Rea: “The postponement of the match? No comment, no one asked the pilots ":" Now the challenge with Toprak becomes complicated and unrealistic. The postponement? I would have liked to see the track but I do not question the decision of the race direction. David Emmett: Understandable decision to postpone the WorldSBK race this morning. Still a shame that the sprint race is scrapped, gives Rea less of a chance. Feels like we've been robbed of an even closer finale.

2021 Mandalika World Superbike Superpole Result: Lowes And Haslam Unfit Submitted by Jared Earle on Sat, 2021-11-20 03:36
World Superbike's first Superpole at the new Indonesian track would be missing Leon Haslam and Alex Lowes, Lowes ruled unfit after his qualifying crash and Haslam not having recovered enough from his recent surgery. The weather threatened to take part, 30ºC air temperatures with clouds keeping the track down to 44ºC, but the clouds might bring rain at some point during the day.
Axel Bassani set a 1'34.003 which held the top spot until Toprak Razgatlioglu set a 1'33.544, followed by Jonathan Rea, Scott Redding and Andrea Locatelli. Garrett Gerloff used a sprint race tyre in his first session, hoping to fit three sessions in.
Jonathan Rea and Scott Redding set out for their second session early, with six minutes remaining. Jonathan Rea set a 1'33.201 with Scott Redding under a tenth off his pace, but Toprak Razgatlioglu took a third of a second out of the pair with a 1'32.877, an unassailable lap.
Toprak Razgatlioglu took his third pole position of the year, ahead of Jonathan Rea and Scott Redding. Garrett Gerloff headed the second row, alongside Andrea Locatelli and Tom Sykes, who knocked Axel Bassani off the second row. Bassani lined up with Alvaro Bautista and Michael van der Mark on the third row.

Speechless Razgatlioglu: "We are Champions… I don’t know what I can say!" Sunday, 21 November 2021 The new World Champion couldn’t quite believe it, and he paid tribute to all who have helped him as he describes the feeling of achieving what he’s always dreamt of: becoming WorldSBK Champion The 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship has come to a close and it has been a magical year, full of thrilling moments, huge drama and plenty of battles. WorldSBK’s return to Indonesia after a 24-year absence was a memorable one as one of the tensest battles in the Championship’s history played out across the weekend. However, despite bad weather, rain delays and the pressure of the title looming large, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) became the new WorldSBK Champion, securing it with second in Race 1 as Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) took victory, not enough to keep his title hopes alive. After torrential rain postponed Race 1 on Saturday to Sunday, there was another delay as the rain once again played havoc. After the delay and with all riders remaining on slick tyres despite damp patches, Race 1 burst ignited. Immediately, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea were fighting, along with the likes of Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) and Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team). However, Toprak, Jonny and Scott soon edged clear and in the second half of the race, swapped positions numerous times. There was a heart-in-mouth moment for Razgatlioglu, as the 25-year-old Turk had a huge moment, dropping him back to third. With Rea out front, Toprak fought back through to second place and followed Rea home, to become the new World Champion, ending Rea’s streak after six seasons. Speaking about becoming World Champion and achieving his dream, Razgatlioglu said: “We are Champions… I don’t know what I can say! It’s been a special day for me. After Assen, I said ‘OK, the Championship is finished, because before Assen, I was looking at the Championship. After Assen, I never looked at the Championship; I was just focused on the race and now, I am here. Today wasn’t an easy race for me, all I could do was try my best and we are Champions. This hasn’t been easy, because many races and many moments, sometimes we’ve crashed or had a problem, but now we are here.” For Race 2, the rain came down even harder but determined work from the marshals and organisation meant that, after a 90-minute delay, riders were back out on track for the final race of the season. Once again, Razgatlioglu, Rea and Redding all banged bars and swapped paint at the front, with Axel Bassani and Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) in the mix. Razgatlioglu and good friend van der Mark duelled in the closing stages, with the Dutchman getting the better of his former teammate to give BMW a podium in their last race of the season, whilst Toprak’s first race as World Champion saw him come home in fourth. Continuing to talk about what the title meant for him, the 2021 WorldSBK Champion said: “My dream was, I always said this season, that I might be World Champion. This is for my dad. I’m really happy today. For me, it’s an incredible day. This is really important for me. He was also working for me and it is not possible for him to see that I am World Champion, but he always said ‘Toprak will be World Champion’. He died four years ago but today we are Champions, and this is for him.” Razgatlioglu has broken numerous records throughout the season, but his title means many things. Not only it is his first World Superbike Championship title but also Turkey’s, making it the seventh country to take a WorldSBK title. Toprak is the 18th different rider to win a World Superbike Championship in what was coincidentally the Championship’s 18th final round title decider. He’s the first rider for Yamaha to take 29 podiums in a season, whilst he and teammate Andrea Locatelli also gave the Pata Yamaha outfit the team’s title. For the Manufacturers’ Championship, both Pata Yamahas plus points from Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) and his rookie teammate Kohta Nozane helped the Japanese manufacturer to the crown. It’s been a standout year for Yamaha, who not only won the WorldSBK title with Razgatlioglu but also the Manufacturers’ and teams’ crowns. They also took Best Independent Riders’ and teams’ titles, whilst, for a sixth season in WorldSSP, they wrapped up the Riders’ Championship and for a fifth, they take the Manufacturers’ crown. In MotoGP™, Fabio Quartararo took the factory team to their first Riders’ title since 2015, whilst on a national level, they’ve also had plenty of success: Tarran Mackenzie giving them the British Superbike title, Jake Gagne doing the same in MotoAmerica and Katsayuki Nakasuga likewise achieving the Japanese crown.

