Porsche will have a full year of testing under its belt with the new car and everyone else will unveil their cars sometimes this year with a fraction of the testing come Daytona in January? I guess Toyota will have two full seasons with their car along with Glickenhaus, I am assuming next year will be a two horse race with Toyota and Porsche and I wouldn't be surprised if Porsche is well in front come the middle of the WEC/IMSA seasons.

Lamborghini Joining IMSA GTP Class in 2024 with LMDh PrototypeThe Italian Marque Becomes the Fifth Manufacturer to Commit to the New Top-Tier WeatherTech Championship ClassDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Lamborghini will join the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s new Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class in 2024 with an LMDh prototype. Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the automaker’s motorsports division, announced Tuesday that it will field cars in both the WeatherTech Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) beginning in 2024. The GTP class debuts in the WeatherTech Championship in 2023, replacing Daytona Prototype international (DPi) as the most technologically advanced class in the series. The Lamborghini announcement marks a major advancement for the Italian sports car manufacturer, adding to its commitment to IMSA. Lamborghini began competing in the WeatherTech Championship GT Daytona (GTD) class in 2016. IMSA has also sanctioned and operated the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America single-make series since 2013. “This step up into the highest echelon of sports car racing marks an important milestone for our company,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini chairman and CEO. “We will be measuring ourselves against the very best, on the most demanding proving grounds.” The addition of Lamborghini brings the number of manufacturers committed to producing LMDh cars for the GTP class to five. Acura, BMW, Cadillac and Porsche previously announced plans to join the class in 2023. www.imsa.com/news/2022/05/17/lamborghini-joining-imsa-gtp-class-in-2024-with-lmdh-prototype/?fbclid=IwAR1RwZRgzMeDpQWHkSnpWZtnpoto0gqECKq123Yp-TQz0DStpLa5A9R63_o

Hypercar/ GTP Catch-Up – Ferrari Information has been in pretty short supply on the progress with Ferrari’s planned 2023 Hypercar entry on to the FIA WEC, but there are a few pieces coming together. Firstly, despite some internet rumours, the programme is very much alive. There will be two cars, planned for the full 2023 season in FIA WEC with additional races in IMSA being evaluated but not confirmed. This will be Ferrari’s first top class sportscar entry as a factory for 50 years. There will be two cars only in 2023, no customer cars are planned for at least the first season, and they will be run, as announced, by AF Corse. The design is complete, and build and testing of the hybrid drivetrain is progressing with track testing currently due to begin in July with a full test programme mapped out after the traditional Fiorano roll-out. The car will feature Ferrari road car styling cues but will be a pure race machine – echoes of late Group C era styling are understood to be part of the low slung look of the car with a wing well to the rear. The recent Italian magazine ‘spy’ render was greeted by one insider DSC source with pretty much utter disdain! No date has even been teased for a public unveiling of the car but some form of significant programme update during Le Mans week is looking distinctly likely. On the driver front, again no formal announcement has been made but several current members of the Ferrari GT Competizione squad are believed to be in the mix along with others from the extended Ferrari racing family.

Hypercar/ GTP Goes Into Overdrive In Le Mans Week – BMW & Cadillac ‘Reveals’ – And MoreThe Le Mans 24 Hours is always a carnival of track action and off-track ‘happenings but the return of a full crowd, and the looming datelines for the explosion of the Hypercar class for the FIA WEC and GTP in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship have combined this year for a few days that should answer plenty of the questions about just what are going to see and when in the very near future. We already have confirmation that Cadillac will make a significant announcement about their LMDH programme next Thursday (9 June), with a car confirmed to be bound for both the WEC and IMSA, and yesterday BMW confirmed that they too will reveal their LMDH next week (Monday 6 June). That’s interesting timing from BMW who, to this point, have only confirmed an IMSA programme for the new car. The German manufacturer are known though to have been courted by multiple WEC players – with WRT understood to be the closest to what is expected to be a wide-ranging deal in the wake of the evaporation of their plans to field the now cancelled Audi effort in the FIA WEC. More of that later this week. Elsewhere the new Peugeot 9X8 will be on public display at Le Mans ahead of its race debut next month at Monza and there’s every possibility that Porsche will show their now much-tested LMDH car too. No confirmation yet that there will be any news from Ferrari but their LMH car is set to test next month for the first time – a further release of information in front of the biggest sportscar audience on the planet would be somewhat timely! Either way there will be no shortage of news as the sport hunkers down to prepare for a brand new and very exciting era! www.dailysportscar.com/2022/06/01/hypercar-gtp-goes-into-overdrive-in-le-mans-week-bmw-cadillac-reveals-and-more.html?fbclid=IwAR3z_darSanqTGamTGI1E7qNSzsoWLy11V7cGy_WbRh8haIs-Qq9VyCxmVA

BMW reveals M Hybrid V8 LMDh carBMW has revealed the design of it’s Dallara-based LMDh car that will be run by BMW M Team RLL run in the GTP category of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, albeit with a camouflage livery designed to obscure some key elements. Dubbed the M Hybrid V8, the look of the car includes the iconic twin-kidney grill came from BMW Group Designworks and is designed to celebrate the history of BMW M Motorsport in North America. While few details were revealed, the name of the car suggests a V8 engine will be mated with the spec hybrid unit. “The most critical task and the greatest challenge for the design team in the LMDh program design team was that the prototype must be clearly recognizable as a BMW M Motorsport car,” said Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “And I can say this to all the fans, just one look is enough to confirm that the BMW M Hybrid V8 is a BMW. It clearly carries the genes of BMW M. “I also love the camouflage livery with its references to the great history of the brand in North America. Congratulations to the design and aerodynamics departments at BMW M Motorsport and Dallara on their great work. I can hardly wait to see the BMW M Hybrid V8 on the track soon.” racer.com/2022/06/06/bmw-reveals-m-hybrid-v8-lmdh-car/?utm_source=RACER+%2F%2F+Newsletter&utm_campaign=6e1c40c763-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2022_06_06_08_34&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_76623d07b6-6e1c40c763-274287873
