Rain disrupts opening day of WorldSBK Jerez test Wednesday, 20 January 2021 Wet weather meant only WorldSSP rookie Leonardo Taccini took to the track at Jerez as teams and riders opted to sit out day one. Two days of testing at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto got underway today with inclement weather stopping any meaningful running across the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship paddock with only Leonardo Taccini (ORELAC Racing VerdNatura) taking to the track as the 18-year-old rookie got to grips with his Kawasaki ZX-6R for the first time as he prepares for his first WorldSSP campaign. Rain had been forecast and it proved to be correct as the weather disrupted the day from when the pit lane opened until the end of the day with Taccini taking to the track to complete 20 laps throughout the day. His best time was a 2’08.042s as he got to grips with his new machine in difficult conditions; improving his time constantly throughout the day. WorldSBK riders were present on day one but decided to not take to the track given the tricky conditions, as well as due to limited testing days available. Team HRC, Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK and ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati were all present at the test with various new parts to try out but stayed in their respective garages all day due to the weather. Leon Camier’s first time at the track as Team HRC’s Team Manager was dampened by the rain as riders Alvaro Bautista and Leon Haslam stayed in the garage despite a lot of working going into the HONDA CBR1000RR-R over the winter. Honda will be hoping to build on a strong comeback year in 2020 after taking one podium; looking to get back onto the top step of the rostrum. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) would have continued to test the brand-new Kawasaki ZX-10RR including work on the new engine as well as the balance with the new aerodynamic package while teammate Lowes aiming to make a final plan for testing throughout March, while also hoping to test a new swingarm as well as some electronic changes. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) would be looing to get acquainted with his new team as he makes the switch to the Ducati factory team for 2021 while teammate Scott Redding continues in his second season for the team after mounting a title challenge in his rookie season. It is scheduled to be a busy test for teams running Ducati machinery as Barni Racing Team and Tito Rabat get to know each other as Rabat prepares for his WorldSBK debut while Chaz Davies switches to Team GOELEVEN; Davies was due to run two bikes throughout the test as a comparison between his winning machine from Estoril as well as a slightly modified bike. WorldSBK rookie Loris Cresson (OUTDO Kawasaki TPR) was hoping to ride his new Kawasaki machine in wet conditions for the first time but ultimately stayed in the pits all day; with Cresson planning on riding the same machine he ended last season on. Fellow rookie Isaac Viñales (ORELAC Racing VerdNatura) was also due to go out on the 2020 Kawasaki as he makes the step up from WorldSSP to WorldSBK.

Difficult track conditions restrict running again at Jerez Thursday, 21 January 2021 Yesterday’s rain passed but difficult track conditions stopped teams and riders taking to the track for the second day of testing at Jerez The weather once again caused havoc with the scheduled two-day test at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto as a wet track from yesterday’s rain stopped the majority of the teams and riders present going out on track. Like the opening day, the only rider to head out was FIM Supersport World Championship rookie Leonardo Taccini with the Italian continuing to get up to speed with his new machine for the 2021 season. 18-year-old Taccini is making his debut in WorldSSP for 2021 as he looks to challenge for the WorldSSP Challenge title with ORELAC Racing VerdNatura. Taccini added to his 20 laps from day one with another 23 laps on the second day and also improved his best time again as he posted a 2’01.940s; finding around seven seconds as conditions improved and he got familiar with the Kawasaki ZX-6R. The conditions prevented Team HRC’s Leon Haslam and Alvaro Bautista from taking to the track with the team already confirming they would return to the Andalusian track next week (January 27-28) where they hope to fully exploit the test days; a new rule brought in for 2021 limits riders to ten days of private testing – not including Official or Supported tests. It meant all WorldSBK riders stayed in their garage for the duration of the test. Team HRC had been hoping to confirm the work completed over the winter but this will now have to wait until the next test session. Reigning Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and teammate Alex Lowes were scheduled to be out on track as well with their brand-new Kawasaki ZX-10RR as both riders and KRT continued the development of the new engine ahead of the 2021 season, as well as a new aerodynamic package. KRT will also be back at Jerez on January 28 to try and reconfirm some elements as well as try new parts. The ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati team were the other factory team present in Jerez but, like both Team HRC and KRT, opted to stay in their garage with Scott Redding and Michael Ruben Rinaldi; with Redding travelling from California to make the two-day test. The team claimed the 2020 teams’ Championship with the Ducati Panigale V4 R and will be looking to mount another title challenge with Redding and Rinaldi. It proved to be a difficult two days for WorldSBK rookies too as they were unable to test their machines for the first time in wet conditions. Isaac Viñales (ORELAC Racing VerdNatura), who had been looking to get on the 2020 Kawasaki ZX-10RR, Loris Cresson (OUTDO Kawasaki TPR) and Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team) were all hoping to get some all-important mileage under their belt. It was a similar story for WorldSBK veteran Chaz Davies (Team GOELEVEN) as he looked to get acquainted with his new team across the test. The Welshman would have been testing the bike he won with at Estoril at the end of the 2020 season as well as a slightly modified one for Ducati, but instead had to stay in the pit area and garage across both days.