Rea doubles up in Indonesia with wet-weather WorldSBK victory after thrilling battles Sunday, 21 November 2021 The season ended with an incredible battle between second and third in the Championship in a rain-affected shortened Race 2 A shortened Race 2 for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit provided plenty of drama in wet conditions, with a delay to the start due to weather conditions meaning the race was run to a reduced 12 laps, down from the originally planned 21 laps. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) doubled up on victories in Indonesia as he battled it out with Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) for victory. A WET WEATHER MASTERCLASS FROM REA AND REDDING… As the race got underway, newly crowned Champion Toprak Razgatligolu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) kept the lead from the race, with the lead five quickly looking to break away. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) were able to break away with relentless pace as they battled it out for Race 2 honours. Rea and Redding both exchanged first place as they looked to end the season on the top step of the rostrum, including a superb move around the outside of the Ducati rider on Lap 7, although Redding was able to respond. As the final lap started, Redding was able to make a move into Turn 1 before Rea responded into Turn 10. Heading into Turn 16, Redding went up the inside of Rea but ran wide, allowing Rea to move back into the lead of the race and claim his second victory at Mandalika for the 215th podium of his career. Redding’s second place earnt Ducati their 660th race on the podium. INTENSE BATTLE FOR THE PODIUM Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) got a good start to be in the lead group of five riders, and on Lap 4 he looked to move up the order into a podium place. Into Turn 17, Bassani and Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) made contact and Bassani crashed out of the race, with the incident placed under investigation by the FIM WorldSBK Stewards, with no further action taken. On the run to Turn 17, Bassani and Razgatlioglu were battling which allowed van der Mark to get alongside Bassani on the exit. Van der Mark and Razgatlioglu battled it out for third place with the former teammates going head-to-head for the final place on the podium, with van der Mark passing the 2021 Champion on Lap 7 to claim his third podium of the 2021 and the 50th podium placement in WorldSBK for BMW. Razgatlioglu came home in fourth place meaning the gap between him and Rea at the end of the season was 13 points, while it also secured the Manufacturers’ Championship for Yamaha for only the second time; Yamaha winning the Riders’, Teams’ and Manufacturers’ titles in 2021. ROUNDING OUT 2021 IN THE TOP TEN Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) finished his BMW stint with a top five finish in the wet conditions, finishing three seconds clear of Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) in sixth place. Gerloff’s result, coupled with Bassani’s retirement, meant Gerloff claimed the Best Independent Rider award for 2021. He finished ahead of teammate Kohta Nozane in seventh place, the best of his rookie season in WorldSBK as he ended the season on a high. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) finished in eighth place after a battle with Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in Race 2. Although Rinaldi did get ahead of Locatelli on track, he had a crash at Turn 6 which forced him out of the race and allowed Locatelli to claim fourth in the Championship standings. Following the race, Rinaldi was transported to RSUD NTB Hospital by air ambulance for further assessments after being diagnosed with a cervical strain. Isaac Viñales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) ended his rookie campaign with his best result of the season with ninth, ahead of fellow Spaniard Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC); whose Team HRC career ended with a top ten finish. TAKING HOME POINTS Frenchman Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha) finished 11th place after he battled with the retiring Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) in the closing stages of the race, with Davies ending his WorldSBK career with 99 podiums, 32 victories and 2999.5 points. Tito Rabat (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) finished in 13th place and Samuele Cavalieri (Barni Racing Team) was 14th and the last of the classified riders. TO NOTE Despite a good start and running in the top six, Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) crashed out of the race at Turn 14. Oliver König (OUTDO TPR Team Pedercini Racing) was declared unfit after a Race 1 crash, where he was diagnosed with a minimal head injury. Leon Haslam’s Team HRC farewell came to a premature end after he was declared unfit with a right shoulder functional impairment and missed both races, while Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was declared unfit with a right acromioclavicular join separation.

