KRT HEADS TO CENTRAL EUROPE The eighth round of the WorldSBK Championship will take place at the Autodrom Most circuit in the Czech Republic between 28-30 July, with KRT riders Rea and Lowes keen to put in strong performances before the start of a long summer break in race action.

PREVIEW: Bulega vs Manzi as Most beckons and another swing of the pendulum readies Tuesday, 25 July 2023 WorldSSP heads east from Italy to the Czech Republic and there’s plenty of drama to be expected at the Autodrom Most Two weeks on from an incredible FIM Supersport World Championship weekend at Imola and the Championship bursts back into action at the Autodrom Most for the Acerbis Czech Round. It’s a circuit that has provided plenty of drama in the past two years and 2023 promises more of the same as the title race intensifies. Stefano Manzi (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) took a chunk out of Nicolo Bulega’s (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) standings lead and Most has, traditionally, been a Yamaha circuit with surprises never far away – will it serve as another pivotal round this year? HAS THE MOMENTUM CHANGED? Manzi’s double puts pressure on Bulega Bulega headed into Imola with a 55-point lead in the title fight, but a Manzi double slashed that to just 41 points; the pair head into Round 8 with their own ambitions, and whilst 41 remains a lot, it can be sliced further in a blink of an eye. Yamaha have won all four races held with Steven Odendaal, Dominque Aegerter and Lorenzo Baldassarri sharing them, while pole position has only been held by Yamaha riders. Will Manzi reduce the gap further heading into the summer break, or can Bulega break Yamaha’s Most dominance? There’s only been one Ducati podium, coming from Bulega last year, whilst Manzi was keen to shine on the Triumph 12 months ago with a double podium. The form guide is pointing to Manzi making more ground up. A DEBUTANT HOPING TO SHINE: can Dalla Porta lead Evan Bros. back to the top at Most? Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) will make his debut at the Autodrom Most as he steps in for the rest of 2023 in place of Andrea Mantovani at the challenging Czech circuit, and he’ll be aiming to take the Evan Bros. Yamaha squad back to the top of WorldSSP. The team won twice at Most in 2022 thanks to Baldassarri whilst Steven Odendaal gave them a victory the year before, so it’s a track they’ve shone at in the past. Will the 2019 Moto3™ World Champion get his WorldSSP career off to a flying start like so many before him and if so, how much of a spoiler could he go on to be in the overall title fight? FIGHTING FOR THIRD: Caricasulo aiming to close the gap on Schroetter Marcel Schroetter (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) sits third in the standings in his rookie campaign, but he faces the third consecutive circuit he has not raced at, after Donington Park and Imola. He was on the podium in the latter but two P8 finishes and a retirement in his last four means he’s lost ground to Manzi in the standings. He’ll need to be looking over his shoulder as Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing Team) closes in on the German for third overall; the Italian has raced at Most in the last two years and finished in the top-six on three occasions and he’ll be hoping his experience counts over Schroetter as he searches for third in the standings. Caricasulo will also be looking to springboard back into front-running pace after a double DNF at home last time out. THE BATTLE FOR FIFTH: 21 points separating eight riders… Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) has hit stunning form in the last two rounds with four top-six finishes in the last five races. It’s his best run since he graduated to WorldSSP, and he went two better in WorldSSP300 with six consecutive top-six finishes between Assen Race 1 and Magny-Cours Race 2, including a sixth and a fifth at Most. Another strong result could see him surge into the top ten in the standings, but he’ll face tough competition again. Jorge Navarro (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) aims consolidate his place in the top ten, with a tightly packed group fighting for fifth in the standings. Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) leads his battle with 21 points separating the Turk and Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) in 12th. Niki Tuuli (PTR Triumph), Glenn van Straalen (EAB Racing Team), Valentin Debise (GMT94 Yamaha) and Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) will all be looking for strong results at Most to strengthen their grips on a top ten position. RIDER NEWS FOR MOST: changes to the grid Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) remains on the sidelines with 2017 Champion Lucas Mahias stepping in once again. Home hero Ondrej Vostatek makes his return to WorldSSP with the PTR Triumph squad. Initially scheduled to take part as a wildcard, the Czech rider will take Harry Truelove’s place as the Brit recovers from injuries sustained at Donington Park. Austria’s Thomas Gradinger also returns to the Championship with a wildcard appearance as he lines up with the Eder Racing outfit; Gradinger was a podium finisher at Assen back in 2019. Four riders will need to be declared fit to race at Most. Oli Bayliss (D34G Racing) is one of these and he recently raced at Most in the German championship, taking victory. Niki Tuuli (PTR Triumph), Yuta Okaya (ProDina Kawasaki Racing) and Apiwath Wongthananon (Yamaha Thailand Racing Team) are the other three; for Tuuli in particular, it’s a sense of repetition, as Most was the venue for his comeback last year too, after his nasty crash at Estoril.

