Tim Wilkerson to retire, handing over Funny Car to son DanielNHRA Funny Car veteran Tim Wilkerson is retiring from competition and turning over the car to his son, Daniel. “Putting Daniel in the seat is quite simply the right move for this team and for me,” Tim Wilkerson said. “I love to drive, it’s why I’ve done it so long and I’ll miss it, but I’m more excited for Daniel to get this opportunity. We’ve both wanted this for a long time and SCAG has made it possible. “Daniel is a great fit for the program. He’s one of the few drivers I’ve put in the seat that can tell me what happened on the run in detail. That’s important. And he’ll be a great ambassador for SCAG and our partners. That’s what’s really important moving forward.” The elder Wilkerson will not be going far, as he’ll remain with SCAG Wilkerson Racing as Daniel’s crew chief. Tim Wilkerson has 24 career wins and 20 No. 1 qualifiers in a career that has spanned 27 years. He finished in the top 10 in the championship points in 16 consecutive seasons, which dates back to the 2008 season. It was in 2008 that Wilkerson finished a career-best second in the Funny Car championship. racer.com/2024/01/11/tim-wilkerson-to-retire-handing-over-funny-car-to-son-daniel/?utm_source=RACER+%2F%2F+Newsletter&utm_campaign=340a65d0ae-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2024_01_11_07_16&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-340a65d0ae-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D

The SCAG Pro Shootout is this weekend at Bradenton, Florida !! Couple Teams are testing before qualifying on Friday. Saw Brittney Force ran 3.68 @ 336.91 MPH !! For comparison, my best speed was run there in 2018, 166+ MPH in the right lane, seems slow now !! My Dad is going over for eliminations on Saturday, I'm sure I'll hear all about it, wish I was near enough to run my car, but I'm in SE Missouri now

Good Lord that's fast. John Force 3.84 ET !! Antron Brown 339.61 MPH !! 😲 I remember the NHRA saying last year they didn't want cars going over 340.

Goodyear says they improved their tires, and are now good to 350 MPH, but NHRA's insurance wants them under 340...

I imagine if NHRA starts messing with nitro % numbers, we'll see a bunch of kablammo's.

So Bob Tasca's team gets in trouble for "media blasting" intake manifolds.
If this was a naturally aspirated class, I could see the logic of this rule.
However, with the huge blowers on top of these things, I really find it hard to believe smoothing out the intake runners would increase performance.
And as much as I can't stand Stevie Torrence, good on his team for loaning Tasca a manifold that meet specs.

The media blasting was on the OUTSIDE of the intake, and had ZERO effect on performance !! He borrowed an intake, and went even faster !!

This explains why Tasca made the remark about a manifold that's a different color being faster.