WorldSBK rookie Tito Rabat, WorldSSP debutant Dominique Aegerter and 2018 WorldSSP300 Champion Ana Carrasco join MotoGP™ stars for a one-day test in Spain.
More riders took to the track at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as preperations for the 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season stepped up another gear. 2014 Moto2™ World Champion Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team) joined a host of his former MotoGP™ colleagues at the track while WorldSSP rookie Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) and 2018 WorldSSP300 Champion Ana Carrasco (Kawasaki Provec WorldSSP300) returning to track action on the new layout of the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit.
During the winter, the track revised the famous Turn 10 corner for both cars and bikes to make it a longer, sweeping left-hander similar to the original layout of the circuit while also increasing the safety of the track at Turn 10. It means Rabat, Carrasco and Aegerter are the first three riders from within the WorldSBK paddock to try out the new layout.
For Carrasco, it was her first time on her Kawasaki Ninja 400 since a crash at Estoril while testing left her requiring surgery on a back injury. An important milestone for Carrasco in her recovery, she was able to complete numerous laps on her return to track action for the first time in five months.
Swiss rider Aegerter was getting his first taste of World Supersport action as he completed some testing with Ten Kate Racing ahead of his rookie campaign. Moto2™ and MotoE™ race winner Aegerter will compete on a Yamaha YZF-R6 in the 2021 season and will be aiming to mount a title challenge in his rookie season.
Rabat was able to reunite with some of his colleagues from his MotoGP™ days as he continued to get up to speed ahead of his rookie WorldSBK campaign in 2021, where he will compete on a Ducati Panigale V4 R for the Barni Racing Team. The Spanish rider is making the switch from MotoGP™ after five years in Grand Prix racing to WorldSBK as he looks to get back on the rostrum and take race victories.

Razgatlioglu on top after day one at Misano as rookie Bassani impresses Monday, 15 March 2021 Toprak Razgatlioglu topped the timesheets on the first of days of testing at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” More laps and more mileage was the order of the day at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” as riders from up and down the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship continued testing in Italy along with counterparts from the FIM Supersport World Championship, with Red Flags in the afternoon session interrupting running while the top three all lapped faster than the race lap record at Misano. After going fastest in the morning session, Toprak Razgatlioglu (PATA Yamaha WorldSBK Team) continued his form throughout the afternoon as he posted a 1’34.265s, faster than the race lap record from Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) when he set a 1’34.720s in Race 2 in 2015, as he continued to focus on turning and stopping his Yamaha YZF R1, including new components on his machine. Teammate Andrea Locatelli continued to his customisation to his new surroundings and new team with the reigning WorldSSP Champion completing 76 laps, five more than Razgatlioglu, posting a best time of 1’35.605 and going fifth overall. Scott Redding (Aruba. It Racing – Ducati) was setting lap times close to the race lap record throughout the afternoon session, posting a 1’34.265s as he focussed on confirming new components on his Ducati Panigale V4 R as well as checking details on the machine. Redding was joined by Ducati’s new factory rider, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, with the young Italian looking to continue working with his new team. Rinaldi posted a time of 1’34.609, a tenth away from his teammate as he completed 61 laps with Redding adding a further 77 to Ducati’s total, with both riders under Rea’s record. Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) finished the standings in fourth place after completing 68 laps throughout the day as the youngest rider on the grid impressed with a 1’35.076s. Independent teams were also at the testing with satellite Yamaha team GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team at Misano with American star Garrett Gerloff and rookie Kohta Nozane. Nozane’s machine was the cause of a Red Flag during the day when his bike came to a stop at Turn 10. Despite this setback, the reigning Japanese superbike champion was able to complete 57 laps with a best time of 1’36.523s. For Gerloff, this test was a chance to continue building on a sensational rookie season where he claimed three podiums with the American posting a best lap of 1’35.253 after completing 34 laps. Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) took to the track with his team following his move from WorldSSP to WorldSBK with the same team, as the Frenchman looks to embark on a full WorldSBK campaign for the first time. Using the 2020 Kawasaki ZX-10RR, Mahias completed 46 laps with a best time of a 1’35.849s. Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport – Yamaha) continued to get used to his new Yamaha machine with 57 laps across the day, setting a best time of 1’36.978s. All three Ducati satellite teams were present with Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team), and Michele Pirro (Team GoEleven) joining Motocorsa Racing’s Bassani on track. Rabat’s best time was a 1’35.680s, completing 93 laps, as he continues to adjust to WorldSBK following his switch from MotoGP™, while Pirro, standing in for Chaz Davies after the Welshman tested positive for Covid-19, was helping GoEleven continue their testing programme and completed 11 laps during the day. In WorldSSP, four riders took to the track with Kawasaki Puccetti Racing duo Philipp Oettl and Can Öncü joining EAB Racing’s Randy Krummenacher and Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team). Oettl ended the day fastest out of the WorldSSP riders with a 1’38.081s, after completing 38 laps. Odendaal completed the most laps out of the four World Supersport riders with 62 despite a crash at Turn 6 in the latter stages of the session, with the South African rider okay afterwards. Krummenacher posted a time of 1’38.78s to go third in the WorldSSP standings with Öncü just two tenths behind him. The WorldSBK order following day one of testing at Misano 1.) Toprak Razgatlioglu (PATA Yamaha WorldSBK Team) 1’34.265s, 71 laps 2.) Scott Redding (Aruba. It Racing – Ducati) 1’34.478s, 77 laps 3.) Rinaldi vs Razgatlioglu: Italian star hits lap record pace as Day 2 at Misano ignites Tuesday, 16 March 2021 After a thrilling two-day test welcomed new items and new looks for some riders, lap record pace was the call of the day as Michael Ruben Rinaldi dethroned Toprak Razgatlioglu… The Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” continued to host the final portion of day two testing for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, as a variety of teams continued their preparations for a titanic tussle in the year ahead. Having led the way for more or less the whole time, Toprak Razgatlioglu (PATA Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was displaced at the top by Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in the final two hours of the test, as the Italian star hit lap record pace to take the advantage away from Yamaha. Over at the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati squad, Michael Ruben Rinaldi was using the new front brake calipers and he cemented his feelings in the final hours of the test by rocketing to the top, right on Tom Sykes’ Superpole lap record (1'33.640). Rinaldi had a crash in the afternoon at Turn 8 but was uninjured. Scott Redding continued getting a feeling for his machine after trying out the new front brake calipers. Feeling like he can bring more to the table if he was to ride a bike that isn’t always evolving so that he is able to make a step within himself, Redding completed 64 laps at Misano, continuing to make progress on his way to fourth. Aiming at improving the stopping and turning of his YZF-R1, Razgatlioglu and crew chief Phil Marron got to work on the feeling between rider and machine and making the improvements on one of Toprak’s biggest problems in 2020. Using the new Brembo front brake caliper once again – having used it at Jerez in November last year – as well as a new air-intake designed to increase speed and reduce lift and with the upgraded 2021 engine, Toprak was able to finish second. Teammate Andrea Locatelli was likewise impressive as he continued to get vital laps under his belt on a bike that is more or less new to him, even in regard to the November test at Jerez, to conclude the test in fifth and with good sensations moving forward. Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) and Japanese rookie teammate Kohta Nozane were working on finding new base settings for their season ahead. For Gerloff, his aim was to get back into the rhythm of things and to get accustomed to the 2021 Yamaha, having been on the 2019 version last year. It was a strong second day, with Gerloff running inside the top three throughout and even leading at one point before finishing third at the flag. With Nozane, who is fresh from MotoGP™ testing, he aims to continue to adapt to Pirelli rubber as well as the team surrounding him, with the hopes from the team being that he is at the sharp end by the end of the season. He finished eighth at the end of the day, scalping Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team) who was ninth. The Kawasaki effort was solely resting on Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing), with him graduating up from the Puccetti Kawasaki WorldSSP team to enjoy a first full year in WorldSBK. With 2020 ZX-10RR equipment but with 2021 parts to put through their paces, Mahias was around a second off the pace in the closing hours and finished a hard-earned sixth overall. At the Motocorsa Racing Ducati Panigale V4 R set-up, Axel Bassani continued to impress quietly and steadily, as he continued to get up to speed in consistent weather conditions. Testing the 2020 bike on day one before switching to the 2021 machine for day two, Bassani has had to adapt his riding style slightly between the two. He was happy with his work but will be focusing on working in the braking areas. For Tito Rabat, he continued to get used to WorldSBK