15 riders covered by less than a second, Razgatlioglu edges Gardner on Friday at Most Friday, 28 July 2023 It was close all the way through the order and whilst it’s shaken up, Saturday morning will be mega important for many The Autodrom Most welcomes the 2023 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship paddock and it was a momentous Friday for the Acerbis Czech Round. After a wet FP1, all eyes were on FP2 with a fully dry session in prospect. Making hay whilst the sun shone, albeit behind a lot of cloud, was Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK). However, with 15 riders covered by less than a second, it could all change at a moment’s notice. MOMENTUM CONTINUES: Razgatlioglu stars on Friday With just over eight minutes left to go, Toprak Razgatlioglu went top and took half a second out of the best time of the day at that point, showcasing his pace at a track where he is the most successful rider at. Two flying laps later and he went half a tenth quicker, whilst Italian teammate Andrea Locatelli elevated himself from outside the top ten into P2 momentarily but finished up in P7. Razgatlioglu however was on top come the end of Friday, as the momentum continues to be in his corner. INDEPENDENT STRENGTH: Gardner, Petrucci and Bassani fly high in top five The Independent riders were in mighty form at Most on Friday, with Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) only 0.012s adrift of Razgatlioglu’s top time. The Australian’s first weekend at Most seems to be off to a good start, with the #87 looking competitive in the dry FP2 and in the wetter FP1. Behind him, Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) is another rookie tackling the Czech track for the first time, and he was P3 and just over a tenth away from Toprak on top. He was also top Ducati, something he’ll be keen to hold onto through the weekend. Then, in P5, Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) is straight from his Imola success and on the pace at round eight. In P8 despite a crash, Gardner’s teammate Dominique Aegerter was looking strong, making it four Independent stars inside the top eight and in the thick of the action. BAUTISTA ONLY SIXTH: plenty of places between the #1 and his title rival 12 months ago, Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) took victory at Most and in doing so, delivered Ducati’s 1000th podium and this weekend, he’s on the edge of an 18th win of the season, which will be a new record. However, he struggled on day one at Most; he sat out the dry end to the session and was left in 17th, whilst in FP2, he was sixth and the fourth Ducati. It seemed like the #1 had a technical issue, missing the first part of the session. His teammate, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, knows how important this weekend is in terms of his future, with a good result needed before the summer break. Rinaldi took the flag in fourth as he chases a return to the podium. BMW’S FRIDAY: strong in the wet, van der Mark returns with crash in FP2 Scott Redding (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) may have topped a far from ideal FP1 but found himself down in P9 after the fully dry FP2, with the BMW riders reportedly struggling with the new hard rubber this weekend. However, his afternoon was better than teammate Michael van der Mark’s, as the #60 was last after suffering a dramatic crash at Turn 10. Unfortunately, his bike wasn’t able to be get back to pitlane as it ended up on the outside of the circuit and not on the side of pitlane, meaning the Dutchman lost 40 minutes of desperately-needed track time. It’s going to be a big Saturday back in action. KAWASAKI IN TROUBLE? Rea the best in P10 With 12 minutes left on the clock, it was a Kawasaki 1-2 as Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) led teammate Alex Lowes at the Autodrom Most, with the dry session seeing times right on the pace. Kawasaki have never won at Most before and Rea hasn’t won in 2023, but despite the strong times, it didn’t seem that a time attack was put to the test at the end of the session. For teammate Lowes, he suffered a crash at Turn 2 but was all OK, got the bike back to the pits and got back out within five minutes. When he got back out, he crashed again, this time at Turn 10, so another slow-speed spill but untimely with three minutes to go. At the end of the session and thus on the combined times, Rea was in 10th and Lowes took 11th. HONDA DOWN FIELD AGAIN: Lecuona and Vierge 13th and 16th respectively Once