Morbidelli throws a dart at Yamaha: "I know I'm not on the priority list" Motosan María Viñas López 30 Mar. 21 Franco Morbidelli, last season's MotoGP world runner-up, hasn't had the best start to the year. The Petronas rider had a problem that affected him throughout the race and, in addition, he is riding a 2020 Yamaha, the only different one on the starting grid. Although he is his great friend and is delighted to share the box with him, the arrival of Valentino Rossi at Petronas Yamaha has hurt Franco Morbidelli in a way. He was runner-up in the world last season, in the middle of a pandemic and in a year where he was not among the favorites. However, the best result of the team in his MotoGP career has not been enough for the Italian-Brazilian to have this 2021 an official Yamaha like his partner's. Morbidelli's is the only different M1, compared to the official team bikes - Viñales and Quartararo - and Rossi's, with a direct contract with the brand.

Rossi: “I hope to solve the tire problems, there are positive aspects”: We’ll analyze all the data the next few days.”
Morbidelli pessimistic: “It’ll be a difficult weekend. Either we find a solution or I’ll just have to think about limiting the damage.”

Pol Espargaró: "We had a positive start, but it is not the position we should be fighting for" by María Viñas López 30 Mar. 21 After a start to the adaptation season at the Qatar Grand Prix, Pol Espargaró will seek to improve the eighth position in which he finished last race. The Repsol Honda Team is preparing for the second race weekend, awaiting the return of Marc Márquez. It was clear that Qatar was not going to be the best starting point for the Repsol Honda Team. The team of the brand with the golden wing continues to suffer on the Losail track, a track that is not at all adapted to its performance and in which, without a doubt, it is difficult for them to get their positive points. The Yamaha and the Ducati are still ahead in this Doha Grand Prix, but repeating the circuit can give them an extra to get into the fight for the podium. Or that is the intention of Pol Espargaró who, after a weekend of adaptation to his new MotoGP, is ready to take a step forward and improve that eighth position of the race. A result that, he says, will not be enough for a winning team like Repsol Honda.

Oliveira gives Michelin both barrels over new compound 31.03.2021 BSN Red Bull KTM’s Miguel Oliveira has fired a broadside at MotoGP spec-tyre supplier Michelin after he discovered his RC16 wouldn’t work on the new soft compound tyre. Oliviera had OK pace during the day on the hard version but when the temperature dropped at night, the soft tyre which everyone else ran wasn’t operating as well as he wanted. “We couldn’t finish stronger because of the front tyre. We lost quite a lot of grip before mid-race distance and that compromised our performance. I kept losing time to save a crash,” said the Portugese. “We feel our bike is strong but we cannot compete over the race distance with this compound tyre. To be honest it is really disappointing because the allocation here is chosen by elimination and not be choice. It is not our free choice to use a soft tyre, we use it because we cannot use another one. “It is quite the opposite. We cannot spend time during six months developing a bike to a certain kind of tyre and then just have this tyre removed from the allocation. “We feel that the result today is not any kind of reflection of a bike issue, let’s say.”

Aleix Espargaró: "It's the best Aprilia ever, we'll do good races": "On lap 18 on Sunday I was 2 seconds behind the leader. Aprilia is growing, the goal this year is to win the podium and dedicate it to Fausto"
Miller confident Doha GP won’t see a repeat of last Sunday’s rear tyre problem: "A strange vibration in the rear tyre made me not able to carry corner speed. There’s no must-win situation, but I’ll try my maximum to arrive close to the top".
Martín: "Sunday without contact with Bradl I would have fought for the top 10": "I made many mistakes to try to recover the leading group, I lost more time than I gained. I received the second dose of the vaccine, a little bit of sore.
Dall'Igna: "Without so much downforce, why couldn't we reach 400 km / h?"

While Roberts probably wasn't 100% ready for Moto GP he may have missed out on Aprillia. Maybe but I also think he's right where he needs to be and bide his time and learn the small lessons well. The stat to note is how far off the leader that he rides. He's not far off at all.

Petronas to replace all suspect parts on Morbidelli’s M1 01.04.2021 | David Miller | BSN Petronas Yamaha’s Franky Morbidelli has revealed that his crew will replace all the parts that could have influenced his poor performance in the opening MotoGP of the season last weekend Morbidelli only had Lorenzo Savadori behind him last Sunday as he had ‘no feeling’ from the Ohlins shock but confirmed his holeshot device had activated and deactivated as normal. “We have been trying to analyse what what happened last weekend. We could not pinpoint a clear item that made us so slow in the race,” said Morbidelli, speaking at the track. “We could see that there was a problem with the start device on the data, but apparently it was solved, and then on the race day the device was working okay. “But still, my feeling was bad, and my performance even worse, so we are going to change every item that we have a doubt on. Hopefully, the problems that I had not just in the race but during the weekend will go away.”

Strong criticism for the presence of the public at the Qatar GP Manuel Pecino April 2, 2021 Social networks were primed with the presence of the public at the Qatar GP last Sunday night. The images seen on television triggered criticism, especially after just a few hours before, the emirate government drastically increased the anti-COVID regulations due to a spike in infections. Public swimming pools and gyms have been closed; the capacity of shopping centers and restaurants has been significantly reduced, and the presence of children has been prohibited in these areas. Meanwhile, on Sunday in the Losail stands there was a mass of people, at least at the time of the starting grid. The images were explicit: no distance controls were in place, and images of entire families including minors in the crowd were revealed. The reaction of the authorities was not long in coming. For next Sunday, the 20% capacity allowance in the only grandstand at the circuit will be maintained, but the presence of the personnel in charge of ensuring social distance will be multiplied by three. The presence of the special police created to manage security on soccer fields at the 2022 World Cup is also planned. The food and drink stalls available at the Qatar GP last weekend will not open this Sunday. The presence of children is prohibited, and social distancing will be increased. A distance that must be respected even between members of the same family. The presence of the public at a COVID-era MotoGP race was nothing new. Last season, there were three races that allowed spectators: in the two races held in Misano in September and in the French GP at Le Mans in mid-October. In both cases the number of people admitted was drastically limited. In Italy they were pioneers, setting up an impeccable organization, with separate entrances for each grandstand, strict control of the distance within them, and so on. It was an impressive demonstration of organization. It also took courage on the part of the politicians of the region, who dared to give the green light to those responsible for the Misano circuit, who did it well. In fact, other circuits, such as Valencia, used it as a model. But the second COVID wave ended up ruining the chance of opening Cheste to the public. The Le Mans experience was not so positive. Controlling the crowd was not as efficient as it had been in Italy. Safety distances were not firmly controlled, and this led to crowds at times. The examples of Losail, Misano and Le Mans serve to understand that by adjusting some protocols and managing them well it is possible to safely allow a limited number of fans into the circuits. It just takes good organization and spectator commitment to cooperate. Let’s see how this aspect of the races evolves when the World Championship comes to Europe in mid-April.