Dethroning the king: Razgatlioglu ends Rea’s streak after being crowned 2021 Champion Sunday, 21 November 2021
After six years, there is a new WorldSBK Champion after Toprak Razgatlioglu after a season-long battle with rival Jonathan Rea
After 13 rounds and 35 races of the 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, a new Champion has been crowned: Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) is the new World Champion in the fastest production-bike based Championship in the world, ending an historic run by title rival Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), denying the Ulsterman a seventh consecutive crown.
In his second campaign with Yamaha following his switch from Kawasaki Puccetti Racing at the start of the 2020 campaign, WorldSBK’s newest Champion has been in the WorldSBK paddock since his European Superstock 600 days, claiming that title in 2015 before moving to European Superstock 1000 for two years and then WorldSBK in 2018.
Razgatlioglu claimed three wins in his first campaign with Yamaha in 2020 and built on that in the 2021 campaign, with 13 wins in 2021 as well as 28 podiums in 35 races; putting the Turkish star at, or close to the top, of all metrics when compared to other Yamaha riders in WorldSBK. With his success in 2021, he becomes only the second Yamaha rider to be World Champion in WorldSBK, after American Ben Spies in 2009, and the 18th different rider to be crowned in WorldSBK.
Razgatlioglu’s title-winning campaign got underway at MotorLand Aragon with the Turkish star claiming his first podium of the campaign in Race 1 before two further sixth-place finishes started off his season. A week later and WorldSBK hit the Circuito Estoril with Razgatlioglu starting a run of seven races on the rostrum, although the first win of his 2021 campaign would come in the third round of the campaign.
As WorldSBK headed to Italy, Razgatlioglu claimed his first two wins of the campaign at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”, although Rea’s strong start to the season, with four wins in the first nine races, meant Razgatlioglu trailed by 20 points heading into WorldSBK’s return to the United Kingdom; a Round that would provide a major twist in the title race.
A rain-affected Tissot Superpole session meant Razgatlioglu started Race 1 and the Tissot Superpole Race from 13th, but the Turkish start was soon into the lead of Race 1 after an incredible Ayrton Senna-like start, giving him the opportunity to take victory and close the gap to Rea even more. Sunday came at Donington Park and there was a final twist in store as Rea crashed in Race 2 on home soil, finishing in 20th place and out of the points, with Razgatlioglu claimed victory and, with it, the Championship lead for the first time.
Next up was Assen and it was Rea who ended the weekend with the Championship lead after a hat-trick of victories, but the drama was never far away as Razgatlioglu finished in third in Race 1 and the Superpole Race before a DNF from Race 2 after Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) crashed into the Turkish star at Turn 1 on Lap 1; Rea’s victory and Razgatlioglu’s non-score taking the Championship lead to 37 points.
Two new circuits provided new challenges as August came around with the Autodrom Most marking the return of the Czech Round and the Circuito de Navarra holding the Navarra Round for the first time. Razgatlioglu responded from the Assen disappointment with podiums in all six races at the two new venues, including three victories; an incredible last-lap battle with Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) one of many incredible moments throughout the 2021 campaign. Race 1 was also the second race Rea had crashed out of and, while he retained the Championship lead, the gap was reduced to three points after Most. Results at Navarra meant the pair left the first-ever Navarra Round tied on 311 points; a sign of how tight the title fight would be after more incredible battles throughout the weekend.
Familiar territory returned when WorldSBK headed to Magny-Cours in an earlier-than-usual September date, with Razgatlioglu taking two victories and Rea one; but it was not as simple as that. Razgatlioglu thought he had taken his first WorldSBK hat-trick but, after Race 2, it was announced he would be demoted one place in the Superpole Race for exceeding track limits following a protest from Kawasaki. After the dramatic events in France, the gap was just seven points heading into a triple header at Catalunya, Jerez and Portimao.
Rain came down ahead of Race 1 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya but Razgatlioglu was able to show rapid pace before a technical issue forced him out of the race from the lead, just the latest in a series of twists in the Championship fight. A tragic Jerez weekend followed just a week later, following the sad passing of WorldSSP300 rider Dean Berta Viñales, with Razgatlioglu claiming two wins out of two after the cancellation of the Superpole Race. Portimao marked the end of the triple header and it proved to be a rollercoaster weekend at a circuit affectionately known as the rollercoaster. Rea suffered from two crashes in Race 1 and the Superpole Race, scoring no points at a circuit he has had so much success at until Race 2 victory while Razgatlioglu claimed a hard-fought Race 1 win before sixth place in the Superpole Race, held in wet conditions. In Race 2, it was Razgatlioglu’s turn to have a crash in Portimao. In the space of a few hours, Razgatlioglu’s lead went from 49 points to 24 with two rounds remaining.
At the penultimate round in Argentina, Razgatlioglu was able to extend his title lead back up to 30 points following two more wins although Rea was able to beat Razgatlioglu in Race 2, ensuring the gap did not increase further. The duo battled hard at San Juan, returning to the calendar, a theme that has occurred throughout the entire 2021 season. With the results in Argentina, the title was guaranteed a spectacular finish in Indonesia.
The title was decided in Race 1 at the brand new Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit after an epic three-way fight between the top three in the Championship that raged on for all 20 laps. Despite Rea’s victory, Razgatlioglu came home in second place which was enough for him to end Rea’s run of titles and become the 2021 World Champion.