again, Honda struggled on Friday as Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) only managed to finish in 13th, whilst teammate Xavi Vierge took 16th at the end of the session. Honda were probably the one team that could’ve done with fully dry running all day as they fight to get back into contention after what has been a torrid few rounds; Lecuona’s 13th-best lap time was however less than three quarters of a second away from Razgatlioglu’s top time. There’s work to do for Honda at Most. FURTHER DOWN: Gerloff and Baz outside the top ten Just ahead of Lecuona was Garrett Gerloff in 12th, at Most with BMW for the first time; he suffered a run-off in sector three at the start of FP2 but was OK. Teammate Loris Baz took 14th and was upside inside the top five at one point as his future hangs in the balance. Philipp Oettl (Team GoEleven) was 15th, whilst Lorenzo Baldassarri (GMT94 Yamaha) took 17th. Home-hero Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing MOVISIO) was 18th and up in ninth place after FP1, whilst Tito Rabat (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) and Isaac Vinales (TPR Team Pedercini Racing) completed the top 20. THE REST OF THE ORDER: Soomer ahead of Tamburini ‘Baltic Bullet’ Hannes Soomer (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team) was back in action in the WorldSBK paddock and despite a big highside in FP1 at the final corner, he got back out and was a respectable 2.6s off the pace of Toprak at the head of the field. Roberto Tamburini (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) suffered a technical issue in pitlane, meaning his handful of laps left him in 22nd, whilst Eric Granado (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team) crashed at Turn 17 and was taken to the medical centre for a check-up, where he was declared fit. Top six after WorldSBK’s opening day at Most, full results here: 1. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) 1’32.367s 2. Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) +0.012s 3. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) +0.104s 4. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) +0.193s 5. Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) +0.244s 6. Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) +0.287s

Bulega pips Huertas on Friday at Most, Manzi P7 after losing best lap time Friday, 28 July 2023 Championship leader Nicolo Bulega led both Friday sessions in the Czech Republic, while Adrian Huertas continued to show impressive speed Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it WorldSSP Racing Team) was the rider to beat on Friday in the FIM Supersport World Championship, but his rivals kept the pressure on him at the Autodrom Most, with title challenge Stefano Manzi (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) seventh after losing a quicker lap time after it was set under yellow flags. Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) was once again shining brightly as took second place on Day 1 of the Acerbis Czech Round. ADVANTAGE BULEGA ON FRIDAY: Championship leader on top, Manzi loses lap Bulega topped Free Practice 1 in the morning and improved his lap time in FP2 as he edged closer to – but didn’t quite match or beat – the race lap record at Most. His best lap time was a 1’35.264s as he secured top spot with the Italian looking to prevent title rival Manzi from building up more momentum after his Imola double. Manzi dropped down the order in the final few minutes before he set a 1’35.452s and provisionally moved to P2 and only 0.186s behind Bulega. Manzi’s time, however, was deleted as he set it under yellow flags after a Turn 20 crash for Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team); his best official time, a 1’35.669s, good enough for P7. Manzi losing his best time promoted Huertas back into second place after posting a 1’35.483s and Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing Team) into third. A SHAKE UP IN THE ORDER? riders impress at the sharp end Jorge Navarro (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) was the lead Yamaha rider on Friday as he took P4, comfortable enjoying one of his best days of his rookie campaign. He lapped around three tenths off Bulega’s best time and was 0.060s ahead of Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura). The Italian surged up the order after setting a 1’35.629s with just a few minutes left in the 45-minute session. It was also a good day for Valentin Debise (GMT94 Yamaha) as he secured a spot in the