the 152nd rider to get a front row after WorldSBK Superpole and the 25th from Italy. ROW TWO: the title flight to come from there? On the second row of the grid and the first Kawasaki, Alex Lowes was able to hold off his teammate Jonathan Rea. Rea’s mistakes on both his runs mean that his time isn’t indicative of the potential he had, as he misses the front row for the first time since he was 16th at Estoril in 2020. It was an impressive sixth place for Andrea Locatelli, as the Italian rookie took a solid starting position on his San Juan debut; he will look to get in and amongst the fight with the Kawasakis he starts alongside. ACTION-PACKED ROW 3 AND 4: watch for a surprise Heading up the third row of the grid, Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) was on the second row until the closing stages and with another third row start for van der Mark, he’ll be primed for a strong set of races. Eighth place went to Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team), with the American making a solid San Juan debut ahead of Michael Ruben Rinaldi, who failed to make a strong impression in the battle for pole. Leon Haslam (Team HRC) made it five manufacturers inside the top ten as he took tenth and heads up row four. Isaac Viñales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) and Eugene Laverty (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) join Haslam on the fourth row. BEST OF THE REST: Davies and Bautista out of position Chaz Davies was 13th and less than a second from pole, ahead of Mercado who in the end, despite crashing, didn’t lose too many positions. The big surprise was that Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC) was mired all the way down in 15th place, less than half a tenth ahead of Samuele Cavalieri (Barni Racing Team). Kohta Nozane (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) took 17th ahead of Tito Rabat (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing), with Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport Yamaha), Luciano Ribodino (OUTDO TPR Team Pedercini Racing) and teammate Marco Solorza bringing up the rear.
