I hesitate to post this here, but it does appear on the official Formula 1 website. From my perspective, Hamilton has defeated his teammate 4 out of 5 years in a dominant race car, and that is his claim to fame. He probably ranks in the top 10 or top 20 of all time, but there are so many that are and were at least as good that best of all time is just ridiculous.

He also won world titles in two different cars. Vettel has not yet done that. In his rookie season he beat a former WDC Fernando Alonso in the same car. In his ROOKIE season in F1. Nine consecutive podium finishes that year as well. In his second year in F1 he won the WDC. He beat three teammates that were WDCs. So is he the greatest of all time? Meh. But he's clearly accomplished enough to be ranked up there in the top five. To me Schumacher will always be #1.

Sorry but Lulu is no Fangio.
Fangio would not have lost a championship to a Rosberg on the fastest car of the grid.
Hamilton landed top rides throughout his career. Call him visionary or lucky but he is most likely the later.
This year is probably his best. He finally won a WDC with the fastest car of the grid prior to the last race. However, I am not sure if it was due to maturity or because the team rolled his teammate to him as a carpet. To his credit he is one of the fastest qualifiers out there and a very combative racer.
Hopefully we will see a from him a more mature driver who manages to win on a not so dominant car in the next few years.

Of the first ten races Merc only won three. Ferrari won four, RB won three. Ferrari should have won more this season but they blew it.

Ferrari should have won more this season but they blew it. You could also say Mercedes should have won races. Of course, they could always have won more. But Vettel crashed out of the lead at least once, and had several other unforced errors. They had the car to win.

...They had the car to win. Easy to say, difficult to prove.

Simple; it is my informed opinion, and that of many others, that Ferrari had the car to win this year.

None of the ifs and buts mean anything and Hamilton is now a 5x WC, looking into how things could have played out is summarized below.
Going back to Germany his gap to Lewis was +8 from Germany to today they potentially lost 54 points had they finished where the car was capable of based off Kimis finishing position or the pace of the car during the race weekend. Looking at the issues during Germany, Italy, Japan and the US he would potentially be 18 points behind going into Brazil if Baku is included a race he could have won there is another 13 points they potentially left on the table making the gap going into Brazil 5.
The potential for them to win this year was there the execution from the team was not.