top six after posting a 1’35.656. FIVE MANUFACTURERS IN THE TOP TEN: a competitive weekend in store Manzi took P7 and was around four tenths off Bulega’s time but will know there’s more to come after a faster lap time was deleted, while two Triumphs and an MV Agusta ensured five of the six manufacturers in WorldSSP were in the top ten. Niki Tuuli (TPR Triumph) led teammate Ondrej Vostatek after the Czech rider showed impressive speed on his return to the Championship. He was 0.024s ahead of Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) with the Barcelona Race 1 winner completing the top ten. His teammate, Marcel Schroetter, was directly behind in 11th. HOUSEKEEPING: a red-flagged FP2 session The session was red flagged with just over 20 minutes to go for safety conditions shortly after a crash for French rider Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) at Turn 13. The Frenchman was taken to the medical centre for a check-up following the incident, where he was declared fit with a left leg and ankle contusion. There were a couple of other crashes in FP2. Yuta Okaya (ProDina Kawasaki Racing) went down at Turn 20 and completed only six laps, with the Japanese rookie classified in 29th. Tom Edward (Yart – Yamaha WorldSSP Team) went down at Turn 15 and he was 16th in the standings. The top six from WorldSSP Friday action, full results here: 1. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) 1’35.266s 2. Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) +0.217s 3. Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing Team) +0.251s 4. Jorge Navarro (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) +0.303s 5. Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) +0.363s 6. Valentin Debise (GMT94 Yamaha) +0.390s

"We’re fast out of the box which is good!" – Gardner going good on Friday at Most Friday, 28 July 2023 The Australian hammered in a fast lap time at the end, missing out on the top time by the narrowest of margins to 2021 World Champion Razgatlioglu After what has been a tricky season at times, particularly the last two rounds which have been challenging new tracks to learn, Australian rookie Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) enjoyed a fantastic Friday at the Autodrom Most. Day one of the Acerbis Czech Round was certainly a jumbled up one with inclement weather persisting, but the 2021 Moto2™ World Champion was strong in both wet and dry conditions. The day started in a positive way for the #87, who is tackling the fast and flowing Czech circuit for the first time in his career. He was briefly top in FP1 during the wet conditions, before finishing fifth and was second-best Independent behind teammate Dominique Aegerter. However, with a completely dry session in the afternoon, Gardner once again showed good strength and looked like his time would be good enough for top spot, only to miss out by 0.012s to fellow Yamaha rider Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK). A total of 35 laps were set by Gardner, more than anyone else in the top five and he was also fastest in the fourth sector, ironically where his Turkish Yamaha colleague struggled. It’s hard to read into too much of his race pace, with times not consistently in the 1’32s – his next best time after his 1’32.379 was a 1’33.193 on his final flying lap. Speaking about a Friday to be happy about, Gardner spoke of his day one: “It’s been a bit of a complicated day with the weather. We started FP1 in the wet; we had pretty good feelings and we got a few dry laps in at the end. FP2 was fully dry which was good. It’s my second time here but I don’t really remember the first time “It was in 2016 with Tasca Racing on my Moto2™ bike. It was my first time I came here since then but, honestly, I don’t really remember the track. I’ve done a lot of racing since then. We have to work; I’m not completely comfortable with the bike yet but we’re fast out of the box which is good.” Attention then turned to his tyre choice, but a big moment on the front at Turn 2 knocked his confidence: “It’s not bad on the first two runs. This was a used tyre from FP1. We put on a new tyre on for the third run. We then used the SC2 on the front, the hard tyre, and it was fine for two laps but, after that, I lost the front at Turn 2 and managed to save it. I didn’t have a really good feeling on the front after this. It was difficult to keep the lap times but, even so, I could’ve been high 32s or low 33s. We need to improve the front end feeling and probably we will use the SC1.”

