Some do, of course. No reason why they shouldn't, physically. Faster reflexes, lighter weight usually better distributed (that is lower CG with some notable exceptions), upper body strength lacking, but offset by power steering in some series. What are harder to come by on average and probably unchangeable is "killer instinct" and a "hold my beer" attitude. Nevertheless, there are no doubt plenty of women who could do the job as well as men. But there numbers are still so low that at every level it is easier and more likely to bring success to series, sponsors and manufacturers to put money where the likely return is surer and greater.
At one time I thought of the W Series as an impediment, kind of like the WNBA, which has a very limited fan base, because fans of the sport want to see the best, which is and always will be found in the NBA. The same is even more true in women's soccer, in spite of what Mia Hamm and others wish were true.
I still think so. But motor racing is far more even-handed in the demands it makes to be the best, i.e. fastest, craftiest and probably bravest, so I now think a team group, well sponsored and funded, and tied to various series and running as part of the same show, could put worthy competitors in major series to show what women with talent can do on a regular basis. Obviously the only series open to such an effort are those with more open admission, and maybe they would have to start in lower series. But developing a team, such as Arrow-McLaren, running teams in multiple series, might raise awareness of the competitive ability of women drivers, without the side-show efforts we see now.
What we have here is sort of like the exhibition games between the Harlem Globetrotters and a local all-star high school team. Nobody expects the kids to win. They're just their so it will be a game instead of a trick shooting demonstration. Naturally the Trotters get the ink. That was the point. So after three laps when a driver with talent no where near the top, backed by little money and a pick-up team, hired to give the series or a sponsor EID points, no wonder she quickly drops off the leader board and out of the commentators' notice. Feel Good Points awarded, but only damage, even if by innuendo to the concept of women's motor sports.

Not bad. It helped having a delay in the NASCAR race.

Not bad, especially compared to Road America

Attendance looked weaker than last year, but ratings were up. If I had to choose, I would want better TV numbers over higher attendance.

Not too good on the TV ratings front. They’ve had worse, but definitely could be better.

Not bad for the race or post race. But, if Indycar got 953,000 against a soft college football schedule, imagine how ugly this Sunday will be with no championship on the line and week one of the NFL. I wish Indycar would figure out a way to start earlier in the year and end on Labor Day weekend. A good idea would be to have the international race that’s rumored for the end of next year, to be early in the year. Also, make it a points race. I don’t understand this fascination of an international race that seems less important.

And this my friends, is why Indycar needs to go from February (after the Super Bowl) until Labor Day weekend

I’m a glass half full guy, so up 2% is better than down 2%.
