David Emmett: This is something that people have been saying for years. I think Aki Ajo told me this in about 2016. Moto3 rewards risk taking rather than race strategy. Much harder for the rider to make a difference with skill and strategy.
Moto3 is the biggest problem MotoGP needs to fix.
David Emmett: SAG Pertamina Racing and Lorenzo Dalla Porta have ended their Moto2 collaboration. Unsurprising, given Dalla Porta's best result so far has been a 19th place, while teammate Bo Bendsneyder has had a podium and a decent season so far. Most paddock insiders will tell you that the step up from Moto3 to Moto2 is much bigger than from Moto2to MotoGP. Moto2 bikes are much heavier and powerful enough to spin the rear. Technique required is totally different.

Mat Oxley Still no FIM/Dorna confirmation about whether September's inaugural Indian MotoGP round will happen but the circuit has announced ticket registration & says tickets "will go on sale soon". A lot of work still to be done at the track, so who knows? Thanks to Rohan Singh

Bagnaia beats Bezzecchi by 0.063s on a breathless Friday The top two in the title race end a scintillating P2 at the summit with Rins in third as Mugello delivers on Day 1 Caught your breath yet? No we haven’t quite either. A scintillating end to MotoGP™ Practice 2 has decided the automatic Q1 and Q2 places at the Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley as home hero Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) leads the way thanks to a 1:45.436 – but his advantage is slender. Title rival Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) is second and just 0.063s off his compatriot, with third quickest Alex Rins (LCR Honda Castrol) also within a tenth of Pecco’s effort. A steady start After struggling with a cycling injury he picked up on Thursday at the circuit and a crash in Practice 1, a heavy limping Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) was back on track for Practice 2 as the Spaniard and the returning Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™ Team) were the only two riders to improve their morning times in the opening half an hour of the afternoon outing. Then, just ahead of the 15-minute remaining mark, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) joined them – but the reigning World Champion was P15. A breathless finish Then, the business end of the session commenced. Espargaro climbed to P15 – just 0.4s off – before Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) climbed to P5. We had 12 minutes to go, and it was time to decide the Q1 and Q2 running order for Saturday morning’s qualifying. However, as he turned up the wick on fresh soft rubber, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was down unhurt at Turn 14 while the #93 was sat P9. How costly would that prove? Well, straight away, Marc Marquez was shoved to P11 as a quintet of riders pounced to P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5, with Bezzecchi now fronting the times with a 1:45.808. Joining the Italian in the top five was Martin, Bagnaia, Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Raul Fernandez (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP™ Team) with six minutes to go, as the riders ventured out for their second time attacks. 0.7s split the top 18, it was time to strap in for a barnstorming end to Friday. The Repsol Honda star downed it with just a few minutes remaining, resulting in him sprinting back to the box to have one last crack at it. Marc Marquez was back out on his second RC213V and chose Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) as his reference. And it was a great reference. Both were 0.2s under Bezzecchi’s time through the second split and coming across the line, Marc Marquez went P1! But not for long. Rins and then Bagnaia stole top spot as MotoGP™ lit up the magnificent Mugello. Shadowing Bagnaia, Bezzecchi went P2 as in the blink of an eye, Marc Marquez was shoved to P7. Grand Prix motorcycle racing at it’s finest. Two late laps upset the order after the chequered flag was waved. Binder fired his way up to P4 and the wounded Espargaro worked wonders to pinch a late P9, which subsequently pushed his teammate Viñales out of the all-important top 10. As we so often see, Q1 is brimming with stars. Practice 1 pacesetter Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) ended up 0.4s off top spot in P13 as Viñales and Raul Fernandez miss out by a hairs width. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) cut a frustrated figure at the end of the session having only managed P16, he sits behind Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and teammate Franco Morbidelli heading into qualifying. Qualifying and the Tissot Sprint awaits All this means another Saturday blockbuster lies in wait. Qualifying kicks off at 10:50 local time (GMT+2), before the Tissot Sprint gets underway at 15:00. Top 10 combined: 1. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) – 1:45.436 2. Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) + 0.063 3. Alex Rins (LCR Honda Castrol) + 0.081 4. Acosta untouchable on Day 1 in Italy The Spaniard's P1 time remained untouched in P2 with Vietti and Lopez trailing behind The track temperature soared in Practice 2 meaning the riders were unable to improve on their Practice 1 times as the track became slower. This left Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) at the top of the standings after a dominant display in P1 meant his 1:50.928 was the fastest lap time of the day. Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) kicked off his home GP in P2, 0.196s shy of the top spot with Alonso Lopez (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) rounding out the top 3. Rory Skinner (American Racing) crashed out of the session with 25 minutes remaining, and with his bike stranded in the middle of the circuit the red flags were forced to come out. The bikes headed back out on the circuit but with the riders making little improvements on their P1 lap times. Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) joined his teammate inside the top 4. Mattia Pasini (Fieten Olie Racing GP) put in an impressive display to round out the top 5 as he makes another return to the Moto2™ grid in a wildcard appearance with the Fieten Olie Racing GP squad. Acosta's Championship rival might be on top of the Championship standings but Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) could only manage P8 on Day 1 in Mugello, just ahead of his teammate Sam Lowes who suffered a small off in P1. Moto2™ will be back in action on Saturday for Practice 3 at 9:25 and qualifying at 13:45 local (GMT +2). Top 10: 1. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) – 1:50.928 2. Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing) + 0.196 3. Alonso Lopez (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) + 0.265 4. Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) + 0.318 5. Mattia Pasini (Fieten Olie Racing GP) + 0.437 6. Öncü dominates Friday as Holgado sits P15 The Turk ends Friday at Mugello 0.4s clear of the chasing pack while the World Championship leader paid the price for a late crash It was a dominant Friday for Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) at the Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley as a 1:56.485 in Practice 2 saw the #53 claim top spot by 0.489s. Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) claimed second with Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) occupying third heading into Saturday's action. There wasn’t a lot of time improvements in Practice 2 but while pushing for a personal best time in the final 10 minutes, World Championship leader Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) highsided at Turn 12. Thankfully the Spaniard was able to walk away unharmed, but that was his session done. It was after this we saw a flurry of quick times come in. Practice 1 pacesetter Öncü again was showing superior pace, his progress saw him sit 0.4s clear with five minutes to go – and that was the gap and the end of play on Friday. Sasaki was the only rider within half a second of Öncü on Day 1, a great performance from the Turk. Ivan Ortola (Angeluss MTA Team) jumped up to P4 from P24 in Practice 1 to end his opening day on a high, as Scott Ogden (VisionTrack Racing Team) completed the top five having ended P1 inside the top 10 too. Romano Fenati (Rivacold Snipers Team) was the final rider to finish within a second of Öncü, the Italian was P6. Filippo Farioli (Red Bull KTM Tech3), Joel Kelso (CFMOTO Racing PrüstelGP), Stefano Nepa (Angeluss MTA Team) and Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) were the riders to round out the combined top 10 on Friday at Mugello, as Holgado slipped to P15 and outside the provisional automatic Q2 places after his crash. Top 10 combined: 1. Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) – 1:56.485 2. Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) + 0.489 3. Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) + 0.569 4. Ivan Ortola (Angeluss MTA Team) + 0.653 5. Scott Ogden (VisionTrack Racing Team) + 0.736 6. Romano Fenati (Rivacold Snipers Team) + 0.956 7. Filippo Farioli (Red Bull KTM Tech3) + 1.004 8. Joel Kelso (CFMOTO Racing PrüstelGP) + 1.036 9. Stefano Nepa (Angeluss MTA Team) + 1.040 10. Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) + 1.109

Mat Oxley: The primary idea of the KTM aero upgrade is to reduce drag for more speed (no diffusers etc), so reducing downforce, but Miller says it still turns as well. He did 221.7mph in P2. Fastest was Martin at 223.6mph.