THE DROUGHT ENDS: Rea’s strategic masterclass ends 252-day streak without win, Bautista P12 Saturday, 29 July 2023 Six-time Champion Jonathan Rea pulled off a masterstroke at Most with an intermediate tyre gamble to end his long winning drought Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) ended his 252-day, 23-race streak without victory in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship as an intermediate tyre gamble paid off handsomely for the six-time Champion. He started Race 1 for the Acerbis Czech Round on intermediate tyres, and didn’t change to slicks, as he returned to the top step of the rostrum at the Autodrom Most. Meanwhile, there was another Championship twist as Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) finishing second as Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was 12th. BACK ON TOP: Rea returns to P1 The opening laps proved to be beneficial for the wet tyre runners with Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) storming away from fourth on the grid to have a six second lead over Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) at the end of Lap 2; the pair started from the front row on full wet tyres. The pace dropped rapidly as the track quickly dried with Bassani lapping as much as four seconds quicker than Gardner behind him, expanding his lead to more than 10 seconds by the time Lap 4 concluded. However, on Lap 5, Bassani started haemorrhaging time to Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), with the six-time Champion starting on intermediate tyres. The gap came down from over 10 seconds to two by the end of Lap 6 before the Italian pitted on that lap; handing Rea the lead as Bassani opted for slick tyres and came ahead of all the riders who pitted before him. At the start of Lap 10, Bassani was within 58 seconds – the Pit Intervention Time – of Rea who had yet to stop. This gap continued to fall but the #47 wasn’t able to regain the time lost and finished seventh. While Bassani was able to put in lap times in the 1’32s – around three seconds quicker than Rea – the battle out in front turned into Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) with the 2021 Champion around eight or nine tenths quicker than his rival. Although the Turkish star kept closing the gap, Rea’s pace was enough to keep Razgatlioglu behind him to end his win drought that extended since Phillip Island Race 1 in 2022. Rea was joined on the podium by Razgatlioglu and Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) with the Italian also opting to start on the inters and not stop for slicks. Rea was able to go with the wet tyre runners in the opening laps while other intermediate riders dropped down, including Razgatlioglu, before battling back. The top three were separated by just eight seconds after 22 laps as Ulsterman claimed his 119th career victory and ensuring he now has 15 winning campaigns in WorldSBK. Razgatlioglu took his 21st podium of the year, and his 19th consecutive for the fourth-longest all-time streak as he closed the gap on Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) to 54 points. Petrucci gave Ducati a round number of podiums, with their 1050th at a venue they took their 1000th at last year. PITLANE TO P4: Redding’s Warm Up lap gamble pays off Scott Redding (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) also didn’t stop as he claimed fourth place despite starting from the pitlane. Redding was the first to pit as he came in at the end of the Warm Up lap to switch to the intermediate tyres and he surged up the order to finish in P4, finding off a resurgent Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) in fifth. It meant all five manufacturers finished inside the top five, while Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) completed the top six. P4 to P6 were separated by under a second as they battled and switched positions. MISSING OUT: the wrong tyre choice hinders Bassani, Bautista Bassani finished the race in seventh, just over 23 seconds down on Rea despite opting to stop, with the Italian the highest-placed rider in the classification who had stopped. The #47 made up three positions on the final lap as he first overtook Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) and Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) in one move to move into eighth, before he overtook Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) to secure seventh. Aegerter ended the race in eighth, with Lowes ninth and Baz rounding out the top ten. SCORING ON RETURN: van der Mark back in the points Rookie Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was 11th after starting from the front row. He pitted at the end of Lap 5 to switch tyres, finishing ahead of Bautista in 12th. The reigning Champion lost 18 seconds compared to the Pit Intervention Time which dropped him behind Gardner, with the Australian coming into the pits behind him but leaving ahead. Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) scored points on his return as he took him 13th, ahead of Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in 14th and Tito Rabat (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) in 15th. HOUSEKEEPING: to note from Race 1 Lorenzo Baldassarri (GMT94 Yamaha) had been running in the points but a penultimate lap crash at Turn 2 dropped him down the order to P16, with the rookie three tenths behind Rabat. Xavi Vierge (Team HRC), Isaac Vinales (TPR Team Pedercini Racing), Roberto Tamburini (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) and Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing MOVISIO) rounded out the classified riders. Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW) was the first retirement when he crashed out on Lap 6 and Turn 15, while Eric Granado (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team) retired after completing seven laps. Teammate Hannes Soomer crashed out at Turn 20 with just a handful of laps to go while Philipp Oettl (Team GoEleven) brought his machine into the pits to retire. The top six from WorldSBK Race 1, full results here: 1 Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) 2. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) +4.007s 3. THE PENDULEM SWINGS AGAIN: Bulega halts Manzi’s momentum with Race 1 victory Saturday, 29 July 2023 Nicolo Bulega added five more points to his Championship lead as he beat rival Stefano Manzi in the Czech Republic Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) extended his FIM Supersport World Championship lead with a commanding Race 1 victory at the Autodrom Most while Stefano Manzi (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) took second after a hard-fought battle. It means Bulega’s lead has stretched out to 46 points over Manzi after the opening Acerbis Czech Round battle in a red-flagged race following a Turn 1, Lap 1 incident at the start. DRAMA FROM THE START: Bulega wins red-flagged Race 1 The race was red flagged on the opening lap after fluid was left on the track from Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) after he crashed at the Turn 1-2 chicane. It came after Turn 1 proved to be a pinch point with Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) aiming to gain positions, with several riders having to take to the run-off area to take avoiding action as riders slowed up to avoid any potential incidents directly ahead. The race was restarted over a 12-lap distance, shortened from the original 19. Bulega got away well while title rival Stefano Manzi (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) surged to P2 at Turn 1, before dropping behind Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) at Turn 1 on Lap 2. However, he was soon promoted back up to second when the Ducati rider crashed out at Turn 7 with Montella not taking any further part in the race. Although his target was set firmly on Bulega, the #62 was unable to close the gap on his title rival as he looked to fend off Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), with the #11 pulling out a gap of over 2.6s on Manzi at the end of Lap 4 over Sofuoglu who’d overtaken Manzi. The Italian responded at Turn 1 a lap later. At the start of Lap 7, Sofuoglu overtook the Yamaha into Turn 1 while Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) attempted to pass him but ran wide through the chicane; dropping behind De Rosa and into P5. Huertas’ off-track excursion was placed under investigation by the FIM Stewards and given a Long Lap Penalty for not losing more than one second in Sector 1. Manzi was able to start pulling away from De Rosa and Sofuoglu behind him as the pair duelled it out for the final podium place. De Rosa led into the final lap after the #54 ran wide at Turn 1 on the penultimate lap although he closed the gap on the final lap. Sofuoglu set a personal best lap on the final lap as he overtook De Rosa at Turn 20 for third, demoting the Italian to fourth. Bulega claimed his ninth win in WorldSSP, putting him level with 2017 Champion Mahias, while it was also his 22nd podium to put him level with Sebastien Charpentier at 10th in the all-time last. Second was Manzi’s 15th podium and his tenth of the season while Barcelona winner Sofuoglu secured his third rostrum visit. PENALTY DROPS HUERTAS BACK: strong race ends in P5 Huertas finished fifth after taking his Long Lap Penalty almost immediately as it was given to him, although he didn’t lose position as he had a big margin to the riders behind him. Marcel Schroetter (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) took sixth, two seconds away from the 2021 WorldSSP300 Champion, while Niki Tuuli (PTR Triumph) was seventh and only three tenths away from the German rookie. Five of the six manufacturers competing on a full-time basis in 2023 finished in the top seven in Race 1. RUNNING WIDE: Caricasulo loses ground Glenn van Straalen (EAB Racing Team) was eighth as he battled for seventh in a multiple-rider group. He crossed the line in ninth but a post-race one-place grid drop for Jorge Navarro (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) for exceeding track limits on the final lap at Turn 2. The Spaniard was therefore classified in ninth, ahead of Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing Team) in tenth. Caricasulo lost time in the closing stages after he ran wide but was able to secure a top-ten finish. IN THE POINTS: Booth-Amos extends Challenge lead, Kofler scores on debut Valentin Debise (GMT94 Yamaha) was just two tenths away from a place in the top ten as he finished ahead of compatriot Andy Verdoia (Yamaha Thailand Racing Team) in 12th. The youngest-ever