machinery and put in over 100 laps. The Spanish rookie clocked the greatest number of laps out of anyone at the test on day two and will hope to put all of the data acquired into good practice in their upcoming tests, in order for Tito to bridge the gap to the leading group. At the Alstare Yamaha set-up, Christophe Ponsson had a difficult day after suffering a big crash towards the end of the morning session. Come the end of play on the second day, Ponsson was tenth. In WorldSSP, Philipp Oettl (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was the best rider on track, marginally ahead of South Africa’s Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team). Oettl has an all-new Kawasaki ZX-6R and was looking at working on suspension feeling, whilst Odendaal is bedding himself in with the reigning Champions, as they work together on finding a bike that suits his riding style. Randy Krummenacher (EAB Racing Team) was third overall and continues to readapt to Yamaha machinery after a year off it in 2020; the Swiss rider set 67 laps, more than anyone in WorldSSP. Can Öncü (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) completed WorldSSP running in fourth after a crash in the morning, although he was able to get back on track as he gels with the new squad. 1 Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) 1’33.688, 59 laps 2.) Toprak Razgatlioglu (PATA Yamaha WorldSBK Team) 1’33.886, 69 laps 3.) Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) 1’34.013, 67 laps 4.) Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) 1’34.361, 64 laps 5.) Andrea Locatelli (PATA Yamaha WorldSBK Team) 1.34.794, 69 laps 6.) Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) 1’34.806, 58 laps 7.) Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) 1’34.847, 57 laps 8.) Kohta Nozane (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) 1’35.003, 60 laps 9.) Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team) 1’35.210, 106 laps 10.) Christophe Ponsson (Alstare Yamaha) 1’36.392, 27 laps

Five manufacturers in the top five, Rea fastest on day one of Barcelona test Wednesday, 31 March 2021 Reigning Champion Jonathan Rea topped the times on day one as all five manufacturers finished inside the top five in a closely fought day in Barcelona It was left late to go top of the times in day one of the Supported Test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on the first day of action for MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship machines but with around an hour left of the session, six-time Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) stormed to the top of the timesheets to take day one honours. It had been a quiet start for Rea as he found himself in the middle of the timesheets but slowly worked his way up the order, culminating with the Northern Irishman topping the day. Rea had spent the day confirming items on the chassis as well as front forks from Showa on his brand-new 2021 ZX-10RR, but posted a time of 1’40.793s to go fastest as he completed 68 laps, lapping almost one second faster than the 2020 Tissot Superpole fastest time, albeit on a revised layout. Rea finished ahead of Leon Haslam (Team HRC) with the Honda rider trying new exhaust systems on his CBR1000 RR-R, as well as running with a torque sensor on his bike, with Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) running them close. Gerloff had gone top of the session with around an hour to go but found himself usurped by Rea and Haslam in the latter stages. The American had focussed on longer runs as well as trying a new fairing and brakes on his YZF R1. Scott Redding (Aruba. It Racing – Ducati) had topped the times throughout most of the day with the British rider trying new items around the seat area of his Ducati Panigale V4 R, but finished the day in fourth place, less than two tenths off the pace. He was joined inside the top ten by teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi with the Italian taking eighth in the classification. The brand-new BMW M 1000 RR immediately showed its potential as Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and Jonas Folger (Bonovo MGM Racing) finished fifth and seventh respectively, with Sykes’ BMW teammate, Michael van der Mark, 13th for his new team. BMW had brought a new swingarm, exhaust and winglets to the test as well as durability improvements to the electronics packages. It was an eventful day for Folger who lost crucial track time after a crash around two hours into the session, but he was able to return to the track with a couple of hours left. Turkish star Toprak Razgatlioglu (PATA Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) finished in sixth for the day as he focussed on refining the package he has with the Yamaha YZF R1, with small details to work on. Teammate Andrea Locatelli, who was focusing on race simulations with the aim of doing one full race simulation per day to continue his evolution from WorldSSP into WorldSBK; Locatelli completing the most laps of anybody with 93. Making his debut on track with his new team, Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) completed 65 laps as he posted the ninth best time, almost matching Rinaldi’s time during the day, with very few new parts on the bike for Davies. The Welshman was using this test to get back up to speed after not riding a bike on track for around five months. Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC) was 11th for the day, also trying a new exhaust system on his bike, but after the day admitted he was not at 100% following a small motocross accident last week. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was in 12th place as his recovery from a shoulder injury continues, as he completed 81 laps during the day as looked to confirm items he had tested at Jerez and Aragon in previous tests, including trying the new Brembo callipers. Rookie Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) finished in 14th place with the Ducati Panigale V4 R trying a new exhaust system, while Japanese rookie Kohta Nozane (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was 15th as he continues to gear up for his maiden WorldSBK campaign. Tito Rabat’s (Barni Racing Team) session was ended over an hour early with the Spanish rider in 15th place; the team still searching for a base setup for the 2014 Moto2™ World Champion. Isaac Viñales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) got his hands on the 2021 Kawasaki ZX-10RR as he tested both the 2020 and 2021 models which features big electronic and engine changes. Christophe Ponsson (Alstare Yamaha) finished in 18th place with his team having undergone a restructure over the past few weeks, while new MIE Racing Honda Team signing Leandro Mercado was 19th on his debut for the team. Samuele Cavaliere (TPR Team Pedercini Racing) rounded out the 20-strong field as the Italian focussed on race simulations and long runs to get up to speed on Kawasaki machinery.

Gerloff vs Rea for day two morning honours in Catalunya Thursday, 1 April 2021 Up-and-coming American star Garrett Gerloff edged reigning Champion Jonathan Rea in the morning session by just 0.012s After all five manufacturers were represented in the top five positions in yesterday’s order at the end of the day, the morning session on day two provided similar levels of competitiveness as Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) went head-to-head to set the fastest time of the morning session, with Gerloff just coming out on top. Gerloff scored the first podium of his MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2020 and showed strong pace to finish in the top three on the opening day of testing, repeating that pace in the morning on day two as he focused on the base setting of his Yamaha YZF R1, although the American did have a crash in the morning at Turn 7 but was able to continue. For Rea, he had more small items on his Kawasaki ZX-10RR as he looks to refine the package ahead of the new campaign after ending day one on top; both Gerloff and Rea the only riders to lap in the 1’40s bracket. Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) put the BMW M 1000 RR into the top three during the morning while he focused on setup while they still had “fundamental work” to do on the bike, with teammate Michael van der Mark in 11th place. Scott Redding (Aruba. It Racing – Ducati) finished in fourth place, less than four tenths off Gerloff’s best time, with teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi in seventh, two tenths away from Redding. Rea’s teammate Alex Lowes finished in the top five as he recovers from an injury sustained a couple of months ago that forced him to miss a KRT test at Portimao, with Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) completing the top six, with the reigning WorldSSP Champion having an issue in the entry to the pitlane with just over an hour gone in the day. Teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu completed just six laps in the morning session, with the team hoping to verify some information collected at Misano, also trying the new fairing and brakes. Team GoEleven’s Chaz Davies was just over half-a-second away from Gerloff’s time after getting on his Ducati Panigale V4 R for the first time in 2021 yesterday, finishing around a tenth-and-a-half ahead of Jonas Folger (Bonovo MGM Action) with the German getting into the finer details of his M 1000 RR with a big list of settings to get through during testing, as well as new electronics systems. Leon Haslam (Team HRC) claimed a top ten spot for Honda as the team tried to perfect the seat position for both riders, although Alvaro Bautista’s test came to a premature end following his admission he was not feeling 100% after a motocross accident recently, completing just six laps. The team also have a new exhaust system for both riders, designed to be as ergonomic as possible with the riders as well as an engine upgrade. Italian rider Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) claimed 13th place with the team planning on some time attack runs as the qualifying tyre is new for the youngest rider on the grid. 2014 Moto2™ World Champion Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team) was 15th, just 0.001s away from Bautista’s best time of the day but three tenths clear of Kohta Nozane (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team). Viñales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) finished the morning in 17th place out of 20 riders after getting on the 2021 ZX-10RR for the first time yesterday, finishing six tenths clear of Christophe Ponsson (Alstare Yamaha). Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team), who was only announced on Tuesday morning, was 19th for the morning with Sameule Cavalieri (TPR Team Pedercini Racing) in 20th place. The top six as of 2:00pm Local Time: Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) 1’40.790s, 38 laps Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) +0.012s, 25 laps Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) +0.211s, 34 laps Scott Redding (Aruba. It Racing – Ducati) +0.386s, 40 laps Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) +0.405s, 44 laps Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) +0.468s, 39 laps

