WTF was Aston thinking? Alonso gained three or four seconds on Max that lap. That seemed to call for a situation where either you 1) stay out because you think it won't rain more and have better tires than the leader and are gaining on him quickly or 2) pit for inters. They did the worst of both worlds.

Somebodies going to gain an advantage from this, either from how to or how not to do things, maybe even both. check my post in the 2023 tech thread. it compares the red bull, the merc, and the ferrari floor. the merc and ferrari floors look like something from the dark ages as compared to the red bull floor.. they're talking about it on you tube |

Well, Alonso P2 is good. The best in a loooong time so I'll take it. That was not super exciting until it started raining, and then it was very stressful, and then it went back to not being very exciting.
On to Spain.

I was also amazed that Ferrari was able to pull of the stacked pit stops for the change to intermediates without F'ing up one or the other.

Is Russell trying to play Hamilton mind games? I'll bet when Lewis hears the tape of George asking to be let by so he can finish 4th but then give it back to Lewis thru the penalty will infuriate Lewis!! George is an idiot for even asking!! Toto should have told him to shut up and drive |

That was one of the best Qualifying sessions I've ever seen. Maybe the best. Fantastic stuff, all around, and less than a tenth between Max and Nando, both drivin' 'em like they stole 'em. IMO the two most talented drivers since Senna and Schumacher, so no surprise to me Agreed. |

Interesting race.
Random thoughts:
- Race would have been a lot more interesting had Max not been able to go as deep on the Ms as he did. Kudos to him for holding out just long enough.
- Smart move by Alonso to go with hards and just line up oriented specifically to cut off Ocon and give him no hope into St. Devote.
- Checo bumper cars, wtf.
- Russell's 5 second penalty ended up being no penalty at all, for an egregiously unsafe rejoining of the race. Again, that should be a demotion of x positions either in this race or the next.
- Fucking KMag.
- Yuki's Radio rules.
- Lewis, unsafe to race? C'mon man.
- Hulk SMASH!
- Stroll, wow.
- Ocon as DotD? Eh, ok. Dude was one of the slowest people on track throughout and did nothing but hold people up all day, but whatever.
- At least they weren't allowed to drive like absolute crazy people like we saw at Indy today. What a shitshow. I think they're trying to get someone killt.

My rain dance worked
Next time I will phone Aston Martin ahead of time to make the correct strategy call. In hindsight, if Alonso pitted for inters, RedBull probably would have immediately countered and overrode any decision from Max.

Baffling decision from Aston Martin to pit Alonso for Mediums while it rained, but thankfully, it didn't end up hurting them. He was so far ahead of third that he and I avoided a meltdown. I will wonder, though, if starting him on Mediums might've made a Turn 1 dive on Max a real possibility. He seemed to think so after the race, but wasn't arguing that call. Still a great result. I'll take P2 any day. |
