Aunty's Tires
Goodyear Fast Facts -- Pocono
NASCAR Xfinity Series - Race No. 12 - Pocono Green 250 Pocono Raceway (2.5-mile triangle) - Long Pond, Pa. Fast Facts for June 1-3, 2018
Tire: Goodyear Eagle Speedway Radials
Set limits: Cup: 3 sets for practice, 1 set for qualifying and 7 sets for the race; Xfinity: 6 sets for the event
Tire Codes: Left-side -- D-4744; Right-side -- D-4710
Tire Circumference: Left-side -- 2,227 mm (87.68 in.); Right-side -- 2,241 mm (88.23 in.)
Minimum Recommended Inflation: Left Front -- 18 psi; Left Rear -- 18 psi; Right Front -- 41 psi; Right Rear -- 37 psi
Storyline - Goodyear integrates short track and speedway elements into Pocono tire set-up: Pocono is truly a three-corner track, with each one based on a different race track - Turn 1 on the former Trenton Speedway, Turn 2 on Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Turn 3 on The Milwaukee Mile. The challenges that stand out for Goodyear is that the track is high speed, but is also relatively flat. That forces Goodyear to bring a tire set-up that features a left-side tire that helps the cars with grip, while the right-side tire features a hybrid construction with some characteristics of a short track tire (grip) and a speedway tire (durability).
"Pocono is obviously one of the most unique tracks on the NASCAR schedule," said Greg Stucker, Goodyear's director of racing. "With its three distinct corners, long front straightaway and relative lack of banking, we need to bring a tire set-up that handles all those demanding conditions. Being two-and-a-half miles in length, the speeds that are generated require that we bring elements of a speedway set-up, but the flat banking and cornering needs also dictate that we provide the grip needed on a short track. This new left-side tire we are bringing to Pocono incorporates a construction update we've been rolling into a lot of the speedways this season, and that will help in both of those areas."
Notes - New left-side tire debuts at Pocono: Teams in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series will run the same tire set-up at Pocono this weekend . . . this is the same right-side tire code these teams ran at Pocono last season, with a new left-side code . . . compared to what was run in 2017, this left-side features a construction update to align it with what is run at other speedways . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners on all four tire positions at Pocono . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

Cars racing at Pocono should not have restrictor plates, the track is 'slow' enough as it is.
"Running nose to tail down the front straightaway and then trying to make a move once they draft." -Kyle Busch radio describing how the package is working behind him

Bob Pockrass @bobpockrass
That will help Ky/Busch/Bell/other penalty cars as they will now restart ahead of the lap-down cars, about 10 spots ahead of where they restarted the last time