A "special", "emotional", "amazing" day: Yamaha react after triple WorldSBK success Sunday, 21 November 2021 Yamaha claimed the Riders’, Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships as WorldSBK hit Indonesia for the season finale A 12-year wait for Yamaha is over. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) secured the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship title after a thrilling encounter at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. The title went down to the final round, the Pirelli Indonesian Round, with the Turkish star claiming the title in the penultimate race of the season. Razgatlioglu came into the round with a 30-point advantage over Rea and, with the cancellation of the Tissot Superpole Race to accommodate running Race 1 on Sunday morning, knew second place would be enough to claim the title. Although title rival Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) claimed victory, Razgatlioglu finished in second place to take the 2021 crown, and end Yamaha’s 12-year wait to have a Riders’ Champion. Razgatlioglu’s crew chief, Phil Marron, was on hand to give his thoughts after the Turkish rider’s success as well as taking his first title as a crew chief, saying: “I’m lost for words, it hasn’t sunk in yet. Special day, special season, special rider, special team. I would call it special! I’ve come close a few times to winning some gold medals, but we got silver. It’s finally nice to take my first gold and to take it in WorldSBK. This is my third year with Toprak, and it’s nice to see him evolve, grow and progress… I don’t think he’s finished yet! I don’t think it’s the end of his story.” Razgatlioglu’s second place coupled with Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) claiming fourth place meant Pata Yamaha, run by Paul Denning and Crescent Racing, claimed the Teams’ Championship for 2021 with a race to spare. In Race 2, Razgatlioglu claimed fourth to secure Yamaha the Manufacturers’ Championship; the second in their WorldSBK history and first since 2007. Reacting to Razgatlioglu’s title success, and Pata Yamaha winning the Teams’ Championship, Team Manager Denning said: “What a season! It’s a very emotional moment. I’m so happy for the group, the people in the team. More than anything, this makes me happy. Toprak, as a human being not only as an athlete, has kept his humble approach, he is respectful for everybody, he works as a true part of the team and what he’s done this season is so special. He had some difficult moments; the crash in Assen that wasn’t his fault, two technical DNFs when he was challenging to win the race. He has not made one mistake in a race. 37 races we have done, not one mistake to cause a non-finish. Not one crash. I would need to check whether that’s ever happened in history. Incredible season and he deserves it and my team deserve it.” Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing Manager, Andrea Dosoli, was ecstatic with the team’s triple success. He said: “Amazing is the proper word to describe what happened this year. The triple crown is something that means a lot. Most probably, it has been the best ever season in World Superbike. I don’t remember a season where three riders and three manufacturers have been fighting every single lap, every single race for the podium. The level of competition has been so high, and I must congratulate Toprak and the team on a fantastic job. Toprak has never made any mistakes.” After 12 years without a Riders’ Championship title to their name, with the last coming from Ben Spies in 2009, and 14 without a Manufacturers’ Title, Yamaha return to the top of the standings to end the year on a high in WorldSBK, and in other Championships. On top of their success at the head of the field, Yamaha claimed the Independent Teams’ and Riders’ Championship with GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team and Garrett Gerloff, as well as the Manufacturers’ title in WorldSSP with Ten Kate Racing Yamaha and the Riders’ Championship with Dominique Aegerter. Their success extended around the globe, too, with Fabio Quartararo claiming the MotoGP™ title this season, Jake Gagne taking glory in MotoAmerica, Katsayuki Nakasuga winning in Japan and Tarran McKenzie taking the honours in British Superbike; a truly sensational year for Yamaha in motorcycle racing.

Yamaha winds MotoGP, WSBK, MotoAmerica, and BSB. Not a bad year. Last time Yamaha did the MotoGP/WSBK double was Rossi/Spies in 2009. 12 years ago

Sykes: "I have no regrets, BSB and MotoAmerica are options for the future": “I was taken by surprise by the decision that came in August and from there things took a bitter turn. In an ideal world I would still be in the World Championship.