WorldSSP victory was only 0.022s ahead of Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo ME AIR Racing) in 13th. The Brit finished as the lead WorldSSP Challenge rider while he finished ahead of Mahias, who took to the restarted race after his crash, and Andreas Kofler (D34G Racing). Andreas takes the Kofler family bragging rights on Saturday as he beat brother and teammate Maximilian, with the older sibling missing out on points with 18th. Ondrej Vostatek (PTR Triumph) and Tarran Mackenzie (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team) separated the two siblings. HOUSEKEEPING: to note from WorldSSP Race 1 Luke Power (Motozoo ME AIR Racing) didn’t take to the restarted race while fellow Australian rider Tom Edwards (Yart-Yamaha WorldSSP Team) crashed out on Lap 6 at Turn 8. Nicholas Spinelli (VFT Racing WEBIKE Yamaha) went down at Turn 20 on Lap 7, while Alvaro Diaz (Arco Yart Yamaha WorldSSP) had a technical issue which forced him out of the race. The top six from WorldSSP Race 1, full results here: 1. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) 2. Stefano Manzi (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) +1.856s 3. Razgatlioglu resists Rea for Superpole Race victory, Bautista battles from 14th to 3rd Sunday, 30 July 2023 It was ten laps of non-stop drama in the Superpole Race as the ‘Titanic Trio’ returned to the rostrum together Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) went head-to-head for victory in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship in Sunday morning’s Tissot Superpole Race with the Turkish star claiming victory and denting Alvaro Bautista’s (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) Championship lead even further. The #1 battled his way from 14th on the grid to a podium place as he limited the damage in the title fight, with the gap cut to 49 points. A FIGHT TO THE END: podium battle decided on the last lap Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) surged from P4 to P1 when the lights went out as he went in search of his first victory, but soon found himself demoted to third behind Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK). The pair pulled away from the #47 as they battled it out for victory. The Turkish star gained two places on Lap 4 as he first overtook Rea before passing Bassani as he moved into the lead. On Lap 6, Rea moved ahead of the #54 after he ran wide at Turn 13 with a move into Turn 20, but the Yamaha rider responded at Turn 3 on the next lap. The pair finished first and second while there was a battle for third raging behind them, which was decided at the penultimate corner on the final lap. With Bassani’s pace dropping off compared to the leaders, Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was able to pass him at Turn 20 on Lap 10 to secure a podium finish from 14th on the grid to secure a front row start for Race 2, alongside Razgatlioglu and Rea. Razgatlioglu’s win was his 37th win and his fifth of the year, while he’s closing in on Carl Fogarty’s 109 podiums with the 2021 Champion five down on the Brit. Rea celebrated his 400th WorldSBK race start with his 255th podium while Bautista added his 78th rostrum to his record. BASSANI DROPS TO P4: narrowly missing out on a podium Bassani’s fourth place means he starts in the same position as he did in the first two races of the Czech Round after missing out on a podium, and he’ll be joined by Ducati rival Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) as he finished fifth. Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) converted his front row start into sixth place to secure a second row start for Race 2 as his strong weekend continues. SECURING A THIRD ROW START: Lowes battles into the top nine Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) will lead away the third row in Sunday afternoon’s race as he took seventh place, ahead of Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark racing Team). The Italian dropped down the order after he ran wide at Turn 1 on Lap 1 before fighting back to secure eighth. Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW) was ninth as he secured the final place on the third row for Race 2, with Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) just missing out with tenth. HOUSEKEEPING: Locatelli, Vierge drop down the Race 2 grid Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) retired from inside the top ten when he had a spectacular crash on the opening lap, ending his points streak which started at Portimao Race 1 last year. Xavi Vierge (Team HRC) started from ninth but crashed out on the opening lap when Rinaldi forced his way through on the Spaniard, dropping him down the grid for Race 2. The top nine from the Tissot Superpole Race, full results here: 1 Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) 2. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) +1.203s 3. RECORD BREAKER: Bautista makes WorldSBK history with Race 2 victory, Razgatlioglu crashes from P1 Sunday, 30 July 2023 The Spaniard put Razgatlioglu under relentless pressure before the #54 crashed on Lap 17 at Turn 3 to hand Bautista a 25-point swing in the title race Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) completed a remarkable Sunday turnaround as he made MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship history with his 18th win of the 2023 season as title rival Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) crashed out from the lead after initially resisting pressure from the reigning Champion. It gave Bautista a 25-point swing in the Championship standings as the #1 wrote his name into the record books. CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE TWISTS: Bautista wins, Razgatlioglu crashes Bautista didn’t get away well from the line well as the lights out went but still found himself into the lead heading into Turn 1, before he tried to pull out a gap. In the early stages, Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) battled hard over second with Rea making a move on the #54 at the first chicane on Lap 4 before the 2021 Champion responded almost immediately. From there, the Yamaha star closed the gap on Bautista where they had a barnstorming battle. The pair were often looking to switch positions with Razgatlioglu claiming the lead on Lap 7 at Turn 13 with Bautista staying close and looking to make a move at Turn 1, but the Turkish star was able to respond under braking at the chicane. On Lap 12, Bautista’s tactic changed as he looked to pass his rival at Turn 20 on the inside, but the Yamaha rider responded through Turn 21 before the pair were battling under braking into Turn 1. However, on Lap 17, Razgatlioglu’s race came to an end. He had a highside heading out of Turn 2 and into Turn 3 which forced him to retire while leading. This allowed Bautista to claim victory by more than four seconds and gain 25 points on his rival, with the Championship gap expanding to 74 points. The win was his 50th in WorldSBK, but it was also a historic one: the 18th win of his season means he has now won more races in one season than any other rider. THE PODIUM FIGHT: 0.134s between three riders The battle for second went down to the wire with three riders separated by 0.134s across the line. Rea had been in second after Razgatlioglu’s crash but his pace was slower than Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) and Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) as the two Italians closed in on the Kawasaki. On the final lap, Petrucci went around the outside of Turn 21 and got a much better run down the straight to pip Rea to second by just 0.073s. Bassani, who lost a heap of time when he ran through the gravel at the chicane in the early stages, was 0.061s off the podium. Second place gave Petrucci his third podium in WorldSBK and his second of the Czech Round while Rea moved onto 256 career podiums. RESPONDING IN STYLE: climbing up the order Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) secured fifth place after dropping away from the podium fight in the closing stages, while Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) concluded the strongest weekend of his WorldSBK career with sixth as he finished three seconds down on Rinaldi. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) bounced back from his Tissot Superpole Race crash, and a grid slot outside of the top nine, to finish in seventh. He was ahead of Scott Redding (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) in eighth, the best BMW rider, while Xavi Vierge (Team HRC) claimed top Honda honours with ninth. Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) completed the top ten. IN THE POINTS: dropping down but scoring points Rookie Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was just half-a-second away from a place in the top ten as he came home in 11th while fending off Iker Lecuona (Team HRC). The Spanish rider was less than a tenth away from the double WorldSSP Champion as he finished 12th, while Philipp Oettl (Team GoEleven) and Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) duelled it out for 13th. Lowes was running in the top ten in the early stages but dropped down the order before coming home in 14th, 16 seconds clear of Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) who concluded his comeback round in the points. HOUSEKEEPING: classified riders and retirements Substitute rider Roberto Tamburini (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) was nine seconds behind the Dutchman as he finished in 16th, ahead of Spanish duo Isaac Vinales (TPR Team Pedercini Racing) and Tito Rabat (Barni Spark Racing Team). Estonia’s Hannes Soomer (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team) was 19th while Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW) was 20th and two laps down. The American crashed at Turn 1 on Lap 1 and, while he re-joined the race, he spent two laps in the box. Eric Granado (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team) retired after a Turn 7 crash on Lap 2 as his race came to a premature end, while Lorenzo Baldassarri (GMT94 Yamaha) crashed on Lap 4 at Turn 1 which put the Italian out of the race. Home hero Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing MOVISIO) brought his Kawasaki machine into the pits in the early stages to retire. The top six from WorldSBK Race 2, full results here: 1. Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) 2. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) +4.652s 3. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) +4.725s 4. Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) +4.786s 5.
