As far as Penske running his own teams in Indy Car in spite of being owner of the sanctioning body, well, Don Panoz did the same thing in IMSA from 1999 at least until 2006. And wasn't there this thing called 'Vision Racing'?

Apparently Hulman Co. sought out Roger to be the buyer.

I'd rather see Penske and an American driver go F1 than F1 come to Penske/Indy again. Maybe there's a deal there somewhere.

I can't imagine this was TG's idea. IMS and the Hulman legacy were his whole raison d'etre.

Couple interesting things from Roger Penske that is gonna stir up the fans: 1. Guaranteed starting spots are coming for fulltime Indy Car teams at the Indy 500. 2. Wants an Indy Car/NASCAR doubleheader. 3. Pursuit of a third engine supplier one of top 10 items. 4. More presence in Canada 5. Wants to install lights at IMS. #1 will cause some heads to explode. 🤣 I can see merit in all of them.

I can't imagine this was TG's idea. Â IMS and the Hulman legacy were his whole raison d'etre. Â Â Sounds like Mari refused to sell off the family business interests while alive. Now the kids (silver spooned their entire lives) want their trust funds without having to work for it. All the Hulman family businesses have been sold to the highest bidder since her death (Clabber Girl sold for $80 million back in May).

Assuming Roger would want equal billing, would NASCAR be willing to concede it's self declared position as the unquestioned dominate American racing series? I really don't like the idea of superteams, will Roger expand that trend or limit it? Lastly, Roger is really old. What happens when he passes? Is there a successor who can fill his shoes?

#1 goal is to protect the financial and sponsor interests of the teams that are running the entire Indy Car schedule, not just cherry picking the 500. I look at it like a charter system, without paying for a charter. The idea is to get more fulltime entrants with the incentive of getting a guaranteed starting spot in the Indy 500. The likelihood of gaining 33 fulltime entrants is kinda of slim so you might have a shootout for 5 spots at Indy. They may even cap the fulltime entry list to, say, 28 since most circuits have pit stalls for that may cars.

Penske is a large corporation that will continue on long after his death. I am pretty sure Roger has that covered.

Guaranteed starting spots are coming for fulltime Indy Car teams at the Indy 500. Sounds strangely familiar... Wouldn't it be ironic if there were 25 spots available to IRL (I mean IndyCar) regulars, and 8 spots for everyone else?

RM says it is rumored that IMS and Indy Car sold for $2 billion.
Another rumor I heard is TG approached RP about buying them to avoid a hostile takeover from another party.

LOL, Not worth the paper they are written on. NASCAR sold the teams a bill of goods now they are not needed. Roger is anything but dumb. He won't be going that route.

RM had a tip that Penske or Liberty Media was trying to buy IMS last week. No one he reached out to, would return his calls to verify it.
I mentioned earlier the rumor was the George kids were trying to stave off a hostile takeover but from whom?

I'll bet the hostile takeover was Liberty.

I have heard some rumors the selling price was around $500 million which seems a little more realistic than $2 billion RM was hearing floated around.