Czech Round returns to WorldSBK in 2021, Australian Round set to return in 2022 Thursday, 29 April 2021 The Autodrom Most will make its debut on the WorldSBK calendar in 2021 after signing a five-year agreement, while the Australian Round is set to return in 2022. The FIM, the Autodrom Most and Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO) are delighted to announce a new agreement that will see the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship race in Czech Republic from 2021. The five-year agreement means the Czech Round will be included in the WorldSBK Calendar until 2025 with the announcement made at a presentation in Prague on Thursday 29th of April. The Autodrom Most will host the Czech Round for the first time as it joins the WorldSBK calendar with the Czech circuit hosting the sixth Round of the 2021 season from the 6th to the 8th of August. All three classes as well as the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup will compete at the Autodrom Most, which includes two Czech riders in WorldSSP300 with Petr Svoboda and Oliver König as well as the Jakub Smrz-run Accolade Smrz Racing team. Located near Prague, the Autodrom Most was opened in 1983 and was then the first permanent motor racing complex in what was then known as Czechoslovakia. The circuit has already hosted many motorsport events including national motorcycle championships and will be a new, exciting addition to WorldSBK in 2021, while the Championship venue fits within the circuit's commitment to be part of the sports, social and cultural life of the region. The event will also be broadcast live on Czech channel Nova Sport, following a five-year agreement with DWO. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and resulting regulations, the FIM, Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and DWO have agreed there will be no 2021 edition of the Australian Round. We will now work for a return to the iconic venue in 2022 in the most successful way as the first event of the 2022 Championship. Josef Zajicek, Autodrom Most Chief Executive Officer: “This is a milestone and a unique event during Autodrom’s history of almost 40 years. We are becoming organisers of World Championship races for the first time. This fact places demanding technical and organisational requirements on us. Nevertheless, we are happy to take up this challenge. Our objective is to open our complex to the general public, which is why we have to offer the best-quality events possible to our racing fans. And the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship indisputably belongs to such events. We will make sure that the riders, teams, partners, sponsors as well as spectators may be absolutely satisfied with us and look forward to the next edition of this fantastic display of powerful machines and brave riders.” David Bennett, Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, General Manager: “Phillip Island has hosted more World Superbike events than any other circuit in the world. We agree that now is the time to focus our efforts on the official test and season opening round in 2022. The decision not to run a round in 2021 will not adversely impact the continuation of the event. The event is secured for the Phillip Island Circuit until 2027.” Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director: “We are thrilled to welcome the Autodrom Most to our calendar for the next five seasons. Today’s announcement that WorldSBK is set to return to the Czech Republic for the first time since 2018 reflects the continuing popularity of the Championship among the Czech fans. With Czech teams and riders within the paddock, this is a great opportunity to showcase the Czech Republic on a world stage and I trust the Autodrom Most will be hosting exciting events in the future. Regarding Australia, all parties involved decided that analysing the latest changes in all major motorsport events and with the current uncertainty related to the pandemic, the best solution was to move the Round to our usual start-of-the-season date in 2022. We look forward to returning there in 2022 with the Australian Round a key event of the Championship.” With the 2021 season set to begin in less than a month, the FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization are constantly working with Government Officials and Circuits in order to continue putting everyone’s safety first. Any further updates to the 2021 WorldSBK calendar will be communicated accordingly.
